I just felt compelled to write here.... I have been purchasing adult movies since the mid-90s. I do not really have any complaints. All good, overall. That stated, my collection has been overwhelming for many years. All of the VHS tapes. All of the DVDs, and Blu-rays. I found a website a few years ago, that definitely caters to my proclivities. facialforum.net. The folks there are people who I definitely find cohesive, as far as porn and such. Several members there advised me about how I can rip my DVDs to my hard drive, and furthermore, edit the scenes to only show the segments that I am looking for-with high-quality video results. I have purchased over 1,100 DVDs and Blu-rays over the years. 60% or more of the scenes in those discs are not my cup of tea. Thankfully, because of the software available these days, I now have the ability to edit out everything that I do not care for, and just finalize the good stuff to my PC. I have been working away for the last year-getting all of these discs ripped to my computer with only the scenes I want to see. I am sure most here can relate to this fun aspect; I have successfully been able to remove the "male talent shot" right before the popshot!!! I have no idea why producers in the past wanted to show the male talent just prior to the facial! No worries anymore! I have edited it all out. Just beauties, no male reaction shot! I just edited a scene with Peter North, where he was blasting the face of a beautiful girl from the 90s, and I kid you not....there was a 40 second shot of his face just before he unloaded on her! Whaa? Times have changed (Thank goodness!) I am a member of several legit porn sites, and I am glad that this scourge has waned. I am stoked that I can relive good scenes from the past, in editing out the shit I do not want to see or hear. For those of you who also wish to omit/delete the nonsense that you do not like, please check out b0ils0ft options. This is not spam, dudes. I have been a member here since 2006. I am just glad to have finally found a way to purge shit I do not want, and to get rid of a million pieces of poly-carbonate from my collection. S1
I too have been collecting porn since the early 90s and have always edited them to my own tastes. Back then it was just hooking up two VCRs and editing was really easy, made tons of compilation tapes. My preference is anal porn. I've edited so much buttporn it's unreal. Then dvds came out. I didn't want to lose all my beloved anal compilations so I burned them all to DVD. Since they came from vhs tapes the quality wasn't perfect but they serve their purpose and I still love them. When tapes went away I had to buy dvds and damn I had gotten so spoiled on edited stuff I just couldn't hardly deal with watching all the stuff I didn't want. A few years ago I finally learned how to download them into my computer and use Windows Live Movie Maker to edit them. And man, I am an editing fool these days!! Also subscribed to a few HD sites for downloading. Editing on the computer takes a hell of a lot longer to do than the old VCR but whaddya gonna do? I'm still a little old school, I like to burn all my stuff on dvd so I can watch it on all my tvs. I like to put my porn on in every room of my house. A dual layer DVD gives me about 4 and 1/2 hours per disc but again, it takes a while to do. Between downloading, converting, editing, preparing, and burning I will work on an editing project for days or even weeks before I get the final product. But shit it is worth it!!! When I am ready for a jack session I have exactly what I want when I want it!!
@sintricate: The male talent shot is one of the worst things to exist in porn. I'm guessing it was put in there as a cut away so they can set up the pop shot and not have to cut back to the same shot (making a jump cut.) How they didn't anticipate (or care?) that it would hurt the scene is beyond me. The clearest example of how this can ruin a scene is Miko Lee in GangBang Bitches 29. If you watch the whole thing you already don't trust the editor by the time it gets down to the facials. But basically they cut to the male talent every time, it's such a waste. Oh well, good luck with your editing.
I'm also a recent convert to downloading (last 18 months or so). Prior to that, I must've spent gazillions on DVDs (and VHS before that). It was part ignorance and part wariness of joining porn sites but since I finally took the plunge and joined my first site I've never looked back. I do love my DVD collection but I'd be lying if I said I didn't now regard it as something of a millstone around my neck - what with the physical space it takes up and the cost of acquiring it all. I now realise I was literally throwing money away when for about nine quid ($15) a month I can join a site like Videobox and download 24/7. I initially started burning the movies/scenes to disc but as my hard drive filled up (I've since purchased several external drives) I quickly got overwhelmed - not to mention the fact it takes fucking ages to convert mp4 to DVD format - so I don't bother any more.
Yeah, it does take forever. Usually when I have about 4 hours and 20 some odd minutes edited together on a project, I click on 'save' right before I go to bed because it takes about 8 hours to save it. Then I click on 'burn' right before I go to work the next day. By the time I get home it's all done. I do it this way because on my computer it's damn near impossible to do anything else on it while the save/burn is going on. Once something is edited and burned I delete it off my external drive to save space. As for the actual store bought dvds, I never save the cases, I just keep the dvds in a dvd book that holds 200 discs. I've filled up a few of them. I just keep them in case one of my edited discs was to ever go out and would have to edit them again. As for the actual edited discs, I can usually get 4 or even 5 regular dvds (edited) onto a dual layer disc. I edit heavy! If a shot goes more than 3 or 4 seconds without something I want--it's gone. Usually a 45 minute shoot has only about 15 or 20 minutes of stuff I actually keep. I may put 20 or even 30 edits in one 45 minute shoot. It's like a shotgun blast of just...exactly...what...I...want... It can be a pain in the ass to do--but it makes for great jacking!!!
^ I tried the overnight video encoding thing but found it unreliable. Too many times I'd wake up to an 'error' message. That said, I was using DVD flick, a free encoding/burning program that's not without issues. I've since switched to DVD styler (whenever the mood takes me to put something on disc) and haven't had any problems with it as yet. Nowadays, though, I usually forego burning to disc entirely and just use my PS3 as a media streamer in order to watch my stuff on the big screen. I've never got into the whole editing side of things - sometimes I'm in the mood to watch a nice tease or intro sequence. Just depends how I'm feeling. If things are dragging there's always the fast-forward option. But I appreciate in your case you're trying to trim the actual volume of data. Isn't editing incredibly distracting, though? I imagine every few minutes you see something really hot and have to...erm...take a break? Something you quickly learn as a porn fan is to ditch DVD cases! Had I not done so I'd probably need an entire room in which to house my collection.
Yeah, I can see that if you are not into it, editing could be a real pain. But it's not that way for me, I really enjoy it. I've been doing it for so long, to me, it's just the natural progression for my porn; buying, editing, watching. You might could say it is my hobby. Errors are a major pain!! I too have had overnight burns get the cursed 'error'. All that time wasted and you have no idea where the corrupted file is. I hate that!! Editing is just not for everyone I guess.
I am obviously not a member who posts frequently here... I just wanted to take a moment to pat myself of the back! I just finished transferring all of my DVDs to my hard drives! It took the better part of 2 years (on and off!) I now have a DVD collection of zero! All scenes transferred were my faves, and edited down to my favorite parts. I have a "man-cave" with several displays playing playlists of the content. So now I get to see an awesome collection of favorite girls and highlights on multiple displays. It is really cool seeing Crystal Gold with Brittany Andrews getting fucked in one display, right next to Krystal Steal facialed on another, while Jenna Jameson gives furious head on another, all the while Samantha Saint gets her face blasted by Peter North right next to another display showing an Allie Haze anal clip! Alongside that, older computers are playing 16:9 slideshows of captures and picture comps of Taylor Raz getting her face glazed and Jenaveve Jolie posing in nothing but high heels for a Digital Playground scene. I am caught up with videos on the hard drives, and just have to finish putting widescreen photo collages together with the screen captures from all of those scenes from the discs, along with current pics. Playboy, Twistys, and others. That will take another year or so. The software I have been using is DVDDecrypter and Handbrake for capturing, re-authoring, and cleaning-up the video, then Boilsoft Video Splitter and Joiner, for editing. Pic collages done with Photoshop with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. These are tools for the OCD porn addict! It definitely takes a bit of work, but the payoff is rewarding-my anecdotal evidence! Hope you guys and girls that collect porn will give this a go. Your collection fits on drives, and the scenes are shortened to your favorite parts. I never worried about buying DVDs years ago. It is just so much better to not have to track-forward or be subject to the limitations of a disc. Re-authoring and scenes downloaded from websites that we can join is a more efficient manner to get what you are looking for. By the way....4,136 scenes ending in (my favorite) facials from the DVDs covering 1993-2009 (and more since then from sites I am a member of!) Take that....1000 Facials dot com!
One other thing I forgot to mention--if you are saving an edit on your computer that is going to take several hours, make sure you turn off the sleep mode on your computer.
Pringles-you have always been my favorite poster/member here! Thank you for the advice! I have lost way too much content in years' past due to not having back-ups. I have everything backed-up on three active drives, and two more drives that are sitting in boxes. Maybe something that might be even more significant.....save all of these edits to a cloud as well-and then if I get run over by a bus, the full edited collection can be viewed by other facial fans!! If I just found a way to offer a link! That said, I paid for all of those discs, and I really do not want to ripoff those who created the content by posting it somewhere with unrestricted access to all who want to enjoy. The work I did was OCD-oriented. The actual porn, I think that the people who created it should be compensated, even if my edited versions are not the whole versions. Then again, if these edits represent my biggest achievement in life (laugh-out-loud here!), then maybe I should find a way to offer them for future porn-enthusiasts to come! Years ago, MTV had a show called "Cribs" (maybe they still do...but I am too old for MTV!!). If we had an ADT "Cribs", I would gladly showcase my man-cave. Members here would surely be impressed at the very least, but I do not have a janitor to clean-up the results of visits to this "museum" Lol! I also do the man cave thing, but since I still like my edited dvds I do it with tvs. I have 5 flat screen tvs in mine. Each with its own dvd player. I have two 46' screens, a 36", and two 27' screens, in addition to my 24' computer monitor. I also have mirrors on all the walls so there is even porn porn in view. Me and the computer sit pretty much in the middle of one wall and the tvs and mirrors are all around on each of the four walls Its virtually 360 degrees of porn! Everywhere I look, I'm seeing sex!
