Is it really a gay show? Or is the gayness really really subtle?

| netguy Member  687 Posts 12/99 |  Posted - Apr 9 2001 : 7:51AMNow this was a show! I just subscribed to Showtime-my friend wasn't reliable taping Queer as Folk for me so....anyway, saw an ad for Further Tales of the City....I loved that series! I believe it begins May 6th.
Just when we’d given up hope of seeing Mouse, Mary Ann, and the other residents of 28 Barbary Lane again, Further Tales of the City is set to go into production as a four-hour movie primed for an early 2001 television airdate. “Filming is scheduled to start at the end of May,” confirms Alan Poul, producer of all three miniseries based on Armistead Maupin’s classic San Francisco–novels. Olympia Dukakis is signed on to return as the mystical Anna Madrigal, as are Laura Linney (Mary Ann), Paul Hopkins (Mouse), Barbara Garrick (DeDe), and Billy Campbell (Jon), who’s since become a big star in TV’s Once and Again. Absent is redheaded, red-blooded Mona, who’s also absent from the Further novel—not that such a detail stopped the filmmakers from bringing back “by popular demand” our favorite 70-something Nevada madam. “We added a new subplot that takes Mother Mucca on a mysterious mission to San Francisco,” Poul reveals of the screenplay, which is being cowritten by Maupin and playwright-actor James Lecesne. “I think we’re all so comfortable with the life of the show now that everybody involved felt comfortable taking liberties.” Great—so could Mouse have a one-night affair with a Rock Hudson-like celebrity? It's definitely gay but not as graphic as QAF. But it's really, really well done and like I said before a great storyline. The books are excellent as well. If they were smart it would start as if it was a new series as I'm sure they're aware that some people may not have seen the original. I will stay on top of this.....hey! I like that too but its so in your face and totally far fetched. "Tales" though is more down to earth with a clever story.
