Ebony banks did a couple scenes for WhoaBoyz.com and Armani was pretty mainstream. pat362 Senior Member 10083 Posts 3/10	Posted - Nov 14 2020 : 9:17AM ^I agree that there isn't an all encompassing standard way to quit but one of the more common ways is when for whatever reason they stop performing and we only find out they are gone when some people notice that it's been a while since a new video was uploaded to the net. Most performers come into the industry for a very short period and leave about the same ay they came in. Quietly and without much fanfare. A good example is Gabby Carter. I only found out yesterday that she she has been on a break for the last six months and we only know that because someone read it on her Reddit page. If not for that then we could be forgiven for thinking that the last 9 pages of discussion in her thread are about an active performer still shooting porn from time to time when in effect she is currently retired from the industry and there is no mention of her wanting to make a comeback. Whether she actually writes an actual statement claiming that she is gone. The fact remains that Gabby Carter is gone and has no plan to return. [Link]

Being on indefinite hiatus creates uncertainty but there can be hope of a return while being retired carries an expectation that the performer will not return. With the 2004 HIV breakout in the porn industry, some performers stopped shooting for months after the moratorium ended with no planned return. Some came back after their months long hiatus, some eventually announced their retirement and some left quietly. To me it's basically the same thing since whether she is taking an indeterminate break or retired means that she has no immediate plan to return to the industry. The reason why I tend to lean more toward retired from working in the industry is her move to NY. They may shoot porn in NY but it's far from the main shootings hubs and therefore unlikely to have many opportunities to shoot for professional sites/studios without her doing some decent travel. Of course that doesn't mean that we can't hope for a return but if she can earn a living without shooting porn for studios then why would she want to shoot porn for studios?. [Link]

I don't see being on indefinite hiatus and being retired as the same. I see retirement as a decision to end one's role in the industry for good. Being on indefinite hiatus suggests to me less certainty whether being on leave from the industry will be for good or not. Hiatus may lead to retirement but the opposite works if you've had a significant change in outlook on working. [Link]
