I'd like to become more knowledgeable on adult entertainment, but's hard to learn about...searches on google almost always end on commercial sites rather than educational, and there isn't really a "Porn for Dummies" book around. I've checked the Porn Dicktionary, as well as some info on AVN, but I guess what I'm looking for is some real stuff...who's under what company, major players for Wicked, Vivid, things like that. Also, what makes a good porn (general rules - I've heard entire bodymovement is a good sign)? I'm really not that well versed...I mean, I'm probably a little better than the average kid at college who calls himself a porn fanatic (when they're not), but I know I'm definately not up to you guys. Any places to "learn" about the business for the newbie? I thought i was into porn but didn't know much at all. Anyway, its not rocket science. You will pick it up fast. The single best resource I have found is just coming here and asking questions and reading these threads as well as the reviews on this site. They also have interviews, chat transcipts, lots of great stuff. Then I like browsing around www.adultdvdempire.com. Like if you hear people talking about how great PRIVATE movies are, go to the empire and run a search on PRIVATE listing them by bestseller, then read some reviews and pick a couple up. There pornstar page is also a great resource. If everyones talking about some chick you never heard of go there I think its www.pornstarempire.com and see a picture of her, read some reviews on her, find out what shes in, ect. Also, www.rogreviews.com is great. I go there a lot to read reviews or just news, or to run searches. They have a great archieve of interviews and all that. Maybe check out some of the gossip websites like www.generossextreme.com although I never found much there. That stuff kinda goes over my head, its to industry for me. And of course, watch a lot of porn. I wouldn't recommend buying everything you hear is great right away. Thats what I did and I've spent a grand on porn in the last month (although i do have a nice little collection to show for it). My local video shop has the shittiest selection of porn dvd rentals so I just ended up going into Manhattan which is 10 minutes away and buying a lot of stuff. If your budget is limited I'd recommend renting a lot from Xrentdvd.com. That way you can save money and find out if you REALLY like something before you buy. Oh yeah, occasionally look on this websites US dvd trading forum. You can find some great deals there and can build up a nice collection without spending nearly as much as you would buying it retail. That sums up how I'm learning. And I have a lot of these people here, especially Steve K. to thank for helping me.
