| neondon Member 134 Posts 5/04 |  Posted - Jun 25 2004 : 9:43PMI have been reading the consumer ratings at Circuitcity.com for Sony TV's like the LCD Grand Wega, XBR Grand Wega, and plasma televistions. The 42-inch and 50-inch LCD Grand Wega have lots of complaints about the motherboard defects, and there is no date to tell me when they happened or whether the problems were resolved. Also the blacks are greyish and not black. Please give me some suggestions as I'd like to upgrade to a widescreen HDTV TV. It will sit in front of my bed, and my head will be about 10 feet away from the screen. So I'm thinking if I going to a 42-inch screen. My current television is a ten-year old 32-inch Toshiba Cinema Series that is starting to blink a lot. Any other brand is okay. Should I wait for a better TV? [Link] |

How much HD programming is available in your area and what about your local DT stations? The reason I ask is because some people believe that an HDTV will improve the picture quality of standard definition programming. In most cases, an HDTV will make standard definition programing look worse-not better. And the bigger your TV, the worse it will look. If the majority of your TV viewing will be in standard definition, you should look at how SD programming will appear on the HDTV that your interested in purchasing. [Link] |

Honestly, I was so impressed I didn't see the need for anything fancier -- unless you have to own a flat screen or a smaller-type model because of space concerns (but usually big TV owners are not people with space concerns). If you really are interested, email me and I'll dig up a review I found. I can't recall the catalog #. But it's obvious. They advertise it in Best Buy or Circuit City pullouts from the Sunday paper.
