I have been watching porn for about twenty years now,, and here is what I have come to realize,,,, About 10 or 12 years ago,, a porn girl would be discovered,, do her rounds with all the companies,,, make her features,, and finally do a gangbang when her popularity was over,,,, now they are in the business for six months and voila,, they make a gang bang film,, alot of the girls dont wait anymore,,untill the end of their career do make a gang bang,, they just jump right in at the beginning,,, why do you think that is,,, is it about the money?? a fine example for me is the waif chick Sierra from the early 1990's ..she was so hot and made many movies,, then she finally let herself go,, and the next thing you know,, she was a gangbang girl,,, just a thought if anyone cares to elaborate,,, later on
I don't think Sierra let herself go. In her earliest pro/am stuff she was a bit pudgy. She got implants and gained some weight for sure.
The current mainstream is gonzo, it used to be features. So it used to be that the trend was to go more 'nasty' as one's career was tailing off. Now the idea is to look as extreme as possible as early as possible.

I have no explanation for it. All I know is that I like it.
There are many more studios out there now and, as croy said most are shooting gonzo. There's also much more competition, so I'm sure there's more pressure to do whatever the client wants or risk not being called back.
Having said that, Vanessa Chase did Gangbang Girl 14 in 1994, the same year she entered the business.
Porn has changed. Now it is about the youngest girls doing the wildest things. But I'm not complaining. Nothing better than watching a hot 19 year getting DP'd and stuffed by 5 dudes.
The porn industry definitely has changed since the 90s. For better or worse, if a girl lasts six months + today that may actually be above average. It makes you appreciate the girls that do last longer ( many still post here) - they are rare.
I don't see "gang bangs" as the end-all these days either. Gonzo acts have become far more specific, fetish-oriented than the old general categories (feature, BJ, gangbang). I think thats for the better. You'll more likely see a performer take on 2-3 guys, maybe up to 5, rather than a full fledged gang bang.

Now do you see Wicked and Vivid doing away more and morw with features? I personally like the features, the Gonzo ones are just see one then they are all the same more or less. Doesn't make me want to buy those ones. But the features i always enjoyed. I am wondering with the shift in what the demand is, these bigger studios will release less and less features and will more women not want to do features you think? I don't mind the odd gangbang ones but after seeing gangbang girl 10 and then 20, really not much difference.

Also the number of guys in the gangbang has escalated. I remember the first ones. Debi Diamond and Trixie Tyler. 3 scenes each with about 5 guys in each scene. That was the m.o. for a long time.
With the internet, everyone has a video camera and can make a dvd a girl is looking for the most notoriety as quickly as possible to make a big splash.
Some girls just like the fact that they can get paid fulfilling there fantasy.
You're right... today it's all about just churning out as much porn as you can as fast as you can. Actresses aren't really developed the way they were years ago. It's a shame, a lot of those older flicks have way more heat than the stuff out today.

The idea of doing a gangbang on the way out of porn as opposed to the beginning or middle of a career has always been more of a perception than reality. Tina Tyler, Brigdette Kerkove, Stephanie Swift and many others started their careers in the fast lane. Maybe we get that idea from the fact that Anabolic was king of the gangbangs and the natural progression working for them was to appear in one of the "Nasty" titles first, then do "Up Your Ass", and then get talked into a gangbang. You can hear Chris Alexander lobbying the girls onscreen during their first scenes. Now a performer can go from one gangbang situation to another. From Gangbang Auditions to a 50 Guy Creampie.
I've rarely ever watch a gangbang, so I've never took the time to think about it. But I believe that Arianna Jolle did a gangbang last winter. 65 guy cream pie is what I think it's called. I think she's still in pretty high demand and doin ok.
And it seemed to haunt her in her feature/VCA days. Even in movies where she had the cover, she never had the amount of scenes or movie time that others got. Nor was she pushed as much as her looks & enthusiasm would have suggested. Now the opposite is true. A Keri Sable or Teagan starts in gonzo, doing ATMs, anal cream pie eating, etc. then move to features.
Do you think that was the problem? Maybe Vanessa just didn't fit their mold. Take a look at Cyberanal. You've got a couple of busty blondes on the cover of a vehicle for a petite brunette.
It would be interesting to hear from somebody who was with VCA back in the day.
