Adapted from the novel by Christos Tsiolkas, Loaded, Head On pulls you in and never lets you go. The main character is Ari, portrayed by a stunning Alex Dimitriades, who at 19, is trying to come to terms with his life. As he deals with his domineering father and his Greek ancestry, he also must face his obsessive sexuality, friends, and addictions. The film takes place over a 24-hour period and we see Ari at the brink of self-destruction. His life is a whirlwind of drug taking, back alley sex and inner turmoil. He has many sexual encounters, most of which are gay and there is some brief full frontal and backside nudity. He is also befriended by a transvestite, tries to satisfy his sister’s girlfriend sexually, and runs into trouble with the law. When he eventually meets another young man his hopes of love begin to flourish, but will he be able to overcome his destructive desires? This movie is totally captivating, story wise and by Alex’s portrayal of Ari who is a handsome and masculine gay teen trying to come to terms with what life has dealt him. The production values are high, video is crisp and clear and overall I highly recommend this provocative and original film.
