I was at adultdvdempire.com today and thought that I would buy the Tantus Buzz I dildo but the price at $40 seemed a little high and it was only available in black and not offered in the additional colors. I decided to do a search on Google and was amazed to find the same dildo for sale at Amazon.com of all places for only $29.95 plus Amazon.com offers free shipping.

I used to like adultdvdempire.com but it seems like they are raising prices and have stopped offering coupons plus they seem to be narrowing their color selections.

In the future, I will Google for prices before I order.

ADE has had traditionally higher prices. They've also had good enough service that people seemed happy to pay the higher prices for the quality service they received.

Well to be honest I have found ADE to have competitive prices, at least in the past. It does not take a lot of effort to compare prices on the internet and I do check. I also agree that ADE has always had good service but so do other retailers both those who advertise on AdultDVDTalk.com and elsewhere and nobody beats Amazon.com when it comes to service.

It is just my opinion but it look to me like ADE is attempting to raise prices across the board so as to compensate for their free shipping. They are apparently no longer offering coupons so while in the past I would trust ADE to have a competitive price, now I am not so sure. In the past 5 years we have placed over 200 orders with Amazon.com always with great service so if they are 25% cheaper than ADE they will receive my business.

Wait till they majorly screw up an order. They messed up one of mine about two years ago now, it took them a month to fix their error and actually ship it. Then they charged me a higher price for the items since they had put the price up since I ordered them and ended up charging me two shipping charges since they decided on their own to ship them seperately. I've tried to use them as little as possible since then.

I wanted to reply to this and let you all know that we are not raising prices to account for our free shipping offer. In fact we globally lowered prices at least twice in the last 16 months.

We've offered free shipping with no restrictions for over 2 years now, and to this date no other retailer has been able to match us on this policy.

Specifically looking at the Tantus Dildo, we are selling it for $40, the price hasnt changed since the item was entered into our system on 10/26/04

We are not offering tons of coupons this month, but if you visit our site there is a coupon offered in the shopping cart. But we have not "Stopped offering coupons" permanently, we're just trying something different.

Flash - I;'m sorry to hear you had such a bad experience, mistakes happen, but if we made a mistake with your order, you certainly shouldn't have been charged for it. If you send me an order number or your username (via email please - check my profile) I Can lookinto the problem for you and make sure it is resolved.

Well I guess that was the point of my post. You are selling the Tantus Dildo for $40.00 while Amazon.com is selling the same product for $29.95 or 25% less including free shipping! I also found this product at several sites priced at in the low 30 dollar range including free shipping plus a choice of colors while you are only offering the product in black.

I think that Flash was referring to a problem which he had with Amazon as opposed to ADE. I have placed over 200 orders with Amazon.com over the past 5 years for 2 reasons, service and price. This is the same reason that I have shopped with ADE however if ADE cannot at least meet or beat Amazon.com in price then in my opinion you are going to lose the game especially if Amazon.com decides to enter the business with both guns blazing. I doubt if Amazon.com will enter the adult dvd market but it looks like the novelty business is fair game.

With regards to trying something different, there is nothing wrong with experimenting however I think that the bundle idea is very strange. For instance, I looked at the woman's anal bundle and my response was what a weird idea, why would anyone order this bundle?

Regardless, I hope that you take this post in the spirit which it is intended, that of constructive criticism. If you were a dollar higher than a less established company I would in all probably place the order with ADE however when Amazon.com under cuts you by 25% then the game is over.

I wasn't referring to ADE, I was referring to Amazon.com. I've never had a problem with one of my orders through ADE.

I've purchased from adultdvdempire.com and have been very satisifed with my purchases. I'm even willing to pay slightly more if it means that I'm getting exceptional service. Having said that, comparison shoping is always important to me. If I can get the same product at another vendor, who also offers exceptional service, and they are offering a coupon, guess who wins my business.

Empireman, I commend you on all of the hard work that has gone into building adultdvdempire.com, and know that your company offers good value. But please, bring back coupons that help the consumer stretch their porno dollar

I almost decided not to make this post as I was a little embarrassed for ADE. When I ordered the Tantus Buzz I from Amazon.com I also ordered a 5 oz bottle of Astroglide for $8.79. ADE sells the same 5 oz bottle of Astroglide for $14.00 or 60% more than Amazon.com. I did a quick search and found the 5 oz bottle of Astroglide for sale at several sites in the low $9 range. These are very large differences in markups! A smart shopper is an informed shopper and I for one am very pleased that Amazon.com seems to be entering the adult market. Maybe AdultDVDTalk should contact Amazon.com and invite them to the site.

P.S. Amazon.com also has a new search engine by the name of
A9.com which utilizes the Google search engine. If you register your account at A9.com you receive an additional 1.57% off of every Amazon.com order which you place.

No, Amazon does not offer free shipping to Brazil. I own a business in Brazil hence I am frequently in Brazil. I live however in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Amazon does offer free shipping to Jackson Hole.

Looked up the Tantus Buzz on Amazon and it's $39.95. Looks like jacksonhole just caught Amazon during a sale.

Out of curiosity I just compared prices on a couple of random items, and it turns out that Amazon is higher than ADE, so it does pay to shop around.

8" Realistic Dildo, Vibrating DJ....Amazon $59.95...ADE $47.
Hitachi Magic Wand Vibrator......Amazon $49.95...ADE $40.

Wrong, here is the Tantus Buzz for $29.95

Here is the 5 oz bottle of Astroglide which Amazon sells for $8.79 as compared to $14.00 at ADE

I decided to call Amazon.com and was told that they were preparing to make a big move into adult products, I suggested to the person with whom I spoke that they consider advertising on aduldvdtalk and I also made the same suggestion in a follow up email to Jeff Bezos.

I assume that adultdvdtalk would welcome Amazon.com as an advertiser.

Amazon.com does not sell either product. What you are seeing are offers from associate stores that pay Amazon.com a fee to be listed on their site.

It's the same vibe, just a different color. ADE only sales the black one, and Amazon's black one is the same price. Amazon is probably overstocked on the colored one you linked to. Same with the lube...most of the other lube on Amazon seems to be priced about the same. I'm sure there are dozens of novelties on ADE that are currently on sale for a lot lower than you'd see them elsewhere - that's why it's good to shop around...but it doesn't mean one store is way overpriced and the other isn't.

Yes, if you wished to purchase the Tantus Buzz in another color besides "Henry Ford Model T Black" then you would be out of luck at ADE. With Amazon.com you have a full choice of all colors offered together with free shipping. Plus, if you were interested in purchasing the Tantus Buzz in Peacock Blue it is 25% less at Amazon.com. The executive at Amazon.com with whom I spoke said that they were testing the elasticity of demand at different price points but they were determined to have the lowest prices online once the adult store comes out of beta. His exact words were, "nobody will beat Amazon.com".

As far as Astroglide is concerned, it is available in both unflavored as well as strawberry in the low $9 dollar range at many sites. I was told at one site that Astroglide recently lowered their prices, apparently ADE did not follow along with the new pricing and is still selling the 5 oz Astroglide for $14.00 and the 5 oz Strawberry Astroglide for $16.00.

Wow! This is really amazing.

Trojan Ultra Ribbed Lubricated Latex Condoms - 36 ea $8.69 at Amazon for 36 while ADE charges $14.00 for 12 or $42.00 for 36. ADE is almost 5 TIMES mere expensive than Amazon.com. Same savings apply for different styles. There it is in black and white!

At some point you have to weigh the options and realize when a mainstream company such as amazon starts doing adult retailing, it will NOT pay off in the long run.

Supporting the beast we know as amazon only takes away business from true companies who support the adult industry.

Imagine this scenario, amazon starts selling adult dvds because they already see the profit in the toys. And this WILL MOST DEFINITELY put out of business a ton of adult merchandisers who cannot compete with walmart-a-amazon. And then amazon, being such a public company, makes the inevitable restictions on what they carry so that it doesnt hurt there 'regular' business. Yeah, new companies will come back, but the old companies who folded who provided good service (yet dont have the thousands of staff members of amazon) are gone. Maybe you only care about getting the best price online, and to hell with the companies who don't keep up with the walmarting of internet retail, which is what i think of amazon. I tend to want to support those that are adult companies, first and formost. Or at least are supportive of the industry beyond just the $.

Consider your options, we come here to adultdvdtalk, use this forum, and treat adultdvdempire like the bad guy, because their price is higher. At least they participate in the adult retail world and come to ADT to talk about their service. They go to avn, they sell porn. Do you see a customer service rep from amazon jump on here and say anything? Try posting a complaint about empire here and you will get a response. A personable one. Amazon doesn't participate in kickbacks, etc. They are just riding the internet for all the dough. A big money grab now that they see a new industry to dominate and undercut everone else. Mark my words, its bad news when the big boys stick there hands into the cookie jar of porn. The adult toys might just be the beginning. And then, when its said and done
YOU personally will have some more money because you
price-shopped amazon but you wont have the smaller
e-tailers. And if thats your vision of a good shopping experience for adult products, then I guess we might as well have kids pack it for you in India so you can get it cheaper also. No big deal, your saving money.

Sorry, just my two cents.

In addendum, I re-read all of the jacksonhole posts, and they seem very strange to me. Very pro-amazon. Do you work for amazon.com? Wierd that you would talk business with them to get them to advertise with adultdvdtalk, etc. I only see 9 posts under your name, and I apoligize if this sounds accusational, but your posts read like a schill for a company that either (A) sells product to Amazon, or (B) you work for amazon. Either way, I will reiterate that I think its vital for ADT members to be supportive of adultdvdtalk affiliated websites.

In regards to saving money, I have seen bootleg versions of redlight district dvds way cheap, but guess what? I didn't buy em because I would rather support redlight then save moolah. That to me is being the responsible consumer. Much as I would rather support adt affiliated websites than support AMAZON because they are cheaper for a few items.

Again, I am not trying to offend, its just how this post reads to me.

Great post P-Knuckle! Actually, I think that ADE is a great company, in addition to their adult division they also have a very nice mainstream division. I like ADE, their service is wonderful, just like Amazon.com. I am just taking the other side of the debate so as to have a good debate. Many people are pro ADE which is understandable as they have supported this site for a long time. I could very easily switch and be pro-ADE but it would not be good for the thread.

I asked the executive at Amazon.com if they were planning on selling adult DVD's and he would not comment. In my opinion it would be highly unlikely they would they would enter that market. I was very surprised that they were selling adult products, actually I was more than surprised, I was shocked!

I think in the end the small players will be out of business and only the big players such as ADE, Amazon et al will fight it out amongst themselves.

I do however see a larger threat to the adult industry and that is the advent of broadband internet connections as well as more sophisticated and fast file sharing methods. It is wrong, it is stealing and I have no intention to describe those methods in this forum however in my opinion it is a very real threat to the economic viability of the industry. For that reason alone, it probably should be discussed. The methods which people are using however should not be discussed.

Something else which is flying under the radar is the fact that many people simply rent adult DVD's and rip the DVD prior to it being returned should they wish to keep a copy. This has got to be hurting sales of Adult DVDs. I know many people who have not purchased Adult DVDs or any DVD for that matter for at least 2 years. Again, given the fact that many in the industry post on adultdvdtalk I would think that this is something that probably should be discussed however that is just my opinion. If someone wishes to discuss these issues they probably should create another thread, maybe in the Porn Pool or Porn News, I only bring them up because they are relevant to your post.

However, as jacksonhole pointed out regarding the items that dumblonde mentioned, the black vibe isn't being sold by Amazon. Someone else (Freddy and Eddy) is using Amazon's storefront. They are the onese selling the black vibe for $39.95.

Amazon already does sell some adult dvds.

I'd like the contact info or phone number for the executive at amazon. I'd like to talk to them.

Really? Hardcore adult dvds? That is amazing. Do you have a link?

It is not a big secret, I just called their corporate office and asked to speak with the marketing department. I was transferred around and then I was connected with an executive who spoke with me. Try it yourself.

Jesus look at this - Amazon.com has the Sportsheets Beginner's Bondage Fantasy Kit - 1 kit for sale at the regular price of $12.99 while ADE has it temporarily on sale for $13.60 regular price $17.00. Don't blame me, I am just reporting.

I think that we get the point. Amazon now sells some adult products and, as usual, they often sell them at reasonable prices. I don't think it is fair to single out AdultDVDEmpire.

There are tons of sites on the internet to purchase adult products. Many of them offer awful service and/or high prices. AdultDVDEmpire runs a quality business at generally average prices. They are neither the cheapest or the most expensive. We could all spend all day finding cheaper prices for specific products at one site or another.

...except that all of the people using the Amazon storefront have prices equal to or higher than ADE. It's just the stuff that Amazon is selling directly that is beating the other prices.

IMO, Amazon is doing nothing different with adult product than they did with other product lines as they introduced them. They price things ridiculously low, which brings new customers to Amazon and then they let the prices creep up to the point where they are the same as the competitors price.

I'm happy to hear Amazon is selling adult related material. The winner from increased competition is the consumer.
