I'm kind of behind the times on downloading porn. Specifically HD stuff. Some sites like adultdvdempire don't seem to list the resolution of their downloads 480p,720p,1080p. Some sites like aebn.net list some things as 1080p that I find dubious. For instance they have Elegant Angels Massive Anal Booty list as a 1080p download but when I go to Elegant Angels own site it seems to be available only in standard definition. On gamelinks site they have it listed at 720p.
What the deal? Who's right, who's wrong or lying?
Anyone have any tips on getting stuff at the best possible resolution? I'd also like to avoid paying some monthly membership. I just want to pay for what I buy.

I would also prefer not to buy a monthly membership but just for the movies I want for a dollar or two per movie. I normally pay about $15, say for Naughty America (regular price $24.95/month). This is a good deal, if I watch one movie a day, that $15 buys me 30 movies in a month. My problem with monthly subscription is I tend to spend time watching porn and I won't be able to resist not watching them because I have a paid subscription. So I would prefer to buy individual movies that I want for a dollar or two per movie.
The best possible resolution is 1080p. After that, it is 720p. Anything other than 1080p and 720p is not HD.
Most popular sites have 1080p movies. If they do not have 1080p, they need to invest in a new camera that shoots in 1080p. You may find some older movies in 720p because at that time, the cameras that shoot in 1080p are not out yet.
You can find out if the movie is 1080p or 720p by right clicking on the file, select Properties, select Details tab, and look at the Video section. AdultDVDEmpire should improve their site by listing if the movie is 480p,720p or 1080p. The other indicator is 1080p has a larger file size, typically a 30 minutes 1080p movie is about 1GB.

Thanks for the reply.
I know about the right click properties thing. I am wondering though are some of thes legit 1080p or some upscaled DVDs .
How is that some of these sites have videos that they say are 1080p but the studios own site say no such thing exists?

Just because a studio doesn't offer it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The scene may not be worth it to the studio for the extra bandwidth or they may at one point have offered it in the higher definition and found it wasn't getting the downloads. The secondary site may have gotten the permission to do the higher resolution one hoping that might bring in more people.

These are the three formats where I obtain adult content:
Dvds from online retailers. The best image quality, IMO, of all three. My 2 dvds of "Ultimate fuck toy: Kennedy Leigh" each have a data rate of 9800 kbps and a total bitrate of 9992 kbps.
Downloaded scenes from HotMovies.com. My thirty minute download of "About face", with Paola Rey, from HotMovies.com has a data rate of 1234 Kbps and a total bitrate of 1296 kbps.
They limit purchased downloads to 10 per day, 20 per 7 days and 40 per 30 days, so if you limit downloads to one per day, you won't exceed the limits. I like having the ability to purchase scenes, vs acquiring entire titles. I think if producers tracked those scene purchases, they may be better able to identify popular performers. Too often a dvd will have one or two favorites, with several others not even on my radar.
Thumb drives from online retailers. My single thumb drive purchase of "Smothered n' covered", twenty seven scenes, out of nine titles, all compressed on that tiny thumb drive, limits each scene to a data rate of 658 kbps and a total bitrate of 809 kbps. I was not impressed with the image quality of the titles on that thumb drive.
