Is there a particular reason some people choose particular names i.e: sounds close to a mainstream actor. also in the past and present there have been some ridiculous names taken up. I'd be interested in knowing how names are chosen and what are some of the most stupid names in the business. [Link]

We've done the "childhood pet/first name" and "street you grew up on/last name" game here at the forums in the past. And some actresses, like Ginger Lynn and Julia Ann, actually use their real first and middle names. One of my favorites is Georgina Spelvin, who performed in the Golden Age of Porn. George/Georgina Spelvin is a name that legitimate stage actors would traditionally adopt when they didn't care to be recognized. Sometimes they were well-known actors playing a role so small that it might be an embarrassment, and sometimes they were union actors working in a non-union theater. Georgina chose her porn name as kind of a nifty little inside joke. [Link]

There are also methods that involve favorite colors, season of the year you start working in, and a bunch of other silly stuff. I came up with some mighty odd names using some of those methods, but Zelda Broadway was my favorite. [Link]

Having been in the World Modeling office more than once when a new girl was signing up I have seen this. They ask her, "...and what name do you want to use when you perform?", and you see this horrified look come across her face - She Has Never Thought Of This! Then there are the dancers who want to use the same stage name they've always danced with - never occurs to them that 50 other Diamonds have walked in during the past month. Then there are those of us who think we have a cute thing. Like me, I danced with Candi Kiss and we had so much fun signing things Lixx & Kisses from Kimi and Candi! - Yeah, great, three months after I started performing she quit!! Rather than change my name, I decided to keep it, fine, whatever! SOOOO I have a goofy porn name that certainly isn't what I would have chosen if I had a clue when I started. I got the name Skeeter when I was a little baby from my mom and grandpa when I was about 2 weeks old. Bridgette came up with her name when we were driving around.
