First of all, what would you consider mainstream award winning porn? And second of all, how far am I outside of the mainstream?

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

First off, years ago I bought some DVDs and one was the all-time best selling DVD, Award Winning Sex Scenes #1. There is now a #2 out. Anyways, I watched it and I hated it. All I could think of was how is this award winning? It's ok, in fact some of it is unstrokable. You got large breast implant women (yuk), women that aren't really that pretty, women that look like they are in their 40s, and bad camerawork. I didn't like it and that was when I knew I was outside of the mainstream if I didn't like "award-winning" sex.

I don't like Jenna Jameson. I don't think she's really that attractive. I think she looks kind of plain and is really over-rated.

I don't like Belladonna. I think she's kind of ugly and don't see what all the hype is about.

I really don't care for black girls or asian girls. I mostly like white girls and some latin girls.

I HATE all nude scenes. It's hard to get aroused to all nude scenes because it bores me. I watch a lot of porn so it's like watching the exact last film I watched since they all seem to be all nude. Seems like most films are this way so I'm going to assume it's mainstream.

I don't care for rough/shock sex. Girls with smeared makeup and spitting and all that stuff doesn't do much for me.

I don't like double penetration scenes. Two guys on one girl bores me because it seems to slow everything down and tends to focus just on the girls holes.

I HATE porn that focuses just on the girls holes. I want to see her full body and don't want things in the way.

For this reason I tend to 99% of the time enjoy POV films over all other porn out there. As long as the girl is pretty I'll probably enjoy it over everything else. Why? Because everything else is all nude and usually with not much dialogue, so I don't see what the difference is. At least with the POV, I'm guaranteed that some guy won't block the view of the girl with his raised leg. Plus I get better camera work versus the risk of getting a new cameraguy who likes to zoom in on the girl's holes every 10 seconds.

I Don't like gaping and pulling out.

I don't like pile drivers.

I HATE lesbian scenes. And will automatically rate a film 3 out of 5 stars if they sneak in a lesbian scene.

I HATE blowjob only scenes and films. I will never watch them because there is better stuff to watch.

I HATE watching a girl getting eaten out by a guy. That includes her vagina and her ass.

I DO however enjoy watching the guy kiss the girl on the mouth while having sex or while groping her.

I HATE listening to directors/camera guys interviewing the pornstars.

That's just some of my hangups that I think moves me away from mainstream porn.

I don't care for most of the "top" studios out there. Their stuff sucks. It's all nude, it's bad camerawork, and it's all about the shock factor now. "Oh look she's showing her asshole!" So what. You showed me 10 times already!!! I don't care for massive gangbangs and don't care for girls swapping cum or shitting anything out into someone elses mouth.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

What I do like is the POV Fantasy series. I think it's the best porn I've ever seen and the best porn out their for guys to watch. You have a theme, you have great camera work, you have costumes (not all-nude) and you have pretty girls. I honestly couldn't think of better porn outside of getting more dirty talk and more costumes in the series.

I also liked Jenna Haze Darkside. I thought it was really erotic with the roleplaying. I also like the part where she is wearing the black lace bra and panties and gets groped by hands through a wall. That seems really sensual and erotic. I like the mental aspect of it rather than just watching a stick go into a hole. I like colors, themes and passion, yet with great sex.

Anyways, based on all of that, how far am I outside of the mainstream of porn?

That "Award Winning" title you refer to is a compilation of scenes from VIVID movies that have won AVN awards...that's why it's called "Award Winning".

I agree with much of what DancesWithPorn said.

However, I love good BJ movies, almost all ethnic groups and any aged performer as long as she's still hot (and women can easily stay "hot" into their 60's... it's just that most don't).

Personally, I wish we could go back to more one-on-one sex and a whole lot more vaginal sex.
Most of the freak show/circus act objections kind of disappear when you get back to two people having sex with each other again.

A hot B/G scene is still the best ... but there really has to be chemistry and passion.

You guys are so funny!!

I know this sounds crazy but I may one day direct a porno. How well do you think it would do based on the stuff I said I like/dislike?

Do you think I'm too far away from the mainstream to make something people would buy?

I don't think there's such thing as mainstream porn anymore. Everything seems to be niche-marketed nowadays. I say watch (and make) what you like. That's what everybody else does. Pick your market and stick with it.

I think the draw of the more perverse (subjective as that word may be) gonzo styled porn is that it focuses on acts that alot (dare I say most) viewers will never take part in, especially if they are in a committed relationship... (as a side note, all people in committed relationships should be committed... including yours truly. :P)

That being said, in my opinion, there are few things hotter than a one on one b/g scene, where both of the people involved have a chemistry that almost fogs the lens/screen and the sex is off the cuff; uninhibited and real.

Besides, my attention span is getting too short for gangbangs, group sex, b/g/g/, fancy effects, etc......

I dunno about that. The wildest sex I've ever had has been within the context of a committed relationship, and the wildest sex I've ever heard of anyone having has also been within the context of a committed relationship.

NOT to get off the subject, but I've always felt Nicole Sheridan and Voodoo have managed to do a surprising amount of hot scenes for a mostly exclusive couple.

My background in sociology and psychology of marriage/the family tells me that MOST men do not have wives that are bringing another woman or a couple into their bed anytime soon. That's the kind of activity I'm refering to, not whether or not a person's S.O. is open to sexual experimentation...
I agree... I'm almost as impressed with the fact that their scenes have has much heat in them as I am with the notion that they've stayed a couple for so long.

I don't know what most fellow's wives are or are not doing. I feel reasonably certain that most threesome and foursome include at least two people who are married to each other, and all of the women I know who enjoy entertaining small groups of men are themselves married.

In response to the original post, I agree with 40% - 50% of what you say, and strongly disagree with the rest. Take from that what you will.

Here is a more comprehensive reply:
Always been a problem. It actually seems to be less of a problem now than it once was. However, Vivid is particularly known for this and you were watching a Vivid feature.
We all have different tastes, so what can you do? Anyway, this may be unavoidable now that so many more girls do porn that in the past.
Well, Vivid girls tend to be older.
Same as it ever was.
Well, I think a lot of her popularity is left over from her early career. See her in her Up'N'Cummers scene at the beginning of her career and be blown away on all counts.
I don't fully understand the cult of Belladona. She is not all that attractive, but she is very enthusiastic. As such I have certainly had fun stroking to her, but I am somewhat startled that she has risen as far as she has.
I personally have the same taste, but you have to recognize that not everyone has the same taste. One of my personal peeves is people who think that every single movie should fit their tastes. There is a lot of product out there, there is room for every type of girl and act.
I strongly disagree. I hate clothed scenes. I am ok with clothes that disguise a fat tummy or something, but generally I loathe it. I especially dispise panties left on in a scene.
I don't like that stuff either, but luckily most of that nonsense is confined to a few movies that are easy to avoid. You were watching a comp. In that situation, you pays your money and you takes your chances.
Strongly disagree. I often FF to the DP.
Personally I think of this as a feature of bad camerawork rather than bad direction.
I usually find POV to be endlessly tedious.
Me neither.
I like it as a change of pace.
This makes me want declare a vendetta on you. In other words, I disagree.
Yeah, that's boring.
This suggests you have issues. Just FF. I like having this stuff in there so there is something for the women to see. I personally FF past it, but I think there should actually be more of this so my wife will have something to watch when we are using porn together.
Me too.
I like it. I like hearing about the girls. It gives context to the movie and the scene.
I sometimes like them and sometimes don't. This is easy to avoid by looking at the box. You were watching a comp. In that situation, you pays your money and you takes your chances.
I usually like it.

Don't worry where you fit into the porn world - as long as you can find stuff you like. That POV Fantasy series is great. You might like some of the movies Jonni Darkko did for Digital Sin - Anal Trainer (I think around 11 in that series) and ATM Machine (1 - 4). I don't think they would be too crude for you unless you really hate the anal. They usually have some shred of clothing left.

There is so much porn out there in the marketplace, there's got to be plenty of titles for you to choose from. I had a hard time finding stuff I like at first too, but eventually I figured out which lines to avoid and which might appeal to me. Utilizing ADT's reviews has certainly helped.

The other thing I've done is abandoned the idea that there's any single DVD in which I'll like every scene. Even the movies in my collection only contain 1 or 2 hot scenes, IMO. Think of it in terms of any other form of entertainment. There are always certain songs on a CD that you like more than others. There are always certain episodes during a TV series that aren't as good as the others. Porn's no different. When you find something you consistently like, that always delivers exactly what you want, you're lucky.

DancesWithPorn,

Don't be pressured into thinking you need to like what others say is "normal." There is an awful lot of very perverse stuff being marketed as "mainstream porn." Women being beaten, dragged around on leashes, raped, etc. You don't have to question your taste in porn. The onus is on those who buy into some of this weird stuff.

I wouldn't necessarily say that you're outside of the mainstream of porn viewers. Lots of people feel the way you do about these things.

What I would say, however, is that everyone has their likes and dislikes. Not everyone is going to like gagging blowjobs and gaping anal. By the same token, not everyone likes the kind of porn you like. Some of us enjoy the rough, sloppy stuff (which is why it exists. If it didn't sell, they wouldn't make more of it).

What you're looking for is kind of rare compared to the all out gonzo stuff but it is out there. You may have to scour the internet to find it. That would include joining a few sites that look promising from their previews. You'll probably end up wasting a good deal of time and money before you find exactly what you like but if you don't like what you're seeing now, you're doing that anyway, right?

People who make porn often try to be all things to all people (which is, of course, impossible). When they realize they can't be, many of them will resort to at least trying to keep the majority of their viewers satisfied. After all, they have to make a living just like everyone else and they can't afford to be making porn that doesn't sell.

"Shock sex" gets people's attention. If you're a porn maker and you want your product to stand out, you're going to have to do something extraordinary. People get bored quickly (as you say) so things tend to get more and more extreme as time goes by.

There was a time when a picture of a gaping asshole on the front of a box stood out from the crowd. Now, it just gets lost in the crowd (not that I'll ever get tired of seeing it) and people start looking for other more "shocking" things. The studios oblige and so on and so forth.

Anyway...it gets to the point to where it's just too bad if you're in the minority. It's just like being any other kind of minority in this society. It's an uphill struggle to get what you want.

Under the right kind of lighting, she's actually quite stunning. Typical gonzo lighting tends to be really stark, often rather cold and harsh - exposing even the slightest flaws. All porn girls look better under lighting that's taylored to accentuate their better points and downplay any minor imperfections they may have.

DancesWithPorn,

Stick with the more mainstream companies - like Vivid and Wicked. They tend to put out a lot more classy material - certainly not the perverse stuff you've indicated you're uncomfortable with. Like I said, don't question your own standards - question those of the people who try to justify sick sexual behavior.
