From what I have heard, you should get an attractive girlfriend and go into it together.
But...what do I know?

What the hell for and why now when there isn't much work for anyone? Be an escort where you can at least use condoms and probably make more money too.

May I ask the original poster why he wants to get into porn? Is it the desire to have sex with many women, or to make money, or because he likes the porn industry scenario?

To get into the American industry and come to the US and shoot, you will need a US ID.
Foreign performers using foreign ID for American productions on US soil is not allowed under US law.

I think it's generally accepted that for males, with rare exceptions, there are two ways you can get into porn.
1. start in gay porn, get noticed for your big cock, ability to get hard and stay hard at any moment, and ability to cum (a big load) on command, and then make the transition to the straight porn market.
2. bring a super-hot girlfriend to the biz who will only work with you; then after a while when you get noticed for your big cock, ability to get hard and stay hard at any moment, and ability to cum (a big load) on command, you start getting work fucking other girls.

I have the same thoughts as the original poster. I'm 26, Caucasian, live in southern California between LA and San Diego. My motivations are sex and to just have a good time. Money isn't much of an issue with me. Who do I contact?

Have a very large penis that gets hard and cums to order.
With this, doors are sure to open.

Hands down, today? You need to shoot it yourself, and put the material out well enough and often enough that other people start taking notice. Invariably, that will require the long term partnership of a female partner.
As asked earlier; if you're just looking to be with hot girls, it'd be far less expensive and time consuming to simply find escorts. They'll actually care (or at least appear to care) about how you feel in the process; porn shoots can take five hours of your day, for sometimes as little as 20 minutes of sex, that is rarely as exciting as it looks. Those five hours (usually during working hours) mean you *arent* working a 9-5 day job that could otherwise afford you the chance to indulge in sexual fantasies that could be far more enjoyable than the reality of shooting porn.

All this talk about how tough a job porn is for the studs makes me want to laugh.
You know how insanely great porn is for the guys? How about the fact that, once they're in, they never fucking leave?
I realize that porn is work. And, I'm sure, not always fun.
And, there's no question that the skill-set and stamina to film porn is demanding.
But, seriously, a decent stud earns a living wage (and, I'm guessing, probably significantly more than he would earn outside of porn).
There is an opportunity to fuck attractive women and make a living doing it.
The best studs are fucking girls like Jenna Haze for Christ's sake.
The girls are tested for HIV and STDs on a regular basis, and the studio books them for you.
Honestly, if you're one of the endowed, have the necessary skills, aptitude and managed to get through the door and employed, its got to be a wonderful life.

Did you read my post above yours? Are you willing and/or able to do one of those two things? If not, don't even ask. If so, then maybe we can point you in the right direction.
Hey everybody wants to do something. That's what they wanna do. Also remember that some people are willing to climb some undesirable stepping stones to get to where they wanna be (fucking Jenna Haze in the ass ).

I have an offer... I know a director that will use a new guys if they can prove they can get the job done...
This is what is necessary...
(1) get 10 guys together in a room
(2) you get fully naked in front of those 10 guys - 1 of them films it.
(3) get yourself hard without any help or visual aids
(4) cum in 16 minutes
(5) aim it onto and cum onto a CD plastic cover without missing it.
All without any women or porn around. If you can do that I will give you an address to send it to and he says he will use any guy that can do that -- they have to get themselves to LA and pay for the AIM test. The video has to be raw and cannot be stopped or edited in anyway and it has to be wide shots so there's no cheating going on....
This isnt a joke. Most guys think they can but really cant.
There are so many factors. Stamina and size are two. Load size is another. Ability to get erect and maintain is 4 and 5. And finally are you pleasant to work with and do the girls want to work with you.
If a guy fails, it costs the production company money, possibly a lot of money. Between make-up artists, kill fees, location fees, permit fees, crew fees, a flaccid penis can cost a company more than $1000 maybe even $2000. Its pressure.
I give a lot of credit to male performers. I have been on a lot of sets and its not a job I would want.

I think you (Red Faz) would be better off carrying on doing what most guys do, jerk off and fantasize. For all the guys in the world who think they can be in porn, you keep seeing the same faces in movies. As girls come and go, the guys just age, It's hard to find studs that are well hung, can last 25-30 mins and drop a load to order. If you had a chance to fuck Jenna Haze in the ass, the chances are you can't get wood because of the film crew or when the director tells you to bunny-fuck her in the ass you wouldn't last a minute. Sorry to piss in your box of fireworks Red Faz just being realistic, there again I might be wrong, good luck in trying Red and if you do make it, Let me know because someone's got to do it.

This has the ring of truth to me.
I would also contact the companies and let them know of your interest, and say, "I know I can do this, and I'm prepared to do my first scene for free just to prove it. I'm also prepared to work on short notice."
When some punk fails to show up (or deliver the goods), you might just get the call.

^ I doubt it. When some punk doesn't show up, they'll call someone who they know can get the job done. On any given day I'm sure they can find a few male talent that aren't working that morning or afternoon or whatever. And I'm positive they'd rather hire someone they know will get the job done, and pay him $400-600, than take a change on some random newbie who they don't have to pay, but if he fucks things up then they're out all their other costs for the day which will probably run them $1000-2000.
It just wouldn't make sense for them to take that chance.
The only way I could see a guy 'having a chance' is if he did one of those fuck-a-fan type shoots, and the producers noticed that he's got a big cock, the ability to get hard and stay hard at any moment, and the ability to cum (a big load) on command.
Oh, especially if the porn girl he fucks tells the producers he did a great job. Then maybe after the shoot he might be able to approach them and say "so guys, what do you think of letting me try a scene on a normal shoot"?
Maybe that could happen. I guess. But offering to do a scene for free... I just can't see it.

No that wouldnt happen. I have another director that was (is) willing to shoot new male talent if they would put their money where their mouth (penis) is -- so to say.
The new guy deposits $2000 with the director. If he fails, his money goes to pay for all the kill fees and costs of the shoot. If he can get the job done, he gets his money back and he gets paid a $300 talent fee. So far not ONE guy was willing to risk $2000 to make $300.

I think forget being talent for someone studio....do it yourself.
Ed Powers did it, why not you? High range consumer HD camcorders are getting very good results these days.
Start a website called 'i fucked a pornstar' and sell downloads or mail out the dvds.
Of course it will be real amateur, and theres a market for that (especially in the UK).
Someone mentioned escorts. These porn girls charge a fortune. Cheaper to hire them as a director.
Shoot in a hotel room. No need to hire expensive locations...this is amateur. Shoot in daylight with natural light...looks better anyway. Just avoid sun glare.
Don't take too much viagra...it makes it harder to cum. You'll be jerking off over the girls face for half an hour.
Forget about getting rich. First target is to recoup the money you spent. If it doesn't work out you will at least have your own personal porn collection to wank over for the next xxx years.
I've been pondering having a go myself (i have already sold some amateur dvds i filmed with prostitutes) but i'd need more legal info about shooting abroad.
1. If i shoot in the US, yet edit and sell from the UK, what US laws do i need to follow. Am i technically working in the US?
2. What do the talent agencies need to hire their girls (apart from hard cash)? What stops any guy off the street walking through their door and asking to film a starlet he has a crush on?
I understand the concerns about personal safety. I'd allow a girl to bring a friend. Maybe give her friend $200 to hold a camera while she's there!

Men are the also-ran of porn.
If you have shit male talent in a movie, with excellent female talent - the movie will sell.
Have shit female talent in a movie, and the best male talent in the business and you won't make a dime.
Nobody gives a shit about the men - in short.
As someone said, if u have a hot girlfriend who will only shoot with you then you may get more work from that if u perform well.
However, starting at the bottom you will likely get $100-200 a scene, doing gang bangs - so DPs - rubbing your nutsack against another mans, possibly sharing the same hole with another cock, possibly doing homo-erotic flicks & tasting male cum one way or another.
If you can get established then u may be lucky enough to do endless b/g/g scenes and get $600-$800 a scene, but it's highly unlikely you will get that far.
You will get fucking nowhere as a prima donna, so will probably have to do a lot of scene you really don't want to shoot to start with.

^that's because most of the porn posters are latently gay and hate women. This same attitude extends to large numbers of producers and directors.
And folks wonder why sales are down.

Brilliant. Exactly how many producers and directors have you met in person?
Porn production is a business. There are proven business models, with trends established by the most successful companies. Men being billed first have more to do with establishing a brand. I met Jack Napier a few months back - hell of a nice guy. If you buy one of his titles, you can get a rough idea of the kind of production you'll get out of him; quality of the production, the girls, positions, and overall feel to a movie. Guys into sex mixed with S&M can rely on titles put out by/with Jake Malone. Each male performer has his own style with a girl; some are very gentle, some are much rougher, some kiss, some dont, etc. A girl showing up on set has her own style as well, but a video using the same male performer for five scenes is going to establish a pattern that some viewers will prefer, and others wont.
Male viewers may often claim not to care about the guy talent, and that's partially true; most male viewers aren't watching the guy, he's imagining himself in the talent's shoes. Nothing shatters that fantasy faster than watching the male talent do something well outside of the fantasy of the viewer; thus a viewer who wants to get off watching a guy really pounding a girl is going to get bored pretty quickly if the guys 'making sweet gentle love.'
I have not experienced any more (or less) misogyny in porn than in the rest of the population. What I have noticed on this board, is that there are a handful of guys who seem to enjoy looking at/talking with the pretty girls, and other men simply don't fit into that system. These guys rail against 'most' men who like porn as being misogynists, and paint their own objectives as somehow more noble. In truth, most men watch porn for the same reason: we were all endowed with testicles that push enough testosterone in us to feel driven for sex. How (and on whom) is the only question.

Did you read it? The thesis is that porn production (and porn consumption) is driven by commodity; there's no inherent hatred (nor necessarily love) of women associated with commodity. My personal experience is that most people actually involved in porn production love women, and most people who rail against how evil and unfair porn is, are usually immersed in 'White Knight' syndrome. There are far less fortunate women in the world who are far more desperate for financial, medical, and nutritional assistance than adult actresses.

Yeah I read it and the fact that much of it has become a commodity, pretty much makes my point. Any asshole can shoot porn.
For example, I look for anything that Manuel Ferrara is in or directs, because there is no question that he loves women and can bring out the best of any woman that shares a scene with him.
There is another ass hole who spams this place with a new girl monthly. Within the last three months he as shot his girl of the month in or in front of a dumpster and apparently thinks that it is sexy.
I will repeat my supposition, most the porn shot today is shot and produced by people with demonstrative issues relating to their value of women and eroticism. If you are interested in dick you are either gay or at least bi-sexual. Which is ok, but don't complain about the shitty market place.
If your interest in porn begins and ends with dick, you are gay. BTW I don't have a problem with that, I just don't care to watch it.

News to me.
Never seen a straight box cover with a man as the featured performer.
If you genuinely believe that, why do the girls get paid double? Sounds a bit strange to me.

^ How about Peter North?
But, your overall point, about the lack of male IDs on porn boxcovers, is pretty much on the mark.
Hell, it's a crapshoot if the males will even be credited in the movie itself.
Some studios do a great job with IDs; most do not.
Trust me on this one.
I'm one of the IAFD editors, and I struggle to find male IDs more often than not.
I guess it helps that I can recognize quite a few studs by their cocks alone
In all seriousness, the male co-stars do matter.
Even if it's only from the stand point that, many fans have their list of males they don't want to see. If I had to guess, I'm sure this has something to do with studios not billing the male stars on the boxcovers.

Good to see some real reality brought to these kinds of conversations. I always say practically every guy in the world would sign-up if fucking on porn films was easy. It just simply isn't. I've heard it said from many male and female performers, and many directors. I think there used to be sort of a learning curve in that guys who had initial trouble performing on film, could sort of work their way out of it. I think those days are gone.
It's not to say I don't think it can be done by the average male. I suspect more can do it then most think, but for a very high percentage it can't be done. From what I can tell, porn simply isn't shot or made like most real life situations are or would be.

Personally, the problem with a $2000 deposit, is there's no shortage of directors who'd say at the end of the shoot "thanks for the try, but it's not what I'm looking for" pocket the 2 G's, and go on to publish the video anyway. I know a female performer who spent five hours on a shoot, only to be told at the end that it just 'wasn't working' and was only paid a $200 kill fee. It's one thing to put your money where your mouth is; quite another to put it in the hands of someone who stands to grand two grand from your mistakes.

You can't publish without a model release and if you sign one when you are not getting paid you are so dumb you will get ripped off by everyone you meet.
Faz, if you have a camera and a girl willing to participate you could always film yourselves for our Viewers' Wives series. You can even make some money then and plenty of British pornstars started out in there.

I posted this in a thread about male performers 6 months back.
One of your favorite female porn stars is appearing in a new movie shot by a top studio, you eagerly wait for the release only to find out she has been paired up with a male performer you really dislike. Do you watch and cringe or do you fast forward and just catch snapshots of her while you spit feathers. Lots of studio's don't list the male performers and almost never list pairings, I find this frustrating as much as I have my favorite female stars, I also have my favorite male performers.
There is nothing worse than a male performer who's not up to the job. I'm sure we all like to see our favorite hot babe fucked in a way we would like to do it, If it doesn't happen it's a real let down. That's why it's so important to have experience and quality in the male who's doing the fucking, if it wasn't important we would be all watching a solo girls with toys. Going back to what I said earlier in this thread, to become a male star (yes star) you have got to be fit/toned, look cool and able to hold back, then cum to order. Of course the best chance you will ever have is if you know, or know someone who knows someone in the business.

Agreed. However, I do not know one guy that is willing to bet 2 G's on his penis. The the director is making the point that the new guy who thinks he can be the next Ron Jeremey is asking a production company to bet 2 G's but he wont do it himself. Basically, being male talent is not as easy as it looks.
The advice I give to most guys who want in -- do it yourself and start your own clips4sale store or website.

Every shoot I've been on, the paperwork is done first (including the signing of the model release.) I've had a couple shoots where the 'compensation' field is still blank when I'm filling it out. Guys starting out are in a sticky position of signing and trusting they'll get paid, or looking like a pain in the ass for asking about if it's same day pay, payroll, or if it's even a 'paid' shoot as newer guys getting gigs often relies on a friend of a friend and a couple of hasty emails or three minute phone calls.
Michael,
I completely agree. The best way to get started, is to do it yourself. At least that way, the only person screwing you over is you.

So the "insiders" are saying
1)It's tough to be a porn dude; only the best can cut it.
2)The directors demand good performances.
3)The producer is "out" money if a guy can't perform.
Where do I get my refund for all the porn I've rented/bought in which the guys didn't perform and the producer marketed it anyway? I doubt any scene has ever been scrapped nor any emergency replacement actor hired due to performance issue. They just "fix" it in editing (or not) and ship it out the door. Gimme a break.

i'd say it'd probably be quite difficult, you need to be able to focus on doing the job, not just enjoying your fuck so to speak
the thing about being able to get it up in front of 10 guys with a camera with no help and cum in 15minutes is probably most accurate from what i've heard
then pay your 2G to just have a go on a porn set whilst something is being filmed anyway as an extra shot, if it's good it'll appear on the DVD and you'll have a portfolio!

They do matter. And John Strong is high up on most ppls list of who they don't want to see. Do a forum search...
However, if there is a killer female cast, are you going to avoid seeing it because some male talent you don't like is in it? Probably not, and that's my only point.
PS. Peter North is director & producer, if he wasn't I doubt he would be on the box. If he was it would because he has been around for over a decade.

Hi John,
Good post. I would like to add that there is a little hypocrisy when it comes in the treatment of porn. Many critics think that sex should not be a commodity. However, the exposing of religion is a commodity. Most pastors get paid to preach. I do believe that paid pastors are 100% sincere in their beliefs and enjoy their job. However, the same could be said of adult performers.
There are several more "sacred" commodities that society seems to overlook. Selling romance is a business. Love songs are sold for a profit. Romance novels are sold for a profit. Romance is often considered sacred but it is sold. So I truly don't buy the argument that sex should not be sold as a commodity because it is sacred.
