i want to put a song as my ringtone, but the openings are slow. i want to have a section of the song as a ringtone. like the chorus and such. any free program i can do it with?

I use PolderbitS Sound Recorder, which includes an audio file editor, to create the MP3 file that I want to use as a ring tone. It's not free, but it is one of the best available.
If you're looking for free I'd do a search on either CNET or Tucows for an audio file editor/converter depending on your source (format) of the audio file that you want to 'snip' a section from to use as a ring tone. Last time I looked there were quite a few. It's probably one of the most common freeware/shareware application on those sites.
Once you have the audio file edited the way you want it and saved as an MP3 file, probably a maximum of 30 seconds play time, then send it to your cell phone attached to an e-mail.
Most late model cell phones have a function that allows you to select an MP3 file for a ring tone.

Audacity is free and easy to use.
Highlight the section of the song then choose "Export Selection" from the File menu.

^^^i have highlighted the section but i cant click export selection its greyed out

That's odd. Will it let you trim or copy and paste the selection from the Edit menu?

its letting me now. but for a while it didnt. thanks
got the chorus from surfacing by slipknot as my ring tone now
