Most of the time the pictures used for boxcovers or stills weren't taken during the scene. They are taken before the scene to make sure they can get good angles, focus, and have the performers looking their best before they become messed up during the scene. Also, it makes it easier to concentrate of shooting the scene once in begins without having to worry about getting still pics while trying to shoot. So when they shoot the pic before the scenes they try to recreate all the stuff they plan to happen in the scene but when they actually shoot it things might change.
^^ Okay so they shoot certain positions and sex acts they may not be in the scene. Are these sex acts happening or are they just posing for them? I remember watching some of the BTS on dogfartnetwork and I have seen pics being taken while the sex act is going on, but they also shown girls just posing in a certain position but they usually be like kind of softcore shots where the girl is looking into the camera and not really doing anything just pretending to do the sex act. But the Jennifer White stills I seen she was actually rimming him. And if things change during the shoot then I'm guessing that the performers decided not to do certain things they were asked to do for stills... Or did the director tell them not to or was it just cut? I have heard performers say certain sex acts they have done in scenes before get cut. ^ Just to be clear, sometimes the pics are taken during the filming but most times I don't think they are. I guess it depends on the shoot and/or director. When the pic are taken the guy is erect and penetrating the girl but they more concerned with getting the pictures in the poses more than anything else. So it's sex as far as penetration or whatever but they aren't really going at it, they're only doing enough to make the shots look real and/or good. I know this is/was the practice at the bigger studios but for smaller films they might take pics as they shoot or even just take stills from the actual footage since everything is shot in HD these days. It might only happen at studios that distribute DVDs. But I have seen the pics being taken before the shoot various times BTS and in documentaries.
