I have to preface I'm not a big expert in technology, high tech and electronics. I've noticed that all my old dvds don't play very well: visual images on the screen are a little out of focus, misty. I've tried with my disc of Jack's Pov 5 (Digital Playground), shot in HD, and it plays perfectly: pictures are clear and clean. Damn, I will never use my new television for my old dvds!? Do Evil Angel, RLD, PXP, Anabolic...release movies shot in HD? Thanks. [Link] |

| EvilMonkey Member 55 Posts 9/06 | Posted - Jun 12 2008 : 2:45PM Secondly, there are a few things that you could be looking at. 1) Your DVD player is probably alright, since it has an HDMI connection and should upconvert. There should be a settings menu where you will want to make sure that it knows you have a widescreen TV, and you'll probably need to tell it what resolution it has(either 720p or 1080i/p depending on your TV). Also, make sure it's kicking out a "progressive" signal (that's the "p" in 720p or 1080p) 2) Porn is definitely not the best indicator of whether your display is calibrated correctly (right brightness/contrast/saturation, etc). You should go get a decent DVD to look at that's received good marks for video quality...something like 300 or Peter Jackson's King Kong springs to mind, and make sure those look good. Or better yet, Netflix Digital Video Essentials and do the calibration yourself. Finally, you could look at getting a Blu-Ray player if you want (I just picked up a PS3 last weekend), but if you're only planning on watching SD (regular) DVDs, it wouldn't be worth the added cost. Alternatively you could look at getting a good upconverting player (you said yours is cheap so it might not do the best upconverting job, but without knowing what brand/model it is I can't help you out there). | MikeSouth Deactivated User 511 Posts 11/02 | Posted - Jun 12 2008 : 7:48PM almost everything upconverts these days including your TV before you spend any money on anything make sure your TV is set to upconvert and make sure it doesnt zoom or strech or whatever. That said a lot of porn is very poorly mastered many editors have about as much education in being editors as the directors do in being directors (read NONE) and in many cases they are the same idiot. If the master the dvd in NTSC 480i it will look like ass when it upconverts it should at least be mastered in 480P dp does this, it doesnt matter what the video was shot in. second I would advise against a blu ray unless you get a PS3 the reason being they cost about the same and the PS3 is far superior in that it will play H.264 video which is the standard for the net. I have a low cost computer (about 400 bucks) I use as a media server, it attaches directly to my HDTV and sees my DVR as a disk drive I can download H.264 encoded full 1080P and play it flawlessly to the HDTV and video coded this way will almost always fit on a standard DVD9 (ie no need for a blu ray disk) if you want to save it for play other than from your hard drive.
