It has been really time-consuming to try to ferret out the good stuff from the crap. And other people in the chat room bring this up all the time.

What I first found when I got online to look for good porn was an alphabetical listing of movie titles that meant nothing to me, although I could eliminate some with obviously horrid titles. I could click my way through thousands of movies alphabetically, waiting each time for graphics to load, etc. The reviews were organized alphabetically as well. The only other way to find reviews was to already know the movie titles.

Couldn't somebody organize a list of movies rated 4 stars and above, divided into categories (feature, gonzo, whatever), and then maybe into a few subcategories (fetish, etc.)?

lindi, by using the "more search options" button next to Review Search, you can select on genre, then sort by ranking.

If you go to the main review page
search by category, and then you can sort the list by best rating.

I'm not sure that's the best way to find what would appeal to you though. I think it's easier to get a feel for the studios, then search reviews by studio and sort by rating.

Other options... look at the adult dvd talk member sites as some reviewers have identified their favorite dvds of all time. Then there's the featured DVDs on DVDPornReviews which are organized into raincoater and couples categories.

Ouch, I asked a really lame question. But I'm so glad I did!

One more thing, though. (If you have this feature, I missed it too) - when newbies first come in here, it would be nice if there was a prominent 'first-time visitor' thing to click on, with an introduction to what the genres are, a directory to the member sites, etc. Sort of a 'how to get started' thing.

your first question wasn't lame. our site could be organized much better.

I agree on the "Quick Start" tour. There is a huge wealth of resources on this site. I still continue to stumble on them. Just yesterday I found that if I click on the word Talk in the menu on the left, all kinds of new stuff pops up that is not obvious anywhere else.

I'm with ayb on this one. I am still finding little 'gems' now and then.

Lindi, there are very few lame questions that are asked. There are some that no one can answer, or some that others just don't find an interest it, but they're not lame.

(Well ... there have been a few, but that poster doesn't post anymore )

Well, I had already used the genre feature, but missed the 'sort by ranking' feature, and I wasn't familiar with what all the genres were, at first. I had found easier ways to reference which movies to look up next, but it took a while to acclimate. I had also gotten to Dumblonde's couples reviews once from a google search, but couldn't figure out how to get there from here!

When going through reviews, I normally go by the reviewer. Starting blind, I'd probably check here and the iafd for a few titles I liked and see if anybody has reviewed them and also really liked them. I'd then see what else they really liked, or what they thought of titles that interested me.

When hunting blind, I normally go by studios, directors, and the performers. I know who best satisfies my tastes, and try to go to their stuff. That said, I also force myself to try stuff that I wouldn't normally go for (such as some of the odder fetishes) just to see if I like that also.

BTW, are you that porn star lindi????

I am a newbie to Adult DVD Talk and I find your
site to be very well organized and full of very
thoughtful questions and posts.

I learn something new every day from ADT.

As a user, I say THANKS!

Den - appreciate that :)

Last night I worked out a new menu and will do a site map / thing for newbies too. Our current menu is the remnants of an expanding/collapsing menu that went away shortly after we launched it (too many compatibility issues.) It's about time we changed it to better accomodate all the new content.

Well, if people keep replying to this thread and bouncing it back up to the top, then let me also say how much I enjoy the site. And, Steph, if you track our log-in time, you know that already!

There are supposedly ten thousand new porno's released each year and most of them are crap. That fact means your question is not lame but very good. Your best bet is to decide what YOU like-genre, production values, performers, etc.-and then find a reviewer with similar tastes. Often enough, you'll find a company that caters to what you like or a director that consistently releases movies you can appreciate. Other than that, be prepared to watch some real stinkers in order to discover those few gems on the shelves.
