| Diesel Member 516 Posts 3/00 | Congrats on your excellent new title, SHANE'S WORLD 20: Ragin' Rapids. I thought it was a great movie. Any word on when you guys are going to start releasing your older SHANE'S WORLD titles? And what about your library of videos starring Leena? Just interested. | Bill All-Star Member 5334 Posts 6/00 | Unfortunately, I hate the series since Shane stopped appearing in it. A Shane's World movie without Shane is kind of like ordering a steak dinner and only being served the vegetables. |
| Diesel Member 516 Posts 3/00 | BTW, does anyone really, and truly believe that she is still the "director" of the series? That she is behind the camera? I noted in my upcoming review that since we never get to see nor hear from her (and she was always a chatty cathy), I question whether she has anything to do with the creative process of volumes #19 and #20. Does anyone know? Check into DIESEL'S DEN for weekly commentary on Adult DVD Empire. Edited by - Diesel on Mar 18 2001 Edited by - Diesel on Mar 18 2001 |

| Saki At-Large 2087 Posts 11/99 | What I do know is that there was a big hubub last fall about the control of the Shane's World trademarks, which resulted in a lawsuit: As reported in this AVN article and this one, Shane lost control of her series after volume 18 when she got married and had a baby. Her former assistant, Jenny Hinrichs, continued on with Shane's Enterprises, which has released, through OGV, volumes 19 & 20 on DVD, as well as other Shane's World and derivative series on VHS.Shane claims that the series belongs to her, while Shane Enterprises says she granted rights to the series in perpetuity. That's what the civil suit was about. I haven't seen any news items regarding the matter, but the fact that Shane Enterprises is still releasing the post-Shane Shane's World line and Digital Playground hasn't released or announced the older Shane's World volumes, leads me to believe that it's either status quo or Shane Enterprises won. Hope that sheds some light. Personally, I loved Shane as a performer and as a director, and would very much like to see vols. 1-18 released on DVD. But I also like the non-Shane releases too--its nice to see young, fresh performers who are having fun. - Saki |

Jennie of Shane Enterprises has really been knocking herself out putting together great extra materials. Sorry I've been absent for a while. You are certainly not alone in asking when the original Shane's World titles will hit DVD. As stated earlier, the disagreement between Shane and Shane Enterprises is the source of the delay. Before that hit I actually went into production on the first 3 Shane's World titles at the same time we started Shane's World 19. Hopefully we will see a resolution before long. It's really been too bad for everyone. Personally, I'm very fond of both Shane and Jennie. Shane did tell us that she wanted to perform again but I can't guarantee that at the moment. We'll all just have to wait and see. Faron |

You are right up there with Sunshine video putting out bogus Seymore Butts titles. I stopped watchin Shane's World titles after #20 not because I knew Shane was gone (If I knew that I would have dropped them after #18). I just stopped watching them because they sucked. Keep up the good work ripping people off. |

If you can't phrase your argument constructively then take it elsewhere. |
| Diesel Member 516 Posts 3/00 | If Bill was a bit peeved at what could be interpreted as misleading advertising, then from a customer's point of view, I don't blame him (despite his vitriolic response). There was quite a commotion on rec.arts.movies.erotica concerning how the Seymore Butts character is now being assumed by a different persona, and it kind of looks that way here... I had to do a little research and follow Saki's leads (thanks, Saki, by the way!) before I realized that Shane seems to have nothing to do with #19 and #20. This is also why I wondered why she was being credited as "director" (plus the fact that all the actors show off their SHANE'S WORLD baseball caps and that the opening title credits continue to show her face and body). In any event, I still would like to know if Odyssey intends to release their library of LEENA films. This is one classic actress whose titles should be on DVD as soon as possible. | Bill All-Star Member 5334 Posts 6/00 | However, there were 18 "Shane's World" titles, put out by Shane, prior to these new titles. SHANE is the name of a performer. Using that name in the title implies that she has something to do with that title. Let me pose a hypothetical situation. If "Rocco's Initiations #3 (released last week by Evil Angel), had nothing to do with Rocco Siffredi, and you pre-ordered this title because you love everything that Rocco is associated with, would you be disappointed when you received this title and saw that Rocco wasn't in it (but was credited as director on the movie). Would you be disappointed when someone else was trying to do the same type of movie as previous "Rocco's Initiations" titles, but (in your opinion, not nearly as well). You would probably figure that these movies don't work as well when Rocco is only the director, but doesn't actually participate. Now later on you find out that not only was Rocco not in the title, but he wasn't the even the director. Would you feel that you were deceived into buying this title? Now take that a little further, we are not talking about volume 3 (as in my example), we are talking about volume 19. People who had previously bought 18 volumes of Shane's World had the right to assume that SHANE was was involved in volume 19 (and any subsequent volumes) of a title that had her name in the title. She wasn't, and still isn't. Do I feel that I was deceived? Damn right I do. Do I feel that I was stolen from? Yes I do. Does OGV distribute the Shane's World video tapes? Yes they do. Do I feel that they were a part of stealing from me? I certainly do. That having been said, I would like to apologize to Faron for the accusatory tone of my previous post. I appreciate the fact that participates in this forum, and realize that he is probably not the person who actually making the decisions to which I am objecting. | snowman872 RainCoatReviews.com 400 Posts 6/00 | I'm with you on this one Bill. I agree it is totally deceptive to continue on with "Shanes World" if Shane no longer has anything to do with it. Before this thread, I was not aware she was not involved in the latest episodes. If I rented them, I certainly would have expected her to be behind (and on) the camera. I expect Rocco to be in Rocco movies, Buttman to be in Buttman movies, Max Hardcore to be in Max Hardcore movies... and so on and so on. Sure, these people all have a style, but that style is inseparable from and somewhat secondary to the personality. This might be a little bit different if the named person never appeared on camera i.e. - they were only a director. I can imagine directors subsequent to the "name" director imitating a style effectively, but once the "name" person becomes known and participates in the scene, then you need both. Rosebud might be a good example of this. Certainly "Rex Borsky" had a well known style, but he did not appear on camera and had no personality. As a result, I can watch the new Rosebud features and not feel ripped off when Jules Jordan directs. Jules' style is similar but not copycat. On the other hand, when Zane tried to carry on the Max Hardcore line without Max Hardcore, that was ridiculous. Love him or hate him, without Max himself participating in the scene, it's just not the same. Snowman |

| Saki At-Large 2087 Posts 11/99 | Yes, I know they are still distributing SW titles, there is a lot of similarity between pre- and post-Shane, and that there's at least one case where Shane is credited as the director when she wasn't. I'm just saying that somewhere along the line, the production people started making a change in titles. - Saki Edited by - Saki on May 15 2001 |
| jb0911 Member North Hollywood, CA USA 74 Posts 1/00 | I'm glad this got brought back up. When this post was very active the first time through I tried a couple of times to compose a response that would make sense but not interfere with the pending legal case and do no damage to OGV's relationship with either Shane or Shane Enterprises. There's a lot I would like to say but don't feel comfortable with at the moment. I would like to point out one major difference in this situation as compared to all the others being brought up here, ie: Seymore Butts, Max Hardcore, etc. In the case of Seymore Butts and the others a director/performer created a character while in a business relationship with a production company which financed and owned the titles when completed. When the relationship between the director and the company went sour and they parted ways both wanted to retain rights to the character name. The company then continued to use the name over the objections of the creator. In this case Shane started her own company and created the first Shane's World. She brought the product to OGV for marketing and distribution. The relationship never went sour. Shane was in the process of trying to adopt a child and was (I beleive) advised by counsel to distance herself from her own product to avoid possible problems. At Shane's request, OGV happily continued it's relationship with Shane Enterprises. It was many months later that a disput occured between Shane and Shane Enterprises. The moment OGV was informed of the problem our general manager decided that no new product would be released by us bearing Shane's name and Shane Enterprises agreed. The titles released on DVD thus far were made during the period when there was no conflict, with the permission of and at the request of Shane herself and still bear the Shane's World name. There was also no sudden change between volumes 18 & 19. Shane had retired from having sex on camera almost two years prior. Shane's World 18 & 19 were made with the exact same production team and style. The only difference was a few minutes of Shane chatting on camera between sex scenes. Personally, I think Shane's World had stopped being about seeing Shane perform LONG before she decided to keep a lower profile because of the pending adoption. I suppose there may have been some folks who bought the Shane's World titles just to see Shane's face and hear her very charming giggle for a few minutes but the vast majority of the Shane's World fan base has stuck with the line which I can only take as a vote of approval. I have absolutely no qualms about releasing these titles on DVD just as they are presented. They are good porn made by the crew Shane picked, in the style Shane created at Shane's request. When Shane had a problem with it, the line name changed and Shane's name and image were removed. That's about all the info I can give you at the moment because anything further would get too far into the relationship between Shane and Shane Enterprises, and not OGV's role in the matter. |
