Does anyone know of a good freeware word processing program with a built in thesaurus? I got really used to MS Word when I had XP but it wasn't included with this new PC so I was fucked. I've been using AbiWord in the meantime but it doesn't seem to have a built in thesaurus (unless I'm just too stupid to find it) and it bugs the living shit out of me to have to stop whatever I'm writing and go hunting for words.

Open office is very popular. It's free and has a built in thesaurus.

Thanks. Just downloaded it. All set. I've heard of that program. Just wasn't aware that it was free.

Great. I think you will find it can open your old Word documents too, if you need them.

On a related note, you might be interested in portable computing. Carry your favorite applications on a USB flash drive so you are never without your critical apps even if you are using a "strange" computer. There is a portable version of OpenOffice. I use FireFox portable on the public library computer.
See http://portableapps.com/ for more details.
Many apps available, all open source, all freeware
