I believe there's a sticky post in the porn pool forum. If not, I'm sure someone here will give you better instructions. Everyone has got to start somewhere when producing porn and my guess is that as long as your tests are in order, you can afford the talent's rates and you don't come off as a total doucebag, you should be good to go! People I know who have tried to start and run adult-oriented video production enterprises in other States have been driven to the low-margin underground or out of business entirely by nuisance legislation and lack of dependable, viable on-camera talent. Jewel De'Nyle and Jules Jordan have been able to make a go of things on the East Coast, but their unique histories make them the exception. Make no mistake: The talent base for pornography in North America is located in Southern California. That said, you can find references to every major adult talent agency in Los Angeles on this site. Make the required telephone introductions and go west, young man! Final tip: Don't be a "cheap charlie". If you want to hire Katja Kassin for a double anal, offer her at least 5% over her asking price to insure against the "first time director" learning curve and the possibility that it might turn out to be a long day. Such gestures in establishing new business relationships in this industry (with the right people) will pay off in spades down the line. Zen [Link] |

The reason being is that I'd want to work out some of the kinks with some no named amateurs than really blow it in front of top shelf talent. You never know what's going to come up... camera malfunction, lighting issues, time delays. Countless things can come up to ruin a perfectly planned scene. I respect that you want to hit a homerun your first time at the plate, but you should make sure you know how to swing the bat first. I must admit i hadn't actually considered doing a "soft opening" production with amateurs for any of my main projects, only for a minor project... now that you mention it i realise i should do a dry run of everything before hiring the top shelf talent. Zen, great advice on the fee side, i'd already penned down 1.5 to 2 times the standard rate for top tier talent, as i need as much credibility as possible not to come across as a doucebag :-) No doubt in my mind the first thing to do is "go west". legislation is another thing i must research. Other things i'm working on in the mean time are having a .com website, several photoshoots with local models, a number of short films on various topics, etc, to show that i am professional and competent.
