I am curious about the "casting calls"?
Does the director contact the modelling agency and ask for certain girls with specifi ations for their films? I guess what I'm asking is, for example if the director is making "Big Tit Lesbian Nymphos" does he/she ask the modelling ageny for any girls with big tits that do lesbo or is there an "order sheet" where he can check the boxes and get exactly what he wants.
Or do they meet a bunch of potential actresses and then weed out the undesirables. (< bad choice of words, maybe "non-needed").

And what do you do with personality conflicts. If actress A and actress B meet and the wrong sparks fly do you try and find someone else that one will work with or do you tell them to suck it up and get through the scene. (Might be a new genre' for porn)

Someone should write a "Porn Movies for Dummies" book.

All I know is I find it odd that directors/studios dont get some of the obvious pairings and movies right. If directors/studios wants to do whats best for business and the fans they would start giving the fans what they want or at least do the obvious. Some performers have been wanting to work together for years and I know havent been afraid to voice it on social media or throughout the industry but directors wont book them. I get there are other factors in it as well, for example, Kira Noir was talking on Holly Randall podcast (go check it out and other shows by Holly because they are great), how her idol is Skin Diamond and she was scheduled to do a scene with her but because of her agency testing process and the date of the scene, it messed up the opportunity for Kira to do the scene and thus they had to find a replacement for her. The performer to replace Kira was Ana Foxxx. Kira said she never got to work with Skin because she retired soon after that. Since Kira has been with Spiegler she never had a problem with missing scenes due to testing and she is always ready but that one time with a different agency hurt her chances to do a scene with her idol Skin. So there are different factors, but in general I think directors need to get it right when they are casting so they can produce more great to even epic scenes than times than not.

Let me first preface that I have nothing to do with the porn industry and the following is just me speculating on how most producers/directors hire performers. I will only discuss performers who are represented by agencies.

I suspect that most producers/directors simply contact the agency who represents the performer they want to hire for a scene and arrange the schedule, remuneration and travel arrangements(if needed) with the agency. I highly doubt that chemistry comes into the discussion because the vast majority of the women who shoot lesbian porn don't have sex with women in their private life and simply do lesbian porn because it's easy money and it's almost a must if they want any decent porn career.

The only thing that might get discussed is if a performer has a no list related to certain female performers but somehow I don't think too many of them have one.

^Yep. This is basically right so far as I know. You have to keep in mind that porn is a high volume business these days and nobody really has time for "getting to know you" sessions.

There's one other part to what has been mentioned above.

There is a common industry practice called a "go see" which is where an agent takes their new girls to various studios to introduce them to the various directors so that the directors will keep them in mind the next time they want to book a girl.

This is better than the director just looking at tons of random pictures. If the director has actually met a girl and has been impressed not only with her looks but also with her personality/professionalism, then they are more likely to book that girl.

Note: this is not on the day of shooting a scene. Usually the girls meet the directors so they can be booked in the future. Just wanted to make that clear.

To be fair, there also used to be a practice of some directors booking a performer during a go-see (as in, during the go-see, the producer tells the agent they want to hire her for a scene that day, and then shooting it), but I think that practice has mostly died out over the past 5-10 years.

Also, chemistry does matter to some producers, but scheduling and favorites matter more. Most producers of boy/girl porn have their favorite preferred male performers, so most of their scenes are gonna feature those performers even if the woman has stated a desire to work with a certain male performer. Just a simple example, no matter how much a performer may want to work with, say Mick Blue, if it's a Brazzers scene, the male performer is likely to be Kieran or Xander or any of Brazzers' other studs. There's also a matter of scheduling, especially since the most popular male and female performers are gonna be booked up weeks/months in advance, so it might be hard to get their schedules to line up correctly to shoot together. And all this applies to girl/girl performers/scenes as well.

Basically, sometimes there's a reason your faves haven't worked together, and it's not just because no one is listening.

^I'm curious about what you wrote. Can you name me one studio/director/producer who gives a rats ass about chemistry and it shows in their product because I can't think of a single one that does that. I would really like to check out their content to see if it's me who doesn't see it.

Now maybe it's my idea of what chemistry is. To me chemistry means that the two performers are into each other and that we will see a level of passion/intensity that you normally don't see when they are paired with other performers but to be blunt with you. I don't think a single studio/director/producer cares about chemistry because the vast majority of the porn made today is gonzo in nature and chemistry is usually irrelevant in a gonzo shoot as it's mostly about the flash and less about the substance. The best you can hope for is comfortability between the performers and a level of acting/pretending to be into each other that translates into pseudo-chemistry.

A single studio?

Girlsway's Dream Pairings, IIRC. Again, it's not something that any studio always does, but there are some studios (or more to the point, some directors/producers) that do try to take it into account when booking scenes. Also, whatever you're calling pseudo-chemistry is still chemistry. It's not as white hot as maybe you're expecting it to be, but it's still a level of familiarity and comfort with the other performers that makes it easier to make a good scene.

Also, the idea that chemistry is irrelevant in a gonzo shoot, I don't agree with it at all.

I've always wondered about this type of stuff...

So, is the male talent usually booked first? It would seem that it would actually harder to book certain male talent because there are few guys and they're far more busy. Is the male talent booked first and then when the girl is picked she's asked if she wants to work with him? Is the girl ever asked if she has a performer she wants to work with? Does the director go in wanting specific girls or does agent say here are the available girls and then push certain girls over others?

Also...when a girl doesn't have something like anal, IR, DP or whatever on their "do" list can a director tell the agent they'd be willing to pay that girl X amount if she does do something she doesn't have listed?

Are you referring to GW "Dream Pairing" series that was last updated in 2017 and has only 18 videos spread out over two years? If yes, then can you tell me which of those videos had actual chemistry? If not, then can you give me a few example of GW videos where you are think there is visible chemistry?

To me Girlsway is one of the more obvious example of a studio who doesn't care about chemistry or more precisely wish they could care but can't because the vast majority of the models they hire will never be comfortable in their scenes because they don't have sex with women in their private life and can't fake it well enough on screen to appear to like women. What is even more frustrating for someone like me is that even when they hire performers who can be comfortable with women and have chemistry with other women. They usually pair them with someone who isn't and the scene that had potential is still a bust. It probably doesn't help that so many of their lesbian scenes are badly shot.

The reason why I wrote that chemistry is usually irrelevant in gonzo is that most of those types of videos and I include most of the artcore style one as well is that comfortability is really all that is needed because there is almost no chance of seeing any kissing or foreplay between the performers. It's basically a semi-nude or all nude woman blowing her already hard partner before he fucks her in various positions and in one or more of her openings for about 35 minutes.

^^Strangely enough. I think you are correct because the number of male performers is significantly smaller than female performers so if you don't have a male already booked then it doesn't matter which female you want. It's also important to have the male booked first because he may be on the woman's no list and you need to know that before booking the woman. I think that's why some studio like to hire the same male talent or offer them exclusive contracts to save them from having to find a male to work with the female model they are planning to book for a shoot.

You seem to have a definition of chemistry that means that if the performers weren't visibly madly in love with each other, there was no chemistry. That's not what chemistry means. The comfortability is chemistry, no matter how much you keep trying to say otherwise.

Also, as far as I've know, they book both performers at the same time. They plan out a scene (including all performers), and then book the talent at the same time, and it's supposed to be an agent's job when booking to know their performer's "no lists" and check if the person they're booked with is on it. If the male performer is someone they have to book months in advance, then they plan out the whole scene and book the female performer months in advance as well. It doesn't actually make much sense to just randomly book one of the performers, and then fill in the other one at a later date, when you can do it all at once and have it be a lot less hassle.
