DVD has a pretty good picture but has anyone here at ADT seen porn in HDTV? HDTV picture blows away DVD anytime of the day but I can only imagine how lifelike porn movie must look in this format.

I haven't watched it yet, but there is HD porn available on DirecTV as PPV every night (beginning at midnight, I believe). I think that it's the Spice Channel.

There is also an HD version of the Playboy Channel on Voom (I can't believe that I'm promoting Voom, as they are owned by the all time worst cable company ever, Cablevision). I think that Playboy HD is available on a monthly subscription basis, not just PPV.

There are only a couple of companies who have shot anything in HD so far. So, I don't know how much of Spice and Playboy are true HD vs. upconverts.

So far, if you're looking for porn that looks best on an HDTV, keep any eye out for movies that are being done in anamorphic widescreen on the DVD's. Off the top of my head, I know that a lot of stuff from Digital Playground is being shot this way.

Cosidering the attention to detail given to most porn I would not get your hopes up about it being done right.

we are offering true high definition videos on our subscription website HD XGirlfriend. Each video we have is natively 128 hex 720 at 30 frames progressive - they are not upconverts. the videos are rendered with Microsoft's Windows Media Video 9 to retain all the detail, keep a format that most everyone can use, and to allow for more manageable file sizes. tell me what you think!

A bit of advice highdefx: Some sample clips (even if just a few seconds long) in your free tour, might be in order.

As for Windows Media, well I don't know if I can play it, but I much prefer MPEG.
Of course me being one of the few commie rebels not running Windows I'm probably not in your target audience.

i have been working to offer a sample clip, and it is now available on the tour page

mpeg would be practically impossible....probably over a gig for 10 minutes of video at this resolution

i am working on a new codec to render these videos in a format that non-windows users will be able to use. trust me as soon as more options open to give a good alternative to microsoft media i will jump on it - but until HD becomes more widespread this is by far the best way.

it may be worth it to see if there is a way for you to play wmv, i am getting plenty of people emailing me from the members page telling me that they are going off to the store to buy a 21 inch monitor to take it all in lol

It looks quite good. The bitrate of course means a few compression artifacts are inevitable. Much much better that I expected though.

The lighting could be better. No doubt you'll improve with experience.

Could MPEG4 handle it?

I can play it but I usually avoid MS tech like the plague.
But as I said I'm probably not in your target audience.
I have an (unsubstantiated) feeling geeky Linux/BSD users are less likely to use their PC's for porn than baseline Windows users.
I for one prefer my DVD player and TV.

Very commendable.
I'll take your word for it.

It certainly does require a beefy PC. My XP2200+ can manage it without dropping frames, but the CPU load spikes close to 90%.

Anyway, best of luck with your site, it's nice when someone pushes the envelope.
Perhaps your content could be among the first porn on HD-DVD when that comes out.

BTW the girl in the bath tub is really cute.

lol, as i said - microsoft is the biggest player in hd on computers right now....so i have to put up with MS until they get some competition.

btw ATI has a HDTV Component Video Adapter which would allow the playback of our videos on a nice big hdtv rather than computer monitor. hah, you may be right about 'geeky Linux/BSD users'....but then again, what the hell do you have a computer for if not for porn?! lol

as sooooon as those hd-dvds get finalized rest assured we will be there!

thank you for your support and for your criticism, at the very least you have helped motivate me to install linux within the next month, i feel bad always talking shit about ms and still running it...

I've been trying to get purchase info through my HD Tivo for the HD PPV Spice Channel on the weekends but the one program that I'm interested in buying & recording, Spice Clips Live, keeps giving the "puchase information not available" message.

This is the only program (so far) that will not give me any purchase info. I can get info from the program that's on before it, Spice Hotel, so it's not a problem with that particular channel. My phone connection works and I already purchased "Seabiscuit" on this same PPV channel earlier in the year although that was before I got my HD Tivo.

Hey Bill,
Can you do me a favor and check the purchase info for the next Spice Clips Live show on your HD Tivo and let me know if you're getting the same message? I know it would be easier to call DirecTv for ordering info but...I don't feel comfortable inquiring over the phone on that type of programming.

Thanks

According to what I've read on the TivoCommunity and AVS forums, it seems that everybody has this issue. Apparently, you need to wait until it is about to come on in order to order it. This rule probably made sense at one time, but it no longer makes sense since the HD Tivo has been released.

the general rule with codecs is clockspeed is king. i think a 2200 is around 1.7 and is as fast as an intel at roughly 2.2 because of the better fsb implenation amd's have. similarly rated intels usually are considerably better at a/v stuff than32/64 bit athlons.

btw, i think most divx-like mpeg-4 stuff out there is MS Windows Media Video V3-based or oriented towards lower bitrates like adhead's stuff.

I can confirm that the above information is accurate. Tonight, I went to the Spice HD PPV channel 5 minutes after it went live. It gave me the pricing information and the ability to order and record it (I did neither). When I checked earlier this afternoon, I couldn't get any pricing information either.

OK,
Thank you Bill. I'm not up that late so that's why I was never able to get the info.

And I'm also a member of the Tivo forum but I've only posted there a couple times. I didn't know it was OK to post about Adult programming there.
