That, in turn, led me to wonder how the girls of the Golden Age stack up all time in terms of number of cocks. Not surprisingly, I suppose, since over the years it has become so much easier and less expensive to produce and distribute porn, and since we don't have to go to seedy "bookstores" or theaters to watch it, the pioneers of porn generally worked with a fairly small number of partners. My starting point was a Wikipedia article on the Golden Age. In it was a list of significant performers of that era, divided into a first wave and a second wave. The first was described as the "porno chic" era, "between the late 1960s to early 70s, the second wave as "between the late 70s and early 80s." I'm not sure where the mid-70s land. The second wave ended with the introduction and mass adoption of video tape as a means of distribution. (I think the Supreme Court's Miller v. California decision in 1973 properly marks the start of the Golden Age and the modern porn era.) So I worked both lists. As I did so, I noticed some names that I was familiar with were missing, so I checked them. As I did so, I saw a few other names pop up that jogged some memories. The list is by no means complete, but I think it covers many names you'll recognize, a few you will have forgotten and maybe one or two you've never heard of (all assuming of course, that you have at least a passing familiarity with the era). I'm pretty sure I have the biggest names from the era; if you find a deserving name that I have left out, post it below. I have no firm criteria for the list, other than the Wikipedia lists or that she generally had to have been old enough to have worked with John Holmes or Seka, and, as I looked at film credits, she had to have a name I recognized or enough credits that I figured I needed to take a look at her. I don't have an answer to the question that started it all. I suspect it might be Sharon Mitchell, who IAFD says started in 1975. The other major candidate would be Sharon Kane, who debuted in 1977. A few of the names have significant totals in part because they worked through the transition from films to video. I'm inclined to at least note the following performers and their debut years, which would suggest that most of their bedpost notches came in the video era: Nina Hartley 1984 Debi Diamond 1982 Shanna McCullough 1983 Amber Lynn 1983 Jeanna Fine 1985 Tracey Adams 1984 Ginger Lynn 1984 A revised top three might then be: Sharon Mitchell Sharon Kane Vanessa del Rio One thing that's interesting to me is how whatever relative fame many of the performers gained, they did so with a relatively few number of films; the bottom three -- Bambi Woods, Linda Lovelace and Nancy Suiter -- all have names that still resonate on this board occasionally today. Traci Lords only did 40 films, Seka 65 and Annette Haven 66. I look her up and am surprised at the low numbers. A stand out for me, not "Golden Age," is Jenna Jameson. In my memory she was very famous in the 90s. I assumed she was very active. Yet, she is only credited on IAFD as partnering with 32 males. Consequently, on my list, I track a lot of "famous" performers who don't necessarily achieve high numbers. So, I track women like Bambi, Linda Lovelace, and Traci Lords despite their fairly low numbers. I maintain start year and end year (per IAFD). I sorted my list by start date. Here are a few more on our # cocks list who started 1985 or before (start year) Bunny Bleu 115 (1983) Cara Lott 103 (1981) Bionca Gold 99 (1985) Keisha 93 (1985) And here a couple more who I think of as "famous," yet not on the # of cocks list, started before 1985. My halfway educated guess is that Jenna's low body count is because 1) she worked primarily for a studio, which probably gave her some preference as to partners and had a fairly limited number if guys it would call for films anyway; and 2) she was in the era when loops were extinct and the single-scene concept had yet to migrate to the internet; most content was produced for full-length videos. The one I was surprised by was Ashlyn Gere, who I considered a fairly prolific performer. She cocks in (SWIDT) at 56. [Link]

But then I started looking at the names I've already checked and realized I'd have to leave off the previously named 80s debutantes, as well as Shauna Grant, Hyapatia Lee, Tracy Lords, and some probably some others. If we extended the debut year to 1985, that would open up a whole lot more names to check, ad well as blur the definition of the Golden Age and the scope of what I'm trying to accomplish. I think that's a bit too recent to be considered Golden Age, but, as I noted before, starting almost anywhere in the 80s would stretch the definition of Golden Age and make this a more ambitious project than I care to undertake. Again, though, where do you draw the line? I'm thinking 1980 and before is a decent arbitrary border. That lets in Veronica Hart, who I most assuredly think belongs to that era, along with a few others, while the classes of '81 and forward, IMHO, are open to some discussion as to whether they belong. What do y'all think?
