What exactly is a 'gonzo' porn movie? I know its a type of movie, but I just don't know what kind. I know that Channel X is a gonzo movie; Sydney Steele is in it and she has a huge nose. So, is it where a movie has nose-f*cking scenes?

Gonzo movies have the cameraman involved in the action in some way. This could mean anything from simply talking to the performers from off camera to being physically involed in the action.

Correct. Like Down The Hatch 2. The cameraman with camera in hand..fucks the juicy petite small blonde chic in doggystyle..while filming. Now thats cool.
Filming and fucking at the same time..now that is Gonzo at it's finest.

Even most of the adult industry get confused about what gonzo is.
A lot of people think it means a movie with scenes in it that aren't linked together plot-wise. These are more appropriately called "loops".
As the girlfriend of the industry-described "founder of gonzo" (John Stagliano "Buttman"), I'll take a stab at answering... John's described it to me several times.
Gonzo can take on several different forms. It can vary from the cameraman (in adult, very often the director) interviewing the actors, or participating in the scene with dialogue and/or sex.
It can also mean that the actors are simply acknowledging the fact that there is a camera shooting what they are doing.
So, although in adult gonzo, the cameraman is usually somehow visible or audible, simply the actors playing to the camera constitutes a gonzo scene.
In effect, "Blair Witch Project", "Real World", "Survivor", etc. are all different types of gonzo.

That's what I figured. The only explanation that I could come up with on my own was that its a movie where people nasal-fuck eachother.

Gonzo is really kind of a stupid name for it, it's really just Point of View where the parolee is at the center of action, I would imagine John Stagliano should give the definition since he basically invented the format. It also was a reaction to the "plot" movies that were tired at the time, and has more of a free flowing pace, then acting-sex scene - acting.
I would say today that the biggest Point of View director would be Rodney Moore. With the Down the Hatch stuff mining this same (blue hehh heh) vein.

Actually, gonzo is an appropriate (though general) term for the style. Gonzo has its origins in the early 1970s when it was used to describe Hunter S. Thompson's journalistic style, characterized by the unashamed pursuit of breaking traditional rules and guidelines about what should be published and how.
I think that describes perfectly what Stagliano did at the time when point of view adult videos were in the realm of home movies...
