Okay, I just had to say this.
Right now I am installing a game called Viva Piniata. I chose English. It is on 2 DVD's and claims to be 10 gigs.
I was just watching the install and know why it is 10 gigs, it is installing all the fucking language files. Not just the localized ones. I have friggin Dutch language and shit over here.
Fuck You Microsoft!

On the bright side I am glad they now ship games in nice boxes instead of shitty paper sleeves in a huge cardboard box. Thanks for changing that up.

Does it have a custom installation option? Sometimes you can opt out of the additional languages. I used to just express install everything but got tired of finding all kinds of crap I didn't need (or want) on my system. And why the hell does everything want to install that Google Toolbar now? And I mean everything. Even the latest version of Irfanview asks to install Google software. But at least it asks and doesn't just assume you want it.
What I hate is with Vista, you can't even uninstall WMP. It's part of the OS. It's just......there.
But.......I dunno if language packs would be responsible for that much extra bloat. Aren't text files usually pretty small? 10 gigs is a LOT of room for something like a game to be consuming. I looked it up and it looks like a relatively simple game. I can't believe it would be so large.

Nope. I looked at a few forums. If I rename a few files I can play in almost any language I like without installiing any new voice filed. Because I already have them.
I was wondering why the game came on 2 DVDs.......

The languages are spoken.
Once you get past the kiddy look the game rocks, I had dreams about it (this is the cover for the x box but I have it for pc)

And so much of the stuff is blown on Cinematics, which I invariably skip through unless it's essential. A lot of game-makers appear to be film-school washouts.

That reminds me - I heard on NPR that Jerry Bruckheimer is getting into games production now.
Funny thing, games production. I had some friends who were very talented, had some funding, published some comic books, did some other commercial work, went to Hollywood, the whole nine yards, but preferred fucking around and doing drugs and dicking off or being stupid rather than getting actual work done. Only one of them ever achieved any measure of success (and he was wildly successful compared to the rest of us), and he spent 12-18 hours per day actually working. He only bought pot to placate his friends when they hung out. I keep a monogrammed Zippo he gave me for Christmas one year before he got rich and moved away to remind me that it can be done.
No real point. Just an observation.

Some games are nothing without seeing the cinematics. Take Lucas Arts shooter "Armed and Dangerous". Sure the game is fun is you just do the running around parts, but it is down right piss-your-pants funny if you watch the cut scenes.
I guess it's hit-or-miss
