I think Chico Wang was the porn film director who had started the current choking, spitting, and slapping fashion in porn. And as far as I know, he started doing this in 2003 in such films as Un-Natural Sex #10.
Which means that to be safe, you should restrict your gang-bang selection to films made before the second half of 2003.
As you may well know, Chico Wang has committed suicide not that long ago, after his partner and a porn star Haley Paige died from a drug overdose. And there were some allegations that Chico Wang had 'pistol whipped her' not long before she died from that drug overdose.
I think this history of choking, spitting, and slapping in mainstream porn is bad for the reputation of porn. But there isn't much you can do about it now, except choose to watch porn films that were made before this fashion had started.
