[Hoo, boy! I know I'm gonna catch a rash of shit for replying to this...but what the hell!]

I recommend Adult DVD Empire for the fastest service, the most up-to-date selection, and good prices. I've tried others before I began freelancing for them, and I have to say that they are, indeed, the best...

My advice would be to check out the Shopping Forum. You'll find recommendation (and warnings about which stores to stay away from there).

I probably buy more dvd's than anyone else who posts here and have had many dealings with many online companies. I don't work for any of the companies (not to suggest that Diesel is biased) so here's a quick rundown.

Using the price search feature on ADT, you'll be able to find the best prices on adult dvd's. Most of the best prices, aside from a sale, will be at DVD Advantage and 5 Star. I've ordered from most of the other affiliates here (and some that are not-although I've stopped that) and have discovered that the service you get at them, for domestic (in the USA) orders, is just as good as any place else.

That said, Empire has a good selection to choose from and their service is almost as good as the two above. Adult Dvd Now and Explorer have been decent too. Remembering that ADT won't allow an affiliate to abuse us and remain a member, you should do okay with any of them.

Feel free to email me if you need any more information from an unaffiliated, consumer viewpoint.

I hate to be negative, BUT ...

[FLAME_SUIT_ON]
Bullshit!!!!

AdultDVDEmpire's "service" is abysmal. I have spent a considerable amount of money at ADE, in the past, so I speak
with some experience. They cannot handle ANY sort of problem in a quick and efficient manner. They put the total burden on the customer to fix any problem with an order. ADE's customer service has no way to track returns. Nor are they any too anxious to fix problems. They are perfectly willing to charge your credit card for DVDs not sent or for a wrong DVD sent in error. The burden is on you to "prove" their mistake.
[/FLAME_SUIT_ON]

That said, stick with FiveStar or DVDExplorer. They provide quick service and responsive customer service when there is a problem.

To paraphrase "Slick Willy": Its the service, Stupid.

Welcome BadKarma - I like a man that speaks his mind, and you can take off that flame suit, it must be hotter than hell, and
you're safe here.

In fact, ADT has rules against blatant advertisements , 'cause that's not what we're about, though Drew & Steph are pretty easy-going and try to keep things peaceful.
They give us credit for our ability to recognize blatant advertising and dismiss it as such.

Again, welcome aboard BadKarma, and next time, don't hold back!

Thanks for the kind words.

You can't be too careful though. In some USENET news groups I frequent a simple statement like "I like text editor 'X' better than text editor 'Y'" can start a holy war.

Well, since I have been accused of offering a "blatant advertisement," let me just add that I used to shop almost exclusively at another on-line company that I kept my "Eyes" on. They were good, and prices were great, but since last year, they have steadily declined in offering new selections, and service was absolutely undependable. Friend to whom I recommended going with this company were pissed off that their orders were getting lost, or defective merchandise was not being exchanged. So, they tried Adult DVD Empire, and overwhelmingly preferred their service (and nope, sad to say, I don't get any referral fees or any free products --- unless I want to keep the review copies for a reduced payment --- from ADE).

I have tried other sites, but since I am a California resident, the so-called savings was not worth the overall tax addition. Despite BadKarma's bad experience, which may just be an exception to ordinary circumstances, nobody else I know has had problems with Adult DVD Empire...because if they did, I would have heard holy hell about it as a bad referral.

Postscript: Recall that Dragon1's posted question is an open book for anyone to respond. I absolutely admit that I do occasionally announce on this forum an article or two that I write at Adult DVD Empire, but this is because I think that the articles would be of interest, and hell, I do want someone to read what I wrote (so sue me!). But since Dragon1's question is fair game, I responded accordingly...

Diesel - I've read some pretty bad things about DVD Empire (not Adult DVD Empire) on other message boards. I've always attributed those posts to be a lot of crying over spilled milk. On the other hand I don't recall every hearing a complaint about Adult DVD Empire's customer service.

Why is there a perceived difference between the mainstream and adult sides of the same company? Got me. Maybe MasterB can shed some light on that. I assume it's a simple ratio of shipping volume. More mainstream orders equals a correspondingly higher number of customers that could have something to snivel about. (The mainstream studios also implement some less-than-intelligent last minute pricing, shipping and policy changes that leave the retailers hanging.)

Diesel, I wish the two of you would let it go...
(I think if you had remained mum on the prices bit, she'd have left you alone)

That said, I just got in a fairly large order from Empire (most of it was adult). I have to double check it (pretty big-ask your boss) for accuracy but it went much better than the time I was short shipped a title. In any case, Empire gave me a break on shipping this time and that was very nice. Kudo's to Empire.

When I order from Empire, I generally do well. The same holds true for most of the other companies here though too. Currently, I am only using 3 companies regularly for porn-see above for which ones ( I don't want to be accused of "blatant advertising").

Well,

I have ordered mostly from Adult DVD Empire and I thought they were very fast, and always replied to may questions but now they strangely requested a copy of my credit card etc. even though I ordered at least 8 times from them in the past with no probs...

The worst place I have yet ordered from is Digital Eyes, even though I didn't buy any adult stuff, they STILL haven't sent my order that should have been fulfilled on 16th January!!!

5Star are more or less the best in adult DVDs but their selection isn't that perfect and they take some time in getting new releases unlike Adult DVD Empire.. their website is less colorful too.

I'd recommend 5Star DVD. Had a great experience with them -- customer service and prices are top notch.

I'd say them or adult DVD Now.

Digital Eyes and Adult Eyes have been two separate companies since we starting working with Adult Eyes. If anyone has had service problems with Adult Eyes please let me know. Same goes for any store.

XEmacs rules!

Anyone who likes vi needs a mental health day!

But back to the topic at hand ...

Customer service starts where there is a problem . Getting your order to you in a correct and timely manner in the first place is what the retailers are supposed to do. That's why their getting some of your money. The true measure of a good retailer is how they handle problems.

I dont know why everyone gets so upset. Seems to me like you all just like having something to bitch about.

I've oredered from 5 star and i've oredered from adult dvd empire and I've ordered from explorer. I think they all get the job done and each boast different areas of specalization. I buy from adult dvd mpire when I have a specific or obscure title or star I'm looking to find and I buy from 5 star when I want cheap dirty porn

You would be absolutely correct ... if porn dvds were free.
However, I don't seem to find many for free when I surf the various retailer's web sites. They all seem to want money before they will ship a dvd. Since I have to work for my money I tend not to be careless with it.

I don't know about you, but when I pay someone for something I expect a certain level of competence and accountability.

I mean, you do care about whether you get what you paid for or not -- don't you?

Of course i care if I get what I pay for. I'm just not that concerned with all of the politics involved. I order my DVD, wait a week or so and get it in the mail. I always get the DVD I ordered, and I always like it (although I've just started to " ...talk...before I shop" as the slogan states. I think it's pretty predictable, and I usually have no complaints regarding returns or Customer service. I guess I'm just one of those people that doesn't bitch. If I'm out to eat, and I order a salad with blue chesse dressing and get ranch instead, I'm more inclined to give ranch a try than to complain about it. Ordering porn is way simpler - you click on what you like, type in credit card number, click "buy" button and wait anxiously.

Although I should say, one reason I don't bitch is becasue I have little to bitch about. Let soemone mess up my order and I bet I'd be on the phone.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by politics . I've been lurking here for quite some time now, and I haven't seen any retailer complaints that I would consider political . All of the complaints I've seen involve someone not getting what they ordered/paid for or a retailer slow to respond to a problem. I consider these fair complaints.
What if you got ranch every time you ordered blue cheese?

I think keeping the retailers "on their toes" is one of the best features of this group. I will not deal with retailers who get bad reviews. So I urge everyone who's had a bad experience with a retailer to spread the word here.

Just my $.02
