this "leader in bareback porn" company... are they worth it? i saw they had Jeff Palmer RAW and was curious to see what they are like. i'm not that versatile in my gay porn catalogue and only know companies i can hang with. the fact that they had Jeff Palmer behind them piqued my interest (and the fact that he BOTTOMS in it also piqued my interest).
just so long as he doesn't "sing" we'll be alright.
anyone brave enough to have already checked HDK out?
Jeff Palmer Raw is one of the next up for me to get and review. I've looked at Bare Muscle and Dungeon Fuck Party and I think my reviews are posted. At least for these 2 and some others by HDK, ya gotta really like hairy, somewhat older guys doing really, really man-to-man sex that is not a polished production. No twinks, no big porn stars, no plot, no mercy.
well i liked how they said the whole Palmer bottoming scene wasn't scripted and that he just did it! so i may check it out. Palmer always turns me on when he climbs on top and just drills it in. i think your post alone might've stemmed me getting it. i'll probably wait to get enough KickBack$$ points and i'll check it out.
I realize that there are fans of Palmer, of HDK videos and of bareback titles; however, I have a very difficult time keeping quiet on this subject. Palmer is HIV positive and has laid blame at a number of people in the gay porn industry. Bareback videos, especially with someone known to be HIV positive, are not a good example, regardless of their appeal to segments of the market. And HDK should be ashamed of itself for exploiting the situation, regardless of the market potential.
There are certainly many bareback titles and an enormous amount of raw footage left over from the pre-AIDS era. Unfortunately, many (if not most) of the participants in those scenes are dead of AIDS. What better memorial and what better warning than to resurrect that material for current distribution.
We do not need to add to the over-long obituary lists by introducing new material, endangering current actors and models. Nor do we need to allay viewers' fears falsely that risky behavior is acceptable. Regardless of warnings, video material exploiting risky and dangerous sexual behavior does promote such behavior as being acceptable among viewers. And HIV/AIDS is on the rise again in the gay community, especially among younger members of the community. This is not acceptable.
woah, Palmer is HIV positive?! i did not know that! that is fucked! how could some hoe of a bottom let him top them if they know that?! i don't care how much the company pays me, i am not risking my life for some latin boy who thinks he can sing! he's hot & all...but damn!
it doesn't mean i won't still buy the movie (he's hot! i'm sorry), but it's left a very sour taste in my mouth.
I'm not one of the biggest HDK fans around... I've seen 2 of their flicks, and my theory goes like this:
There's 2 advantages to bareback porn. 1) Obviously, no condoms. 2) Oral cumshots
BUT...
When you are watching a scene, the no-condom thing is exciting for about the first 30 seconds of penetration. After that, it's pretty much just the basic in and out you see anywhere, but this time, the performers aren't very attractive. So you really have nothing interesting to see until the end of the scene, where the oral cumshots come in. And as much as I like seeing people eat cum (I know, shame on me), I don't like seeing them eat cum out of someone's extruding asshole.
As far as Jeff Palmer is concerned, I thought he was pretty good looking back when he did movies for Falcon, but my GOD! Have you seen him now with that bleached wavy hair? YIKES!
Jeff Palmer also has the distinction of being one of the looniest guys in porn. Check out this quote from his website: (emphasis is mine)
i've read that theory he's talking about before. i dunno if i think its 100% loony but then, i may be a loon for thinking it. but yeah: money machine or not, i wouldn't take his cock up my butt fer nuthin!
There is certainly a lot of fraud in the world, including in the medical industry. However, I do not think that HIV/AIDS and its associated research and medications are among that fraud.
There is also a lot about the human body and its health mechanisms that we do not understand. That does not mean that we do not understand a great deal about some of those mechanisms. How HIV/AIDS is transmitted is very well known. Anything we can do to discourage unsafe sex practices is a good thing. Anything that we do which encourages sexual situations which are known to be conducive to the transmission of the HIV/AIDS virus is a very bad thing.
OF COURSE bareback sex is dangerous. I did not know about Jeff Palmer’s weird views on HIV and AIDS. Thanks to Joeblow for sharing that. I was aware that similar views were out there but anyone who does not believe in the medical model of HIV causing AIDS and that it can be controlled at least to a certain degree by the current drugs is, pardon me, an idiot. Nonetheless, I take the libertarian view that we are all each individually responsible for our own behavior. People know or should know what they are getting into when they make these flicks and my watching or not watching, buying or not buying is gonna affect that part of the industry about as much as me not buying an SUV is gonna cause Saudi Arabia to go bankrupt. I simply do not buy the notion that people watching these films in the privacy of their own homes are in any way a major cause of the recent increases in HIV infections or AIDS. There are probably far more gay porn stars that died/are dying of drug overdoses than from AIDS. Read Mickey Skee’s recent column on the death of Mike Henson, one of the icons of 80’s porn (Big Guns, Two Handfuls, etc.) who just died from drugs after being spit out by the industry. Sorry to get on such a soapbox, but……Yes HDK is probably exploitative of people but, really, only somewhat more so that the rest of the gay porn industry, IMHO.
Thanks Joe for reprinting Palmers wierd ideas about AIDS. Besides being completely out of left field, the proponents of bareback sex often state that their activities are a personal choice that doesn't affect anyone but them. That would be true if they lived alone in a cave, but they don't.
These guys have friends and families that will have to suffer with them through the disease. They have communities whose resources will be stretched to help them cope with the problems they will ultimately experience and they live in a country of taxpayers who will ultimately be left with the bill. Not to mention the higher insurance rates and health care costs.
Having unsafe sex is not just a personal choice, and producers of bareback porn are encouraging this behavior by eroticizing it for their viewers. Their real goal is to make a fast buck off the lives of the participants.
Sometimes just because something is hot, doesn't mean it should happen. I salute the producers who have determined to portray only safer sex on screen and firmly believe adult films can be done ethically and still be hot.
You go, folkyboy! I am chuckling out loud at your last comment. With all our moralizing and opinionizing you summarized things in a nutshell.
But allow me one last reply. If we all took the time to consider how each and every one of our behaviors was going to potentially affect our families, our neighbors, our local communities and our fellow citizens nationwide, we’d be perpetually paralyzed by inaction. Been eating too much red meat in your diet? Maybe you’ll have a heart attack and be carted off to an emergency room supported, in part, by my tax dollars. The logical conclusion of these sorts of arguments is utter ridiculousness. Frankly, it’s not the sort of timorous, chicken-hearted life I choose to live.
Somehow, eating too much red meat just doesn't seem to me to be in the same league as promoting sexual practices known to be extremely unsafe.
Yes, if we worry about every little warning that comes down the pike, we would be frozen by inaction; however, if we ignore warnings that have credence and which are easily acted upon, then we are just plain irresponsible - to others as well as to ourselves.
A facial cum shot is probably relatively safe. Eating cum is certainly less safe. And bareback anal sex is extremely unsafe.
I will not purchase newly produced bareback videos from any production company making them.
I thought my prior response would be my last on this subject, but I must submit this. I am NOT talking about being worried about warnings. You miss the point. I am talking about worrying about what possible effects MY own individual behavior might have on others. If I get plastered and hop into my car, the possibility of me injuring someone else is a fairly direct connection. Linking my enjoyment of a bareback DVD at home to raging increases in AIDS cases nationwide is less than tenuous, IMHO. HDK people and actors they employ are responsible for their behavior. As I said, bareback sex is obviously unsafe. You can suit yourself about buying only “relatively safe” sex videos and DVDs. But a 2001 a CDC funded study (http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/pubs/facts/oralsexqa.htm) reported a possible 7.8% HIV transmission rate for gay men who had exclusively oral sex. Perhaps you should consider not renting or buying any gay porn, given your concerns. Now I plan to stop this line of discussion because I feel my behavior is directly affecting others by helping to take all the fun out of this topic.
The risk of HIV/AIDS infection via oral transmission is not in swallowing, it is the transfer of live virus in semen directly to blood through cuts and blood seepage in the mouth and especially the gums. The HIV/AIDS virus is killed by both stomach acids and saliva.
