I've only been reading posts here for a couple of months so I apologize if this has been asked before...

There have been a few threads talking about "contract girls", whether it's possible to be a "porn star" without doing anal, the biggest names in porn and star status and such. I was just wondering how fans and the stars themselves define porn star success and what factors are more important.

Is it about having a contract from a large studio? Is it about how much money they make a year? Is it about being on as many box covers as possible? Is it about appearing in as many movies as they want? Is it about having the biggest fanbase? Most well known?

Just to give me some sort of idea of what your thinking process...Who's a bigger porn star: Gianna who gets tons of box covers and seems to work as much she wants to and does stuff for the biggest and smallest companies in the biz...or Jesse Jane who has a contract, is more well known but only has a handful of movies come out a year?

Thanks.

Isn't it obvious? The most successful star is the one with the longest ADT thread dedicated to her. Um, right?

I think it depends on the individual girl. Some might want to get in and get out quickly, just to make some quick money. Others are going for more long-term success.

But we do live in America, so the ultimate measure of success in a lot of people's opinion will be money. I don't know the specifics, but I'm pretty sure a busy non-contract girl has more earning potential than most contract stars. Of course they'll have to do more scenes, but that doesn't seem to be a problem for the girls who genuinely enjoy performing.

Of course I'd prefer girls follow Gianna's path, so we get to see more of them. Then again, Jesse Jane did play a pivotal role in an episode of Entourage. That's pretty cool.

I wouldn't measure it on how much you make in porn but how much you save and have available. There are plenty of people that make 25G a month and don't have 50 bucks left to pay their phone bill in the end.
I think the way you take care of yourself and manage your life says a lot about success. It's scary to me how many performers don't even have health insurance but they life in a 5 bedroom apartment all by themselves.

How do you measure success in life?
It is easy enough to make money, you can spend it even more easily, and you can save money if you watch what you do.

yeah i would say that if the girl is healthy and has saved some cash when she finishes with porn then she was a success.

Most of the answers from the people who've posted involve money and from the performers point of view I suppose that makes sense but from a fan/viewer/industry point of view is the criteria the same? Is it the performer with the most awards? The one who gets the most box covers? Biggest fanbase? Best sexual performer? Highest paid? Most scenes?

If we go by most of the things I listed then performers like Gianna, Naomi or Katja K. would be some of the most successful stars ever but I don't think the industry or some fans see them as such in comparison to some of the big contract girls who don't come close to most of the stuff on the list.

So maybe I should ask how do you measure who're the biggest porn stars?
