Dano mentioned that Jan Dvorak is not really gay, which surprised me. I hear a lot about guys who appear in gay porn for the pay, yet are supposedly straight. This is all too common in straight porn with mandatory so-called lesbian scenes. I hear that it irritates real lesbians to call these gay for pay gals 'lesbians', it's insulting and I can understand why!
It's much easier for a female to fake it in these movies, even though they don't do that very well, but for a guy it's much harder.
Could it be that some of these guys are just SAYING that they're not really gay for some reason? That's just as bad, but it makes more sense to me. Has anyone ever seen Ryan Idol with a woman, for instance? Who is he kidding? I just don't think anyone is that good of an actor, viagra or no viagra. What do you think?
The gay, bisexual and gay-for-pay issue comes up in discussions of gay porn on a regular basis. The arguments for and against are mostly moot.
Americans, bless their holier-than-thou, bigoted, little hearts, insist on placing a definitive label on everyone - the better to discriminate against them, I fear. Other cultures are less vindictive.
Many Latinos consider a guy to be gay if and only if he sucks cock and/or is anally passive - the active participant is not considered to be gay. He's just sewing wild oats, so to speak. It does not matter one iota if he prefers porking men in the ass over women, he's still not gay unless he's the pass recipient. Go figure.
According to my several Hungarian friends, one of whom has been in both gay and straight porn videos, Eastern Europe's take on the issue is you are gay if what you prefer is same sex relationships to the exclusion of opposite sex relationships. You are welcome to play around either way and no one really gives a damn.
To put that another way, the young man from the Czech Republic with whom I work says, "Sex is sex: it is all fun. I like girls. I like guys. But I'm straight - I'm going to get married and have a family."
So, Ryan Idol, Ken Ryker, and Jeff Stryker are gay-for-pay and neither Ryan nor Jeff would give gays the time of day were it not for the money up front, please & thank you very much - never mind that they lie like all hell about just how much money it really is, probably to assuage their guilt. Or maybe it's just so they can keep pretending the gay-for-pay label fits. At least Ken seems appreciative of his gay audience and fans - I don't mind him being gay-for-pay at all.
BTW, Ales Hanak and Max Orloff (one of Jan Dvorak's many noms-de-porn) were an item when they were first videotaped many years ago. And their very first in-porn encounter can be seen in Bel Ami's <iBonbons: Out at Last 2 </i - the scene is a scorcher! Both were considerably younger and less muscular when the Bonbons scene was shot - very much the twinks for which Bel Ami is so famous.
From what I understand, there are quite a few gay-for-pay guys out there. I think a high percentage of those Euro-hunks are gay-for-pay (and it shows). There aren't as many over here, but you can be pretty much assured that whenever their promotor/pimp describes them as "asexual", "all-sexual", or "bi-sexual", those are all code words for "gay-for-pay".
I have actively begun avoiding films with known gay-for-pay stars. I'd rather give my money to honest to goodness gay men, who are actually enjoying having sex.
As far as Ryan Idol goes, he is one screwed up individual. I think it's pretty much accepted that he is as gay-for-pay as it gets. His promoter/pimp has tried a couple times to mount a comeback for him, but his "accidently" falling out of a second story window, multiple findings of God, and all around flakiness has pretty much put a kabash on any comeback. Here's a recent pic from his last attempted comeback.

Sadly, a very large percentage of Americans are bigoted, including a majority of the republican party members (& quite a few democrats as well) and a large majority of those who claim to be christians.
It's a strange, strange world we live in .... (David Marks, Four Jacks & a Jill, 1968)
As mentioned, the Europeans definitely have a different perspective here. If you read the model Q&A's on Kristen Bjorn's website, all the Hungarians except one identify themselves as straight and mention they do gay porn only for the money. The exception is Zsolt Kopazs, who admits to being bi. Many of them express a preference for working in group scenes, probably because the one-on-one scenes may imply a relationship of some sort. I think this attitude is reflected in their work. Although the Hungarian models are the best-looking specimens in gay porn (IMO), there is little passion in their work (some exceptions, of course, especially with KB's work). I get very tired of the snake-kissing and the forced moaning that is so common in their work, but it's not because I know they're not gay. It's just that I expect the sex to be sizzling and unforced no matter what these guys call themselves.
Regarding whether any of these guys are acting, you can't tell whether the tops are genuinely aroused or not. Some of these scenes take hours to film, mostly because it takes a while to get some guys hard. Viagra, straight porn playing on a monitor off camera (Bel Ami does this), and stunting (if all the action is close up, there is probably some faking going on) are all used. Barry Gollop (KB's long-time assistant) says in a recent interview that editing can do amazing things (like those no-hands cumshots KB is famous for).
The bottoms have a more difficult time faking it. But some do get hard while they're bottoming, which I understand many gay men can't even do, but in my mind anyone who does that can't claim to be straight.
An interesting issue, but to answer the question--it depends. I like to see people really enjoying the sex and their partners (whether the porn is gay or str8), so the less I can tell the interaction is forced, the better. If the gay-for-pay guy fools me, I don't care.
I guess I'd attribute getting hard more to the stimulation of the prostate than anything else...not that a lot of them don't genuinley enjoy it, but saying that he must be gay cause he gets hard while getting fucked seems a little stretched to me.
I'm not an expert on human anatomy, but is erection an effect of stimulation of the prostate? I thought erection was more a result of the combination of tactile stimulus of your penis and your state of mind. My personal experience is that prostate stimulus has never caused erection but has resulted in orgasm without erection.
