This is in answer to the following thread:

Ass Collector tech problem

Thanks to Mike Lyons, who sent his DVD player to me, I was able to test all of our DVDs that have been having problems (and a few that haven't) on his RCA player.

Turns out that ALL of the DVDs that pixelated on his player were from the same replication company, and all of the discs that didn't pixelate were from other replication companies.
Needless to say, other than 3 titles which were already in the replication stage, we will no longer be using that replication company.

Thanks to all of you at ADT and especially to Mike for the info and the help.

And I'm sure that (based on his review) Mike Lyons is praying that Fashionista's is not one of those 3 titles.

Which RCA dvd player did ML have? I too have an RCA dvd player and it has problems with many EA and dvd9 format dvds. My new dvd player can play these dvds so I have not bothered with my old dvd player.

If I wasn't about to have a nervous breakdown, I'd find that really funny...

... just kidding.

At any rate, no, Fashionistas is just finishing authoring, so it will not be going to that replication company.

RonK - I don't see a common model name on the front of the player, but on the back, it says RC5231Z. It is a player that also plays Divx.

This is awesome that I now have this player added into our QC lineup, as we were looking for a player that was ultra-sensitive to technical glitches, but played good discs fine.

having the Divx capability would probably make it a somewhat older player, yes? Ah, Divx and my memories of deep hatred for Circuit City come bubbling to the surface...

I still won't buy anything from Circuit City due to their attempt to singlehandedly destroy the DVD format.

I actually still avoid Zenith and RCA products (when I have a choice) due to the fact that they caved in to Circuit City and initially produced nothing but Divx "enhanced" players.

Luckily, I was able to get in touch with Mike Lyons right before he left on his trip, and he was able to pack up his player before he left to send to me.

If I had waited 1 day to email him, it would have been next week before I could have received the player and used it to help diagnose the problem.

Mike told me something about it was a "final f-you to Circuit City and Divx to buy the player after Divx failed and was useless."

Tricia,

I too have an RCA with Divx and I got the rebate after divx went the way of the dinosaur. No wonder why I had problems playing many EA dvds together with dvds from several other companies. It sometimes does not synch well with the databits and then pixelate. It is weird and an intermittent thing. By playing with the fast forward or slow mo, I can get it to resynch but sometimes without sound.

I often had problems toward the end of the dvd where the data stream is much more or when the sides change. In fact, my SONY often stops for a couple of seconds when the information transitions from one layer to the next.

I just checked the model number of my RCA dvd player, and guess what, it is RC 5231Z. This is the exact same model as ML's with the DIVX feature enabled. Some of these RCA dvd sold after divx went the way of the dinosaurs had that feature disabled. Mine was from the pre-dinosaur days of divx, but just before extinction.

Anyone wants to buy a dinosaur dvd player that cannot play many dvds from our favorite studio, namely EA, as well as junk dvd from the likes of nameless companies? It might become a collector's item in 20 years time. Going going cheap -- just a couple of hundred green ones or more . Just joking as Steph will kill me if I tried to sell used dvd players on the main forum instead of ebay .

No wonder I had problems with many EA videos as I have posted in some ancient threads. My new SONY will play anything including SACD, but it spins and makes a noisy whirling sound with some dvds before deciding to play them.

Just for your info, my player is a Panasonic A160EC, old generation (2/3 years ago), but still pretty performant.
"Ass Collector" is the only title, porn and mainstream, that plays with all that heavy pixillation.

FYI!

Received my copy of ass collector in the UK today. I played it on the dvd drive of my pc (Samsung SD-606) and playback froze and crashed my computer every time I played the disk with no particular chapter. My pc dvd-rom drive plays all of my other 24 Evil Angel titles without problems.

I also tried it on my Cyberhome ADL-528 stand alone dvd player and it played back without problems. This is a shame as I watch most of my adult titles on my pc dvd player and the parts of ass collector that I have been able to see look fantastic!!!!!!!

Hope this info is of help!

Ass Collector is one of the few Evil Angel titles that my JVC can play. It couldn't play Service Animals 6, Nacho: Latin Psycho 2 or Rocco's Initiations 4.
For notation, it's an older XV-511.

Beeone,

DivX the multimedia file codec alternative to MPEG, and DIVX the evil Circuit City / lawyer spawned, horrifically restrictive DVD format are two completely different things. DivX the codec is alive and well. DIVX the slap in the face to DVD consumers is completely dead as far as I know--unless they've taken root outside the United States somewhere and I don't know about it. I seriously doubt that it has though.

Uhhhg... just THINKING about it now makes me quiver with anger for Circuit City. I was so angry when it first came out that I was practically campaigning against it--telling these idiot Circuit City salesmen to call it what it was--a total rip off.

I bought my DIVX player after it had been severely discounted because DIVX was dead--it was my version of a slap in the face to Circuit City and RCA--and I made sure they knew it.

Practically ??? I actually got kicked out of a Circuit City for having a conversation with an older couple who was buying a Divx player (they were actually waiting for one to be brought out). They had no idea that they were paying $50 more for the Divx "feature" than for the corresponding "non-bastardized" DVD player. They didn't even know what Divx was. When I described what it did, they said that they didn't want to be able to do that. They just wanted to be able to rent or buy a movie and watch it.

When they told the salesgirl that they didn't want the Divx player, they wanted the DVD player that was $50 cheaper, they called the manager and security to have me escorted out of the store.

There's a pretty good website that came out of the Divx fight called fightdivx.com. After Divx died, this website turned into a pretty good place for finding coupons & deals for all kinds of Internet stores.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was indeed talking about DivX the codec...never even heard of the other DIVX and I'm from Europe.

I hated CC when it started the program. Glad it died.
