Can someone tell me how bad customs are. I have ordered 2 dvd's from adult dvd 2000 they go to a lot of hassle to get you your films stuff like no box, cover they mark it computer software. So do I stand a good chance of getting my films. What do customs look out for.

As long as the package isn't heavy/big and either has a customs label showing that it's software you should be ok. I have received about 5 orders from [url=138595]www.adultdvdnow.com</A who send the covers with the discs in a plain envelope. Just last week I had a package (sent by [url=466307]www.dvdsxxxrated.com)</A seized by customs though, but that was most probably because the package contained too many discs and as such, was too heavy and bulky in size. I've received upto 10 in an envelope before now but I think upto 5 or 6 discs should get through no problem.

I bought some through [url=466306]http://www.adultmoviesbest.com,</A they came in a few days. Their customer service is good too, but they won't send the covers or boxes.

I have ordered about 10 from the US over the last year. I have got them sent 1 at a time though from a mail order place. I got to know the guy that runs it as when I go to the States on vacation, I buy from him (cheaper than retail) and he ships them to where I am staying.
He puts the disc in a plastic cover, then pops it inside 1/2 of a US computer magazine and sends it via one of the express postal systems that the normal US Post Office use. Marks it as a computer magazine so if they "feel" package they think "PC mag. with cover disc" - or so the theory goes. Costs an extra $7 but if he sends them at the weekend, I have them waiting for me when I get home on a Friday.
If you get a letter from the Customs to say they have seized it, do not take the chance of importing any again for about a year - seriously!! Customs have greater powers than the Police and can enter your house, without a court order, if they just suspect.
I know someone who got 3 letters from them and kept on ignoring them, then they turned up in the early hours one day, and went through his house. He had kept receipts for all the ones he had brought in and sold on, was done BIG time, not a nice time.

Lou, couldn't you ask adultmoviesbest to mail you the covers in a seperate packet, a week or so later? Just putting them in an A4 envelope with perhaps a few random bits of paper should get them through customs without problem (what's it going to be, 10 pieces of paper? hardly big enough to be a porn mag or something). Then you can just buy empty DVD cases locally and you're set.
Since I've ordered single units, and they're for personal use, I can import whatever I like into Australia, I've just asked adultdvdnow to remove them from the cases to make the parcel less likely to have the discs come loose in transit. I'll still get the covers in the same parcel, though.
Do they search your bags when coming and going from France?
Good luck guys,
Janitor

Just had my package from dvdsxxxrated (now dvdadvantage) seized by UK customs, all they could say in their reply to my E-Mail was 'Some packages get seized ...' and they ended their E-Mail 'Have a nice day'. How do they expect me to have a nice day when I've just wasted £50. There was no offer of resending part of my order as mentioned in an earlier post by CrumpetMan. Did they resend - CrumpetMan never updated the forum!

Mike63, I think your best bet for ordering dvds from the UK would be [url=138595]www.adultdvdnow.com</A
I've just recieved my second order from them, and they were shipped, without boxes, 6 to each Global Priority Envelope. They just go through with the normal mail.
They are also unmarked as far as customs decs, etc, since they appear to be a bunch of tightly folded documents in the envelope.
I have no idea about what you can do in your situation with dvdadvantage, but I can reccomend [url=138595]www.adultdvdnow.com</A for any future orders you might make. Since they will beat others' prices, the only reason I can see to order from anyone else would be because they don't stock a specific title. (They don't seem to stock Tip Top product, for example.)
well, good luck in the future...

scipio,
I have received two packages already from adultmoviesbest (Xonair) and one from adultdvdnow. I think you are right stick with the companies that deliver discretely.
Thanks

Sorry I never posted an update! Ok, here's what happened...
I originally ordered about 10 DVDs (I know it's a lot but I've got that many through from adultdvdnow before). I received an email informing me that the order had been shipped. A week later I order another 9 or 10 (the prices were so cheap, I just had to!). A few days later I received an email informing me that the order had been shipped. After sometime I hadn't received anything and emailed dvdxxxrated to find out what was going on. They told me that they had actually shipped both orders together. This was not what I expected, especially as they charged me for two lots of shipping. And, customs seized that order. Dvdxxxrated then agreed to resend 10 DVDs from my orders - 5 at time. The first 5 got through, the next 5 got seized. So, if you're ordering from outside the US, don't use dvdxxxrated (now dvdadvantage).
In my case they would not accept that they were in the wrong in shipping both orders as one single order. Because of the way they did this I ended up paying more in shipping costs. If I had ordered the first lot of dvds when I ordered the second lot, then I would have saved more as they had discounted the prices inbetween me placing the two orders.
It's fair enough that they're not responsible for UK customs but they should not combine orders to save themselves shipping costs.
Since ordering with them I have gone back to ordering from adultdvdnow and have had no problems whatsoever. I can't stress enough that for any international customers you really should use adultdvdnow. It's just not worth the risk of ordering from anywhere else. All the international shipping costs are pretty much the same, and adultdvdnow beat the lowest price by $1 and I believe they have a 100% success rate for getting dvds through customs.

Crumpetman's right, the only way to go if you are importing to the UK is with AdultDvdNow.There are no customs stickers on the envelope so i assume they come through as regular mail.I had a package seized from AdultMoviesBest and didn't know until i got a letter from customs 2 months later.

I'd go along with recommending [url=466276]www.adultdvdnow.com.</A
I've had over 50 discs from them in the past 5 months and only 3 have never arrived. They have been good enough to offer to resend the missing discs. I originally ordered 6, which they split into two lots of 3 for shipping & sent them at the same time. Got half of the shipment but the other half vanished.
Just waiting for them to resend the discs.
As far as customer service goes, they're excellent.
They'll also replace faulty discs without question, as long as you send the original back.
Recommended them to a friend of mine & he's well on his way to a big collection already.
The only drawback with adultdvdnow is that their catalogue isn't as extensives as, say, Excalibur's or DVD Empire's.
They havn't got titles such as Penetrator 2 or Phoenix rising available.
Guess I'll have to pick these up in the US myself.

I have also lost orders to customs. Anything shipped by courier or has a Customs Declaration is subject to inspection.
I have been using [url=138595]www.adultdvdnow.com</A for the last 6 months with a 100% success rate. They will also beat any lowest price by $1, just let them know where you saw it cheaper. I have recently bought some Metro titles for $7.95!! each. Another supplier that I have used successfully is [url=466304]www.dvdextreme.com.</A They have a fast turnaround and offer the same discrete service as adultdvdnow. They also tend to have a wider selection and shipping costs are a bit cheaper. Try a small order first.

Let me clear up a few things for UK DVD buyers. It is illegal for residents in the UK to import adult materials. Obviously though, what HM Customs does not know, won't hurt them,or you, but the confiscation notices should be taken seriously. If you start getting 2-3 notices, it may be time to hold off for at least a few months.
Our company sends a limited number of disks in an envelope, which completely avoids customs. No declaration is used. The hope is, the package is treated like a letter, and not subject to inspection. Some companies declare the package, but they declare the contents as something they are not. The problem here is, when a package has a declaration, it is subject to inspection. It could be a random inspection, or, perhaps the package looks fishy, in which case, customs will open it and send you a confiscation notice. Furthermore, customs keeps a record of the sender, so future packages will be subject to increased occurances of inspection.
The bottom line, when ordering adult dvds, you are taking a risk. There is no "best way" of sending this material to the UK, but we feel the "letter" method with no declaration is the best so far. We always tell our customers to order no more than 3 disks per order. This keeps the letter thin, so it does not start looking like a package. We have found that 5 or more disks per envelope greatly increases the chances of inspection and confiscation.
We find some customers become over-confident due to their past experience. They start ordering more disks per package/order. Remember, the risk is always present. Each time you order, the risk is the same. It does not decrease just because you have received packages before.
One more hint, always, always give the most complete address.
I hope this e-mail sheds light on the ever present UK importation problems.
Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

A bit off topic I know, but I placed an order at Adultdvdnow on Sunday afternoon and received the DVDs this morning! That is a record for me, four days for an international order! Sometimes letters sent within this country don't get to their destination within that time frame.
Also, many thanks to Jay for posting here. It's good to see the e-tailers taking such a genuine interest and concern for their customers.

Hi, i keep reading about how good the delivery times are and how good they are at actually getting dvd's through to the uk....but...they dispatched a dvd on Tue 11th and it hasn't arrived...other people have placed orders like a long time after this and have recieved them...d'y reckon customs just increased their own personal collection? And am I dead unlucky, first dvd i buy get's seized?! I only ordered one as well.....grrr.
(PS I accidentally created a new topic when I meant to reply to the original "how bad is ...." topic....doh! sorry.)

I've used [url=138595]www.adultdvdnow.com</A also with 100% delivery of orders.
Have used also [url=466303]www.dvdempire.com</A in the past for videos to my address in Australia, twice of which deliveries never arrived. Emailed them , they emailed back saying they don't take any responsibility for lost orders, have a nice day, so i replied saying BULLSHIT and threatend them with consumer affairs in New York. Got a swift reply saying the that the email I had received was out of order and that a relacement was on the way. It arrived.

As many of you can see from above postings, MOST of the UK orders from our company do get through. HOWEVER, I warn you all, it is not 100% full proof. UK customs occasionally opens the thicker letters which contain 3 or 4 disks. We are seeing those orders get confiscated.
Don't get overconfident from reading successful posts. Remember, we don't guarantee delivery, due to the expense, but if you order 2 or 3 dvds per order, the odds are with you. We consistently warn our customers not to order more than 3 dvds per order, but some customers get to confident and insist on stuffing 6 disks in a small envelope. The confiscation rate is drastically increased when this happens. We may loose upto 3% of these orders.
So, order small! You can always come back once you get your shipment.
Some of our UK customers ask where they can buy empty DVD Cases. Does anyone know of a few stores where they can be purchased?
Thanks.

There's a few places which do amaray cases - I usually get mine from [url=466302]www.dvdworld</A where they are £4.50 for a pack of 5.

grr...it looks like I probably got the super-enthusastic customs bloke, because I ordered one disk and it hasn't arrived yet (So I'm guessing that customs have got it, given that most people recieve their disks in 4 days, not the 16 days i've been waiting)...i ordered only 1 disk to try and avoid this
(..assuming _this_, ie, confiscation has occured)..

Just had a notice of seizure from HM Thieves & Customs about an envelope of 3 discs that got confiscated from adultdvdnow.
Looks like the 100% shipping has fallen a bit now.
Still, before I new they'd been seized , I informed them & they sent replacements which DID arrive
It appears that Jack Straw's Jackboot Brigade has twigged to the shipping method used by our esteemed friends at adultdvdnow.
gonna have to put the orders on the back burner for a while now .
Anyone have ideas on how long C & E keep records of seizures?
Will anyone else admit to having shipments from adultdvdnow confiscated?

Pasky:I think i've had a package seized by customs.I placed an order with Adultdvdnow
on April 10 and it still hasn't arrived.
No seizure letter yet but my last one took
2 months to arrive.Adultdvdnow didn't replace
mine as with yours, but they did give me a 35
dollar credit on a returned faulty disc.
I assumed if it didn't have a customs sticker
on it they didn't see it,wrong obviously.
Maybe customs monitor these pages and we shot ourselves in the foot

Wow, all this talk is getting me scared!
I first got 3 movies from AMB, they arrived by UPS fine, did the same a couple of months later for 5 discs.
Now I've just ordered another 6... should get here in the next week, if not, I'll be shitting myself...
AMB package things OK though- it's put inside two sealed envelopes, and each disc is put into a little plastic case. They're declared as HP printer drivers, but I think customs will be wondering what I want with all that...
Funny thing is, I walk down Soho and see all these sex shops, but they wanna take my porn... silly buggers...

UK Customs is starting to get tough on packages coming into the UK. THey are now doing raids on letters 1-2 times a month. Our success rate has fallen to about 98%! Still not bad, but we would rather have a fail safe method.
We will be working on other methods of shipping, starting in June. For now though, if a person orders 2-3 disks, per order, the success rate is close to 100%. For some reason if you order just one disk, or 4 or more, the risk of confiscation goes up, probably because those letters don't really feel like letters!
So, to be on the safe side, order 2 or 3 titles, per order. No more and no less.
Thank you.

Big Dunc: I'm not sure if HM Thieves & Customs monitor this forum, but I'm pretty sure they keep thir eyes out on usenet. A few people have dropped hints on the NGs there how adultdvdnow ship their discs to the UK. Silly buggers! They should just keep their yaps shut! No point in making Customs' job any easier.
By the way, I only informed adultdvdnow that my discs hadn't arrived. I had no idea that they'd been seized. A month after the replacements arrived, I got the notice of seizure. It took them 2 months to let me know that they'd confiscated them. The wheels of beauraucracy grind on ever so slowly.

How many times, do you guys think, that we can tick off customs before they decide to get medieval on our ass?
I've currently had a batch of stuff taken by customs and recieved a warning stating that if I import anymore with knowledge that this is illegal, they'll fine me big time.
So what I was wanting to know was, how many times will they warn me before they decide to get unpleasant?
Thanks!

The suppliers above seem pretty good for getting porn mailed to the UK, but they dont have the biggest selection of DVD's.
I recently asked Excalibur if they can send stuff to the UK unlabeled as a letter as you suggested above. They replied that they could send material unlabeled but they have to include a customs label.
What do you guys think the chances are of receiving stuff in the UK from Excalibur (Im only talking about 1 DVD)?

I haven't ordered from them myself - if someone overseas has ordered from them then it would be handy for them to post and let us know. However, if it has a customs label on the envelope then the chances of it being inspected are far far far greater. Even if they just put a label stating the contents is "software cd". The DVDs which were sent to be by xxxrateddvd.com (now dvdadvantage) were labelled in this way - and they were seized.

I placed an order with Excalibur but cancelled it after hearing about these letters you get sent.
I cant be dealing with that stuff. If I order porn DVD's from the states I wanna be as sure as I can that UK customs wont get at them. Excalibur doesn't seem like a sure bet. For now I will stick to places that dispatch from within the UK.
By the way, what are you meant to do when you get one of these letters?

The letters you get sent are only warnings.
It states what they got and tells you not to do it again.
First offence really, but I've currently gotten two of such letters.
I wonder how many can you get before they decide to fine you?
I also heard that customs are now currently under a anti-adult material operation and are literally searching EVERY package.
Does anyone know anything about this?

I ordered 2 DVDs from AdultDVDNow on 12th May and have still not received them. I don't know if this is due to increase in inspections but every time I have ordered from the States I have had seizure notice. I think I'm gonna give up. I have heard that reliable suppliers of DVDs are becoming readily available in UK operating from another country but which despatch from within the UK thus avoiding the customs problem. There was a glimmer of hope for us Brits last week however with the allowance of R18 certificates to be officially sold in shops...at least its a start! Maybe a national opinion vote on the subject may be in order..

The confiscation rate is currently running about 3%. This is up from 1% last year, as customs is opening up a few letters every month. However, this means 97% are still getting through every day.
We at Adult DVD Now ship without the customs label. This gives you the best possible chance of getting your shipment.
We are also looking into new methods of sending these items to the UK. At this time, we are sending out experimental shipments to a few customs to get some feedback. The results thus far have been very good. We believe we will have a new method within about 2-3 weeks, which will offer 100% success rate.
Thank you

Either I must be the most unlucky person in the world at the moment or Customs are searching a lot more than 3 in every 100 packages sent by adultdvdnow. I don't know where you get your feedback from Jay but maybe people getting seizure notices just dont bother telling you???
But at least you are trying to help us Brits which is very kind...thankyou!

Seeing as it's now legal to buy "proper" adult material in the UK, would it be OK to import material from abroad now?

Woohoo: I kinda doubt it. The R18 films sold in sex shops may show a little more than was previously permitted, but they are still cut to shreds when compared to the original versions.
I wouldn't bother wasting your time and money on them.
As far as I know, only 2 companies ship from within the UK. vidshop.com and yourchoice.com but their prices for DVDs are extortionate.
I've been lucky so far with our friends at adultdvdnow, but since I haven't ordered for about a month or two, I'm not sure what the odds are on having my next shipment seized, Guess I'll give it a rest for about six months until things settle down, or Jay lets us know whether the new shipping method is more reliable.

The following was posted on usenet recently:
Besides if anything gets stopped by those sad lonely out-of-date
wankers in Customs just complain as they won't take you to court
anymore, not after the recent ruling on H/C porn in this
country. I know this to be true, as I did recently have some
stopped and threatened to take legal action... strangely the
disks arrived two days later. Customs rely on the British attitude of not making a fuss.
Perhaps if we start to challenge them when they steal our discs they will eventually stop doing it.

ees- I think whoever posted that message on usenet is living in a fantasy world.
The reality is that you have two options when you receive a notice of seizure from British Customs. Either appeal against the seizure via a solicitor, then the case would be heard in a Magistrates Court. Or accept Customs' decision and allow the discs to be destroyed. Any letters of complaint are likely to be ignored. At best they might send an explanation about why they consider the DVDs to be obscene.
If you went to court and won (unlikely), the Magistrate would insist on Customs paying their own court costs. You, however, would almost certainly have to pay your legal fees. Unless you were entitled to Legal Aid your costs would be in excess of £1000. An expensive day out!
Winning a case in a Magistrates Court does not set any precedent. Customs could easily confiscate the next shipment and then you're back to square one.
If you went to court and lost the case the magistrate would award costs against you, so you pay your own legal fees plus those of Customs and any fine the magistrate decided to impose. Magistrates almost always find in favour of their friends at Customs & Excise,
so Customs know that they can't lose by going to a Magistrates Court.
You would stand a far better chance of success if the case was heard in a Crown Court because juries tend to be far more sensible than magistrates. Some of them might even be porn fans :-) This is the only occasion where Customs would be nervous about persuing a case mainly because of the cost involved and their chances of success diminish. The cost of losing in a Crown Court can be astronomical.
The recent victory by a U.K. distributor over the British Board of Film Classification(BBFC) doesn't change a single thing as far as Customs are concerned. The 18R tapes in this case were NOT hardcore at all. Just slightly more explicit than the versions which get an 18 rating in the U.K.(i.e no pop shots).
For a more informed view of the current legal situation regarding porn in the U.K. I would recommend the following website: [url=466301]http://www.dtaylor.demon.co.uk</A
He has all the latest news on censorship cuts, court cases and loads more useful info.
I hope this post clarifies the situation.
Be careful out there. -Wanderer

Regarding the comments from Pasky about the cost of ordering from U.K. based retailers. I would've thought £30-35 a disc is a price worth paying if the DVDs are brand-new sealed originals.
Let's face it, the odds are that you will lose quite a few shipments from the States to British Customs so in the long term it could work out cheaper to pay inflated U.K. prices. All your Customs worries would then be over.

£30-35 per disc? That is sooo expensive. If that was the only way I could get DVDs then I just wouldn't bother. There's plenty of porn available on VCD and the new DVD stuff gets onto VCD pretty quick too.

Yes, I agree that £30-35 a DVD is expensive but for those people who've already received several confiscation notices it may be an option worth considering. Keep ignoring those letters and eventually customs will pounce!
Personally I would rather watch VHS than VCD.

Hi,
I also used Amazingtails back last October until I lost an order to Customs. They used to use Fedex which meant they were more likely to be inspected and if the package got through I had to pay Duty and VAT as well. When I contacted them about my lost order they ignored my email and that was the last time I used them. It was a $120 lesson I learned the hard way, having paid for the Delivery Guarantee service as well.
Be careful with their Delivery Guarantee, they clearly state they are not liable for loss due to Customs, only during transit and I think I fell foul of this.
Since then I have used AdultDVDNow with no problems thanks to the support of Jay and his colleagues.
Amazingtails may have changed their policy since I used them last, but I will stay with AdultDVDNow which offers a wider selection and a low price guarantee.
Regards

Hello fellow UK customers.
Some of you have probably seen my posts before on ADT. I am more a less, the president of the company, and want to make sure that every single e-mail is answered in a timely manner. We recently hired Frank, to help with the customer service. He comes from another trusted adult dvd site and brings a wealth of experience.
I just want to let everyone know, it is our goal to make sure everyone gets their shipment, no matter where they live. If anyone feels they are not getting quality service from us, then please e-mail me personally! jbarron@adultdvdnow.com
Regarding international shipments, we recently started a new method of shipping to foreign destinations. So far, during the last few weeks, we have seen 100% success, but it has only been a few weeks. The new method is much more expensive, so we had to raise our shipping prices for international orders to cover the cost. We are monitoring the situation closely and keep you all informed on a monthly basis.
Again, let me know if you have any questions

Not too bothered about the increase in shipping Jay old chap, as long as it works is fine with me.
Better than paying £25-£30 per disc plus shipping from the UK sites.
Your system still works out to be more of a bargain (unless we adopt the Euro as our currency !!!!!)
