^Well, normally you would be able to have some sort of organization or agency to file a complaint who who could take action, but that doesn't exist in porn. In a more transparent industry, girls would be aware of Manwin's reputation and be advised to avoid them. But girls come and go in this industry on a whim. There is no formal process, no test to take, no license to earn. People leave this industry and try to forget and ignore everything, and that's why it continues to happen.
I mean this is a business that some banks refuse to accept money from. It's no wonder that there is so little support available.

This doesn't surprise me and yet it's still a bummer. I'm honestly surprised that Spiegler let her do the competition in the first place. Between this, the Carter debacle with Wicked, and the general fan apathy when a girl goes into a contract, I have to wonder if it's worth whatever commission to keep models locked in with one studio versus letting them shoot freely.

Nowadays, it seems like it's generally not worth it for the studio (which is why you saw DP change the contest to a bunch of guaranteed scenes instead of an exclusive contract) and it's only worth it to the performer if they have a side job/something else they're doing when they aren't shooting porn. If Carter hadn't gotten shafted by Axel, having more time to work on her music/DJ stuff would have been worth it. Asa Akira seems pretty happy under contract, and she's generally writing and I think feature dancing nowadays.
As to Aria, it sucks to hear her calling it quits, but it's not like it's not an unknown thing that DP can treat performers pretty shitty. Ask any one of their former contract stars, whom I don't think I've heard one say a good thing about them. Ask Brett Rossi how she felt about getting shafted after her first b/g scene.

^^ While I agree that at a certain point in a career a contract could be beneficial to the performer, it still leaves me wondering why he'd let someone so young in their career enter a contest where they'd be locked up in a contract that would severely limit their fanbase. I don't have the finances so I can't say for sure, but I feel like both Spiegler and Aria would have benefited greater in terms of building her brand at as many studios as possible versus doing the contract star contest with all of the bad will DP/Mindgeek has built in the industry and with the public over the years. In the end, it's Mindgeek's fault for treating her this way but I think there's also a responsibility that he missed here as her agent in advising her and/or flat out refusing to let her enter to begin with. When you consider that he doesn't let performers do certain acts on camera or work with TS women, it's even more baffling imo.

People tend to seriously overestimate the effect that going under contract has on people's careers (in terms of popularity). As a simple example, while this didn't work out well for Aria, it seems to have worked out just fine for Eva Lovia.
Edit: And the TS women thing and the "certain acts" thing (i.e. anal creampies) can both be seen as health issues. TS performers because of the less strict testing regimen, and anal creampies are literally the most dangerous act in porn.

Was she ever that popular? I don't really remember her as a rising star blowing up with bookings - if she was struggling with getting enough work DP contract was a possible way to get some guaranteed bookings to survive.
Spiegler might have advised her to stay away from it but an agent isn't supposed to be a boss who has the final word what they can or can't do - they should be working for the models, not vice versa since models are clients, not employees. Regarding his models not doing certain acts it seems to be more of a mutual agreement - I'm not sure there's enough interest among his models to perform those acts for them to be upset about it.
Outside of those restrictions I don't think he bosses his models around and lets them make their own career choices including participating in contests even if he's against it and can only strongly advise against that at most. So I think they discussed that it was a risky move but she decided to take the risk, especially if her career wasn't going anywhere at that time.

^ Mark has always gotten a lot more right than he's ever gotten wrong.
In fact, if I had to pick one guy to help guide and develop a girl's career, Mark seriously has to be your go-to guy.
I'm hoping that Aria will take some time off, and possibly come back on her own terms down-the-road.
She's too attractive and too talented to simply walk away from a very nice career.
Of course, she may have come to just hate the whole porn thing.
In which case, best wishes moving on.

^ Not sure if you're disagreeing with my post in your first 2 sentences but I haven't really said anything negative about Mark in it - in the 2 paragraph I was talking about how agent shouldn't act like a boss in general and I don't think Mark does that.
Chances of her coming back seem really low based on tweets from the previous page
@ariaalexanderxo<brWorking with digital left me exhausted and jaded, and unfortunately once I was free again I wasn't having fun anymore
@ariaalexanderxo<brI think this was a golden year for new beginnings regardless. Porn was never a legit career to me
@ariaalexanderxo<brI didn't have a bad experience, I just know there are better experiences elsewhere

^Since none of those tweets are of the "I hate porn"/"Porn ruined my life" variety, the chances of her coming back after awhile don't seem all that low to me.

Not at all.
I was just further elaborating on your thoughts.
Seems we both have great respect for Mark :)

She did reply "Never" to coming back in one of her tweets, but there have been others that have said that who did return. I say if she's still gone a year from now, and not popping up at events or doing cam shows, then maybe she's serious.

Even Eva has said that being under contract was not good. I believe she talked about it on one of Manuel Ferrara's Twitch livestreams fairly recently, so if you're interested in that conversation go on his Twitch and watch the VOD - she also revealed she's working on an anal showcase too. Its quite interesting if you want to know about her career.

I'll watch it, but what I meant by that is that Eva really isn't any less popular now than she was before she "won the contest". Since I know Mindgeek is a shitty company, I figured her time there wasn't all that great to her, but her popularity never really suffered.

Yeah, I know what you meant. But that is because Eva had already built her brand a bit before she was contracted to DP - she shot a number of scenes for all the usual big sites and was blowing up at the time and was one of the best newcomers; and she has a unique appearance too being japanese-spanish mixed, and had established a reputation for her iconic big booty.
I think Aria could have done with waiting another year, at least, before considering going for a DP contract; and focusing on building up her brand and gaining fans from the audiences of all the major sites. She was gaining popularity at the time but she went into the DP contract contest very early on which shackled her to them and stunted her career in the long term, I feel. But this is just guessing - I don't really know what Aria was dealing with behind the scenes/what the situation was like.

I get what you're saying, but Aria was available to shoot for other companies for much longer than Eva was before she won (Eva was only shooting boy/girl for about 3 months before that point). Aria had been around for almost a year going by the dates at the start of this thread. Once you've been around for that long, especially if you have a good agent like she did, you have a good grasp of how companies see you and how popular you are in the industry.
Edit: The most impressive thing about how Eva handled the start of her career was the fact that all those scenes she shot for major companies were basically shot in a 2-3 month span between her first scene for the DP star contest and the night she won the competition.

Eva had still been shooting GG and BGG scenes for at least a year earlier (maybe almost 2), like that BGG scene she did with Keisha Grey, which built up hype and anticipation for her eventual switch to BG scenes. She also did camming too, I believe.
Also, I'm fairly certain that Aria debuted in early 2015 and she went on the DP star contest in late 2015 (Nov 2015 - Jan 2016). However her early scenes were for niche sites under a different name, at first, which went under the radar for a lot of people. She started really blowing up in mid-late 2015, just a few months before she went on the contest, if I recall correctly. Her brand was not as established as Evas was at the time imo.
Its a shame Aria has quit, I believe she could have become one of the top performers now that she'd left DP, but alas.

^^ Eva also had 2+ years of doing g/g only to build a fanbase of both g/g fans and b/g fans that wanted to see her do b/g. Aria was just a very promising talent but didn't have the opportunity to build that swell of support before she went into contract. I'm honestly surprised that Spiegler let her do DP star with all of the horror stories of girls in contracts not Asa Akira.

Shoutout to this absolute beauty. Has since left the scene and we wish her well, Aria left behind an amazing library of scenes though and was always magnificent every. single. scene.
