The name given to a member of this class of men was ephebos (see this 1911 encyclopedia article for a description of the evolution of this process, but BEWARE of pop-ups). The modern-day word "ephebe" is derived from the word ephebos . In its strictest sense, "ephebe" refers to a male 18 or 19 years old. However, it can also apply to any male who has just "reached puberty," regardless of age. For purposes of this thread, the word "ephebe" refers to guys who are of "college age" or "draft eligible," i.e., those aged 18 to 21. The genre of gay porn revolving around the "ephebe" is significant. I think there are two reasons for this: (1) our tendency to equate youth and beauty (which I don't necessarily subscribe to), and (2) the reminder of our own youth, filled with experimentation fueled by energy, enthusiasm, and an endless amount of time. He is listed as 6' or 6'1" and about 160 lbs, and has brown hair and blue-green eyes. By his own admission he was a shy, kinda-nerdy teen who liked baseball. After graduating from high school, he started exploring his sexuality, and, like many of his contemporaries, was introduced to porn producers via the internet. He and his cohorts border on the androgynous twink category - not really my cup of tea. My current favorite in the category is probably Julian Armanis, a member of the Bel Ami stable. I prefer guys, even young ones, with a tad more meat on their bones (oops, I made a pun! My bad!) and who have a bit more of an athletic bent. My personal idea of porn fantasy material is more along the lines of some of the Hungarian hunks in their late 20's and early 30's who appear in many of the titles flooding the market from the likes of Csaba Borbely, Herve Handsome and others. (My favorites are the ones who pump a bit less iron than others.) I also like a number of the Hispanic types appearing in material being released by Studio 2000 International and MarcoStudio. I was considering including some Hispanic/Latino models in the Top Men thread, but maybe I'll start a thread dedicated to them. And Julian Armanis...I am patiently awaiting the one remaining title of the Bel Ami backlog to be released (or announced to be released) on DVD: "The English Student" (though one scene is being released on "Cherries," so the DVD version may not end up as originally released on VHS). The scene of him with Nico Tiziani is one of the best Bel Ami scenes of all time. [Link]

I plan to order it as soon as it is released to general online retail outlets. I already own everything Bel Ami has put on DVD thus far (every title listed with the ADT search engine). The next titles out will be Julian, BoyWatch 1 and the Frisky Summer 1: Best Friends / Tender Strangers (solos) 2-disc special edition. That leaves Cherries, CoverBoys, The English Student, and Frisky Summer[s] 2 & 3 to be released sometime in the near future. BoyWatch is to be a series much like the 101 Men series. I haven't heard anything about the 101 Men series being released on DVD, but I suspect that it will arrive in some form eventually. Maybe Duroy will release a special 2-disc set containing the "Best of 101 Men" or something to that effect. A couple of random but related thoughts.... Recently, I saw a (supposedly) current photo of Lukas Ridgeston and he is more handsome now that he was 10+ years ago. He is a knock-out! There really ought to be two different categories of the just-cumming-of-age set: the androgynous twinks (Ashton Ryan, et al) and the somewhat more athletic, more masculine types (Armanis, Ridgeston, Valko, et cetera). ~ GaySatyr [Link]

Justin was born in January 1981 and is from Arkansas, and after graduating from high school he headed out to California to attend college (he aspires to be a lawyer). He never intended to do porn, but after Ashton Ryan, whom he met in a club, introduced him to Kevin Clarke, he decided to "do it just to do it."
