First, great move for Evil Angel picking up this line of UK fetish-themed titles. I'm a sucker for latex and pony tails and funny masks with plush red lips protruding from little mouth-holes. And I enjoy something a little different: Namely, the higher production values and the air of Anglo kink that permeates the Slam It! line and Tanya Hyde's movies.

All that said, and besides all the stellar casting (yes, I've been sating my McKenzie Lee fixation these last few days, but I still can't get enough -- Jenna, are you listening? I'll probably start checking out your movies now, LOL), I'm still bugged. I just can't quite get my groove on. It's the editing, or rather, the obvious heavy hand of post-production evident in these scenes. They are just a little too processed looking for me to fully dig into. What they lack in immediacy they make up for in stylishness. I think these are fantastic for watching with a GF who may not be that deep into porn. And the sex is hard . It's just detached -- less the sleazy documentary grist of "yellow-couch-gonzo" than a coolly mediated knockoff of a Helmut Newton concept.

Of course, I whine and whine about that cursed yellow couch. So someone comes and hauls it off to the Salvation Army and hires an army of dominatrixes in an Englishc castle getting assfucked by some dude with a twirly moustache, and I have the nerve to complain!

Well, I'm not complaining really. I enjoy the variety these new EA offerings provide. But I need to see a few more -- my issue, which is fundamental to how we enjoy porn, really has to do with "visual flow" versus "feature values." Interestingly, "Tales from the Crack" was the perfect meeting of both worlds.

Thoughts anyone?

I have Belladonna: Fuck Me, Cabaret Bizarre and Slam It! In My Ass.

All have fantastic cast lists, but the sex is just too detached, and the male performers 'wooden' - if you pardon the expression.

I'm just not sure where the eroticism comes from.

The voice overs are really cheesy, too -- a little too "smirky."

I love the idea of stylized sex, but I would like to see it realized without the detachment. Is it possible? "The Fashionistas" did that.

I thought Hotel Hyde looked awesome in trailers, but my copy got lost in the post. Likewise, House of Shame looks like Hardball 24 taken up a notch.

Would anyone say the Tanya Hyde titles are noticably better than the others?

There was a sort of master of ceremonies in Cabaret Bizarre, and he was annoying, as well as cheesy. I just don't understand how you go so far wrong with Alicia, Jane Darling, Donna Marie, and Sandra De Marco all in one movie.

Good call on the Hardball comparison.

House of Shame had some good moments. I really thought it was going to be a feature not an episodic.

The problem is, you are whacking -- there's action going on, and your eyes/brain/cock are zeroed in. But then there's an edit, and you're lost. I'm so used to gonzo where you do indeed plow through 2 hours of video to find the 37 seconds where a girl's face lights up like a meteor shower and the cameraman has the wit to keep her face in the frame with the pelvic action (or what have you), and then I just loop that shit and I'm gone daddy gone. I'm a connoisseur of sexual joy. I keep a little tea cup handy to collect all the tears of Sodom.

I mean, there's a lot of fun stuff in these ... but they are not even as strokable as the most mundane RLD joints. Yet, they are much prettier to look at. But, gosh, are they "actorly." I keep thinking back to Michael Ninn and Andrew Blake. The scenes are arousing, they just don't cut to the bone ...

Hardball often rocks my world. #'s 6 and 20 especially.

I think I have to consider Harmony titles as a little diversion to my usual viewing. And not expect the same rush. Maybe it's good for me.

I agree 100% with you, skronker... I think, because I haven't seen any of the Harmony titles yet -- unless Tanya Hyde's Wasteland is also distributed by them.

Besides Wasteland , I have seen all of the Tanya Hyde titles for Private's Pirate line. While they were a whole lot better than anything Kovi has churned out for that line, I still didn't really like them all the way. How ever much I wanted to like them, I always failed to really connect with them, mainly because of the two reasons you have pointed out:

1) A post-production style -- often combined with/based on certain stylistics of mise-en-scène, especially lightning -- which really pushed me away from enjoying the spectacle of performance.

2) A sense of distancing "theatraliteit" (I am not sure there is an English word for this) which permeates almost all the scenes and the performances. While some of the sex acts were quite out there, there was hardly any sense of 'rupture' of any kind. It all seemed like smooth, slick surfaces to me, like the latex costumes that many performers were wearing.
I guess I like to get under the skin.

That being said, I have never seen any better within this genre.
(What about Christoph Clark?)
Does his stuff count?

The Tanya Hyde movies are indeed slick and fetishy.

The Slam It series seems to be more consistently gonzo feeling, but with a lot of care taken to the production values.

And the Fuck Me series is also gonzo-feeling. The newest one, Lauren Phoenix Fuck Me, is perhaps the hardest and most 'real' feeling sex Harmony has released yet.

And Skronker, thank you for the kind assessment for Tales from the Crack. Ironically, one of the owners of Harmony and their general manager told me that they loved it too! I was so honored that they told me they liked it before they heard I had been on set.
I hope you like Vault of Whores as much.

I own Hotel Hyde and House of Shame and I'll pick up Cabaret Bizarre one of these days (I have it on a wishlist). I really like the aesthetic/fashion angle of these Tanya Hyde movies; the bondage thing is only a very minor interest.

The movies are slick and stylized but include lots of hard sex (unlike regular feature films). The detachment actually feels authentic, since it's very similar to seeing folks fuck in a sex club, etc.

It's also refreshing to see some real women fucking on camera, rather than bubblegum-snapping mall rats (whom I love, too).

For non-Harmony titles, I'm quite pleased with The Ass Collector, Fashionistas and Tales from the Crack. I'm really looking forward to the next episode of Tales from the Crack coming out next month or so.

Kudos to the directors, talent, and distributors who dare put this sort of entertainment out. We need more of this.

I'm really looking forward to the Lauren Phoenix Fuck Me title, too.

I really enjoyed "Tales," Trish. I could watch a lot more of that style. I'm going to keep renting the Harmony titles, partly for the girls but also just to see what the range is between directors.

Can't wait for "Vault of Whores."

Hrmony/Evil Angel is the only place I can now get my Ashley Long fix now. I have not seen anything from her from any other studio.

We've released a few of them now.

I agree with the comments made about Harmony. I have all the US released Slam it and Fuck Me titles. The casts are generally very good and ditto for the lighting and camerawork. The problems are: 1) some shots are presented too distant, 2) edits that suck away all the passion (seems more like robots fucking away in a fake sort of way), 3) an surreal artsy feeling that is too fartsy for my taste, 4) staged sequences that are too automaton-like, and 5) edits that have no rhyme or reason.

On one hand, the cast, action, and camerawork are good, but on the other hand, the passion is missing. The overall experience is one of artistic sex that kills the jerk-off fervor of the viewer -- it is too cold.

I love Tanya Hyde's movies, but am a little disappointed that post-Orgazm Addictz that no further Tanya Hyde flicks are due for release this year, that I can see. Are more on the horizon, or even being shot?

Also, are there any plans to release through Evil Angel some of Tanya's older, harder-to-get films like WORLD WITHOUT MEN or WASTELAND?
