This is a post for performers or others involved in the business to give an answer with as much knowledge as possible. I've been curious about how a porn audition works, is it just a straight forward work interview with perhaps the manager and lawyers present with just talk or do the performers show their skills for whoever is conducting the casting for their movie? Do the girls have to blow the producer to get a part, or is it just new girls that have to do that, or how does a usual casting audition work in the world of adult entertainment? This actually a very good question that I don't see discussed often. Wheh Seymore Butts had his tv series on SHOWTIME he had an episode where he had open auditions but that only consisted of him asking the girls a few questions nd having them strip and he took pics of them nude for his files. The guys, if I remember correctly had to get it up on command with no help right there in the office. Most of the guys had problems doing it. It was a funny episode but I often wondered how he would know if the girls wouldn't chicken out or were any good at having sex. Last year I watched a documentory/movie about pornstars and one segment had a porn agent or producer auditioning girls. What he did was after he asked them all the needed questions and checked out how they looked nude the last part of the audition was they had to have sex right then and there with a below average looking guy who worked for the agent/producer. The thinking was if they could have sex with that guy and it didn't bother them they could have sex with the average porn guy with no problem. Some of the girls did it and some wouldn't do it if I recall. I remember thinking that the getting to bang those girls had the greastest job ever because notonly was he doing girls that would otherwise be out of his league he was probably getting paid to bang them.
I had the same thought, haven't seen anything like this being discussed on this forum before :) That sounded interesting, do you remember the name of that documentary, and was that one of the bigger production companies conducting those auditions where the males had to get it up on the spot and the females had to take care of a man from the production team before getting the job?
I don't use them, but in the industry they're commonly referred to as 'look see'. I've seen them written as look/see or some other variation. The idea is a talent agency will send a new girl over to a producer's office for them to have a look at the girl. You can usually be expected to strip and have still photos taken. I'm sure some may expect more, but generally you'll just get naked. The 'auditions' you see on videos are ALL staged. If you see someone naked or having sex they've all signed model release forms.
HBO did a special a few years back called "Going Down in the Valley" where they casted extra's for "Space Nuts" and had the girls strip and read lines. I know thats probably watered down from what really goes on. Showtimes Vivid special about the casting of Debbie Does Dallas when they were doing PT's version and a goth version had Cassidy suprised she didn't have to blow either director to get the part. I would love to see how the business really works. Another question I alway had is do fluffers really exist? What kind of life do you have to have to want to blow guys just so they get hard?
After mentioning the documentary I got in the mood to watch it again to jog my memory on some things... The name of the documentary is "RATED X: A Journey Through Porn". I got part of the stuff I said before wrong. The name of the agency that had the girls have sex in the audition was BEAUTIFUL MODELS INTERNATIONAL. It was an agency with only one employee... The owner: Regan Senter. The last part of the interview was to have a taped sex scene. I have no idea if this company is still around or even considered legit. He showed tapes of girls who agreed to have sex wih him and showed one who turned him down. I don't know if having a girl perform at the interview/audition is morally right but I can see where it might make sense. But I think the agent in the documentary was more about being able to bang women than being a real agent. Also, on a slightly different subject one of the pornstars who post here complained that some girls have to have sex with the directors to get parts. I think that sort of messed up but at the same time I almost expect it to be the norm. The movie I mention here is a bit older but its still entertaining and an interesting look into the porn biz. Aren't fluffers mythological creatures? Perhaps created by some dude's fevered imagination. Do they exist in high-end productions and gang bangs, or not at all? I read somewhere that there were occasionally fluffers back in the Golden Age, but that they went extinct when porn went video and the big budget films were eliminated.
Except for those huge gangbang movies like the HOUSTON 500 and the ones Jasmine St Clair used to do everyone who talks about fluffers say they really don't exist. It really seems to be a silly idea to have some extra girl hanging around that only helps keep the guy hard. That's something the guy and girl performers should be able to do with no problem themselves. On the other hand I remember hearing when Ginger Lynn was a big deal she had a girl eat her out during the down time between scenes to keep her horniness up.
^^I had heard that as well--but it was for the Mitchell Brothers movie The Grafenberg Spot; they were using fluffers for the male cast during filming, and Ginger decided she wanted a fluffer too, so one of the Mitchells (don't remember which) got on his knees and did the duty. Gotta keep the star happy, right? These days, though, it's my understanding that the male stars are on their own, and you'll usually find them playing with themselves to keep it up between shots--which is why they end up finishing themselves at the end of a scene, because that's what they're used to. I saw the male audition thing on the Seymore Butts show that ran on SHOWTIME called FAMILY BUSINESS not the documentary. If I'm remembering correctly each guy audtioned had to get it up right then and there and a bunch of them had trouble. Another funny/interesting thing they showed on the show was a guy friend of Seymore's that always pestered him to be in one of Seymore's movies. Seymore was against using untried talent but gave in and used the guy anyway. He did kinda okay doing the scene but when it was time to pop he couldn't do it. After what seemed to be about a half hour or more of him jerking his stuff trying to finish Seymore just decided to fake it and not show the popshot from him.

That Butts show on Showtime started out okay but it quickly became obvious that everything was very staged. There are a lot of documentaries on the porn industry, an insane number actually, and two that show details around auditions include HARDCORE and FALLEN ANGELS.

This is standard operating procedure and they also have to get it off on command. Butts did this on his show, but they did give the guy a viagra as that was also SOP. When Stern had Nina Hartley, I believe, on his old E! TV show, they had some porn stud wannabes in the studio. It was kind of amusing when in a room full of people, Nina tells the guy to strip and get it up. The stud wannabe starts humming and hawing with things like, "What you mean right now?" thinking she was joking. Well, they realize the reality of porn, the guys slink out of the studio real quick.
There's no one answer to this question. Different producers, directors and photographers have different ways of going about it. Getting into porn, or getting work in adult film is a drastically different proposition for men and women. Lots of producers will take a look at, and interest in a girl if she is good looking. But I spent the majority of '09 in the valley trying to get my foot in the door, and it is just short of impossible for the average guy. Actually, I'm not great looking, but above average, and posses a larger than average endowment, and it was just tough, tough, tough. Bukkakes and gangbangs are what you're looking at. You cannot just stop by Vivid, or Wicked or DP and offer your services. Those companies cannot take a chance with an untested "male talent". With all the time and money it takes to shoot a scene, it's really no surprise. If you can't get wood with a bunch of people watching you, waiting for you to get it up so work can commence, the whole shoot is a bust. No wood equals no sex which equals no shoot, which means anyone who thought they would roll the dice and hire you because you were handsome,muscular, packing a big dick, whatever, has now cost the production co. a load of money. And they, and you, are probably not going to be working in the business anymore.
I wonder if all porn auditions are as on the up-and-up and those filmed by Showtime for Family Business?

For guys it's not rocket science. You have to prove yourself first. It's "get it up now, and then get it off, now!" Then you move on to the next step, actual sex, if you know someone in the industry. You hav to prove yourself to someone. Windsocks don't cut it.
Based on this thread, I can't see why any guy would want to do porn. The audition process is harsh, the acceptance rate is practically zero, and even the few lucky ones who get the job don't (appear to) enjoy doing it. So...what's the upside? Is it the money?
I have no doubt that being a male porn star has its attractions, but the task of being required to ejaculate upon some "directors" command leads me to wonder whether it really is all that.
What I want to know is the story of how some of these big name guys got into the positions there in..no pun. And frankly, I'd like to see where I stand with those performers. I might sound like I'm talking out of my ass here but I believe I could run with the bulls when it comes to doing porn. I truly believe this and I'd love an opportunity to find out! JJ

From what I have read it isn't that simple, that new, male talent often get his foot in the door by bringing women into the industry, there is a term that has come into vogue for this; suitcase pimp. Of course, another way for a male to get into porn is via the Christian XXX/MaXX Diesel route.
Actually, "suitcase pimp" is an old term, and has nothing to do with the male, or pimp, actually performing himself. And as far as the gay crossover route goes, while it still happens, it is rare. Back in the eighties and early nineties it was more prevalent. Gay porn is like a black mark on your record, and it's an automatic ticket to a lot of girl's, and a lot of producer's "no lists".

Who/what exactly are those 3 or 4 guys who show up in most cuckold movies? They usually don't have actual sex with the girls and mostly spread the girl's chheeks apart so the other guy can have sex with the girl and sometimes swallow the load at the end of the scene. It's unfortunate this thread has focused more on guys getting into porn, when the OP was asking about the audition process for girls. Particularly since guys really don't get auditioned. I think for the most part, guys have a difficult time even getting on talent agencies lists, let alone get hired by director/producers. I also think you should listen to raybbaby's comments about how difficult it is for guys to perform in these scenes. Your little friend has a mind of his own often, and you'll be surprised how stubborn he can be! If you still want to try it out, I suggest starting with amateur scenes. Find a girl, film some content, start to network, develop some behind the scenes skills and look for opportunities. I've seen several guys make the A list this way. You can also become a source for new girls for agencies. Start looking for girls on Backstage or some other source (not CL). If you start to feed new talent into the agencies, they'll be much more likely to find scenes for you. Expect them to be GB and Bukkakes to start, but they provide opportunities for you to show your stuff. If you really are capable of swimming with the big fish, you'll get a chance. Read James Deen's blog and look at the pictures of women he bangs EVERY day. Are you down for ALL of them? Can you walk in and bang them ALL on command? He does it and so do you if you're gonna make it big.

I'll come right out and say No. This is the point that a lot of guys miss when they fantasize about wanting to be pornstars. Many guys only think of it as a job where they get paid to fuck hot girls. What they forget is that guys in porn have to often fuck girls who they may not find remotely attractive. Yet, they still have to perform on command and deliver a decent scene, even if they may not want to be anywhere near the girls they're fucking. The good thing about being a porn consumer is that I can pick and choose which girls I want to watch in a scene. If I don't find a girl attractive, then I don't have to watch her scenes, and only watch the scenes of girls who I do find attractive. Most male porn performers don't have that privilege. They have to perform with whichever girls they're hired to fuck. The guys can't afford to regularly turn down work because they're not attracted to the girls cast for a scene. Plus, if they turn down work too often, then they'll quickly find themselves not working at all. For every really hot girl that a porn guy gets to fuck, there are a dozen other girls he has to fuck who may not be as attractive. These are the drawbacks of being a male porn performer.

I don't think any of the posts here answer the basic question of how a director can trust a totally new girl to actually not get cold feet at the last minute and not do the scene or just be so uncomfortable/stiff/unsexy during their first shoot the director can't use the film. I'd figure there has to be some sort of audition process to get some idea if the girl can actually do the scene.
