Why are so many scenes filmed in hotel rooms? Wouldn't it be cheaper to shoot in the director's house, or in the studio offices?

There were a couple of series shot in the studio offices, and believe me a hotel room would be much more posh and nicer looking than that particular studios offices.

I don't think we can assume that all director's have a mansion. Some may even live in places that are kept up as well as their offices.

I've actually seen very few scenes that looked like they were shot in a hotel room. The ones that were often had them fit into the plot that way or seemed like they were there to give a "dirtier" feel to the scenes. The main ones I saw that were shot in hotel rooms seemed to be shot during the adult conventions when the director would bring the girls up to his room and it was supposed to appear like a "spur of the moment" scene. I think most of the hotel room scenes I've watched have been Jules Jordan, and they seemed to help the primal feel of his scenes.

But with a hotel room, someone else gets to do the clean up!

Hotel rooms set the correct mood, everybody knows
what goes on in motel/hotels.

Hotel rooms are cheap. Often set locations can range from $250 into the thousands because the production company/director are renting that space. An average hotel room is $50-100.

I often see hotel rooms in more gonzo or wall-to-wall videos rather than the story driven. Also in the truer amateur video tapes, both hetero and gay.

My guess is there are several other reasons that haven't been mentioned before:

- It's more comforting to new talent to show up at a hotel/motel where there are others around than show up at some address in San Fernando or Van Nuys on blind faith.

- It's harder to get lost or be late if the shoot is somewhere that's easy to find. At least you can call the hotel and get directions.

- You go where the talent is, not where you want the talent to go. Again, easier to get people to perform if there's less chance they'll flake or get lost.

- You're less likely to get in trouble with the law or your neighbors if you're not filming in the same place every time and if you're in a place where people won't freak out over the sounds of people having sex. Not to mention there's plenty of places to park!

I could be totally wrong, but that's what comes to mind...
