I just saw a great trailer for Brokeback Mountain. It is the story of two cowboys, two hot cowboys that is, who fall in love while shepherding in the mountains. They love each other, but have to hide it because of society.

This is the kind of movie I have been waiting to see. It encapsulates the idea that gay men have to sacrifice their love in order to look normal.

What do you guys think?

The movie is fantastic and a serious tear-jerker. Ledger deserves an Oscar. (Gyllanhaal is great, too.)

The story, in case you haven't read it, is here.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - The gay cowboy romance "Brokeback Mountain" positioned itself as a key Oscar competitor Tuesday, roping in seven Golden Globe nominations, including best dramatic picture and honors for actor Heath Ledger and director Ang Lee.

TransAmerica looks really good as well with Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives)

The fundies are ramping up a media campaign against Brokeback Mountain as was probably to be expected.

How graphic is the sex scenes? I keep reading they are, and of course this movie hasn't come to our local Lowes theater, although they did have a big poster up.

I consider the sex pretty tame (but then, I watch Titan Media gay porn).

Let's put it this way: were they a male/female couple, the movie would probably have gotten a PG or, morel likely, PG-13 rating.

I saw it, it was one of the best romance movies I have ever seen. I fell in love with Jake Gyllenhaal to be honest.

The sex scenes were sometimes animalistic, but at other times very warm and romantic. There's nothing like it.

It's funny how only certain theathers will carry the movie because it is about two gay men who are in love. We have a long way to go.

I prefer to see the glass as half full. I don't think there is going to be much of a reaction from the far right, at least not a reaction that a lot of people are going to bother to take notice of.

Only certain theaters carry it because I believe it is an indie release and that's the norm.

It's playing at the Landmark in La Jolla which tends to run indie films. I saw it a week 1/2 ago with my girl and thought it was good.

This was posted on IMDb by someone so afraid of being outed, and, yet, so moved by seeing Brokeback Mountain, that he deleted his profile and account immediately after posting:

Moving. If this movie inspires even a few people to love themselves for who they are, whatever their circumstances, it will be a success whatever money it makes.

Hi All,

"Brokeback Mountain" is one of the best movies which I have seen in a very long time. The sex is not very graphic, for it is not a movie primarily about sex, but love and romance, and the tragic forces which keep two people apart. It's a very beautiful ... and tragic movie. I have recommended it to numerous people, and everyone who has seen it has loved it. If you haven't seen it yet, Go See It! It's well-written, beautifully acted and directed--simply a must-see!

P. S. We, also, need as a community to get out there and support movies like this with our wallets. Those who make good movies with positive messages about gay people need to be rewarded.

I'm a straight fan of Heath Ledger..especially in A Knights Tale and The Patriot .

How do they handle the sex? Do they kiss? Do they use gay stunt doubles?

Jake uses a stunt double where he is to jump off a cliff into the river; however, both he and Heath do their own kissing and sex scenes. The sex is SO tame that, were this str8 sex and back in the early '80's, it would probably have been rated 'PG' instead of 'R.'

It was a beautiful love story. At one moment, when Jake Gyllenhaal visits male prostitutes in Mexico, I thought, OMG, please, no AIDS allegory, let him not catch a STD or something. One subject at a time. Thankfully, it remained a love story until the end. A very sad one, of course, but very pure too.

Do you think it was very difficult for these straight actors to kiss? I can't imagine kissing another woman in a sexual way.

I am absolutely amazed that Brokeback Mountain is STILL in the top 10 in terms of its box office receipts. (Not that I don't think it deserves the attention and attendance, mind you; I'm just really surprised at the numbers of people going to see it.)

I would like to see it-but will wait for the DVD. Isn't it usually 6 mo. from theatre to DVD?

Aztec Gold,

I don't think that it was that difficult for the actors to display affection for each other. They're actors and used to getting into characters. Also, actors tend to be a pretty free-spirited bunch. They had to realize, too, that they were in a terrific film, so that probably inspired them to give it their all.

As for your seeing it, you really should go see it on the big screen. There are great scenes of the landscape of the mountains out West which look best in a movie theatre. Also, as I think I posted before, it's a good movie to support.

I am pleased that it scored all the Oscar nominations, and I certainly hope that it wins as many Oscars as possible. Of course, an older female relative of mine, my mom, would disagree with me. Though she liked "Brokeback Mountain," she insists that the actor who deserves the Oscar for best actor is the man who played Truman in "Capote." Sorry, Heath!
