I know you can't watch HD programs on a tv that's not HD, but what about a computer? Like, I've downloaded some stuff off of mainstream tv that was in HD before and watched it on my computer. Does the HD carry over because the monitor has a better resolution than a normal tv? Or do my eyes deceive me?

If its an AVI file, I think its prob.a rip / capture. and the HD tag on the file name refers to the Source it was orginaly rip/caped from, then re-encoded to divx or xvid.
Or it could mean your PC is somewhat new and it has a hd.

The HD qualities of an avi not carry over, but your computer is higher resolution then any TV.

Which is part of the reason why some stuff that looks acceptable on a TV looks crappy on a computer. The higher resolution exposes flaws the lower resolution of TV can't resolve. Interesting.
