Just wondering how people feel about porn where gimmicks or novelties are used (or overused). I am talking about Dark Bros movies where guys dress in duck suits while having sex, or in Antonio Passolini flicks where costumes and all sorts of satirical references abound (particularly in CAP'N MONGO). Does all that stuff distract from the hardcore?

I remember those 3-D pornies from Wes Brown, like Princess Orgasma and The Legend of the Magic Bad.

...................................
Robin : When you think, Batman, with those 4 supercrooks hangin' around, it's amazing somebody hasn't already reported this place to the police!
Batman : It's a low neighborhood, full of rumpots. They're used to curious sights, which they attribute to alcoholic delusions.
Robin : Gosh, drink is sure a filthy thing, isn't it? I'd rather be dead than unable to trust my own eyes!

Some people actually like that stuff. I can't imagine why anyone would like something like "New Wave Hookers" or "Cafe Flesh" based solely on the wierdness factor, but to each his or her own.

My take on it is that NOTHING can distract from good hardcore. Cheesy plot, men from Mars, even Ron Jeremy can't overshadow great sex. Unfortunately, most of the time, all that these pornos have going for them are gimmicks to distract from the sub-par sex.

Well, I can do without Passolini (though my problems with his work and with Ninn's have my more to do with the self-conscious stiffness of the sex scenes than the costumes or sets) but Rinse Dream and the Dark Bros. represent the apex of porn. I see these things as no more (in fact much less) of a gimmick than, say, making a video like "A Clockwork Orgy" or "Pump Friction" based on, on least nominally, major movies or gonzo, for that matter. There's nothing wrong with gimmickry, it keeps things interesting, keeps the form developing along and if done well, no it won't be distracting (although I can do without such concepts as 90 year old gangbang grannies and Edward Penishands, but that's just me).

As long as the sex is good, I like it. It's something that sets apart some movies from others. That's some of what I love about Passolini. You never know exactly what he's going to come up with next, yet you know it's going to be well done.
