When is Anabolic/Diabolic, Red Light Dist./PXP, Evil Angel, Sineplex and others going to start releasing there titles in widescreen? People are buying widescreen TVs like crazy but there is hardly any good porn shot in widescreen. There are only a handful of titles. It looks like Vince Vouyer will be shooting all his new stuff in widescreen. Hopefully other companies will follow suit. I don't want to have to wait for the dust to settle between HD-DVD and Blu-ray to start seeing good porn in widescreen.

RLD/PXP and Evil Angel widescreen will occur on a director by director and title by title basis. Tales from the Crack was done in widescreen as was Erik Everhard's Canadian Beaver. We've been told that Erik's next release "This Butt's 4U" will be done in anamorphic widescreen.

Vince was doing widescreen releases before he left PXP.

I've been shooting about 60 percent of my stuff in widescreen for three years now -- though admittedly, Bill, not true anamorphic ... though I would LIKE to!!!!

I hope more directors start shooting in anamorphic widescreen. It really adds to visual quality. It's great to see my whole screen filled with action as opposed to those black bars.

As the pround owner of a conventional, boxy CRT television, I agree whole-heartedly. I don't like black bars on my tv, either. Draw your own conclusions about what I mean. I do get mainstream movies on widescreen DVDs, but those movies were shown in the cinema that way and I do feel something is lost if they are shown pan-and-scan. But from my point of view, there's little real reason to shoot porn in rectangualar frames.
I'll get myself an HDTV when the tv I have now starts to not work right, and hopefully by then the prices of HDTV sets will have fallen, too. DVD replaced VHS so fast because it is not only a superior format, but also because the price of no frills, budget model DVD players dropped very quickly to be competive with the price of a new VCR. I haven't really looked at new television sets lately, but it seems that those HDTVs are still more expensive than conventional by a pretty substantial margin. If I bought an HDTV set now, I wouldn't be able to afford to buy or rent any movies to watch on it, including porn. Please do not force those with smaller incomes to buy hardware upgrades by jumping on new media formats before the hardware prices have come down.

gonzo wouldn't look so good in widescreen,it would be good for horizontal positions, but for reverse cowgirl, piledriver, etc,I don't see how you can get around the fact that the performers will be fairly small in the shot while you're seeing a lot more of the usesless crap around them.

I understand that shooting a POV bj in widescreen is redundant as you inevitably capture more furniture than people unless you move in closer but then the head is now out of the picture. One solution is to use vertical framing on POV bj, by that I mean flipping the camera on its side.

Now that the frame is tall and skinny like [] the entire head of the girl and all of the cock can easily fit into the picture - however the problem is that now you have turn your head sideways to watch this footage!

Okay, what's needed then is an HDTV screen that can rotate from portrait to landscape, like the monitor that I'm looking at right now, the LG L1980U.

I remember a videotape that Brian Eno made that required your flipping the TV set on its side. Who knows maybe in the future everyone will prefer to have vertical movies as opposed to horizontal and then we'd have tall skiny displays in our living rooms looking like [] black Kubrick monoliths. Less floorspace required.

I'm also thinking that the visual orientation of humans during the act of sex is more likely to follow a vertical direction than a horizontal one. When 2 people are engaged in intercourse (verbal or sexual) their bodies will be most likely parallel to one another, face to face, doggie, spoon, 69, all are parallel interlockings and therefore the eyes need to traverse the up/down axes. If you're outside with the same person playing tennis you'll probably rely on the horizontal more that the vertical. Of course the camera being an eye outside that is looking in on this couple's bubble need not adhere to their verticality, the observer doesn't interact intimately and its visual behavior is not governed by their body logic.

some of the great stuff coming from John T Bone's Damaged Pictures productions. Namely some of the stuff he shot in Brazil. Great quality.
