I try to restrict myself to collecting movies for particular stars I like but only their best movies or best scenes. I don't try to collect every single thing they have done. When somebody retires I feel good knowing I got the best movies/scenes that performer did. One thing that can drive this addiction is the knowledge that lot of titles will eventually go out of circulation at some point. Sometimes faster than you think if the company folds which happens a lot. But you feel good knowing you got their best movies in your collection when this does happen. If the copyright holder dies or becomes lax you may even be able to make some money reselling those movies several years later. I believe that is exactly what the company Alpha Blue did. Some guy selling his collection of 70s porn movies. Of course occasionally he got sued by someone who still enforced their copyright ownership. But a lot of the titles sold by Alpha Blue have probably been orphaned by their legal copyright holders. But sometimes the company library and copyrights are acquired by new companies and kept alive.
