Dirty Dan Member 65 Posts 8/03	Posted - Apr 26 2007 : 9:20PM I often wonder how difficult it is for a performer to leave the world of porn and go back to being a civilian again. I would think that the act of having sex in front of a camera could be could be quite intoxicating and addictive. Not to mention the fan worship and lifestyle that being a pornstar can provide. It has to be a difficult transition in many ways to go back to the 9 to 5 world that must of us live in. I've often heard of professional athletes say they can never find the "high" they had when they were playing. Which is why so many stay in the business in coaching, administrative or broadcast capacities. I see the same thing in porn with many performers going on to the directing and producing of porn. Porn lifers, if you will. Even 55 year old Vanessa del Rio has her own website and yahoo group and still has a ton of fans. Just wonder what some current and former performers think of this? [Link]

I'd imagine having sex with dozens of people tends to have a slightly different impact on the relationship than would flipping burgers together. So I'd have to guess one of the things that maes it "hard" to walk away is a feeling of losing your friends by leaving them behind. But I'm not on the inside...just a guess. [Link]

I also thinks it must be hard to readapt to a normal life, working more hours, not making near as much money as they did when they did porn etc. [Link]

No, just kidding ... It surely must depend on the person. I imagine it's easier to leave after a year or two because for most the bookings slowly evaporate unless they've created some kind of niche appeal or manage to have a strong working arrangement with a company. Look at Flower ... She got the squirting thing going with Seymour Butts, rolled over to Elegant, and now has an Internet contract ... She must be about 30 years old, and hasn't done anything to augment herself ... she's just a great performer ... I think like any career in any industry, if you've had some success you become identified within and without by your profesion [Link]

I have had very few negative experiences in the industry, so what holds for me, may not apply to others. In the adult entertainment industry I make in two hours what it took me forty hours to earn as an executive secretary. Not only does it take me a fraction of the time, but my adult industry job is active and exciting, sitting at the same old desk with the same old boss and the same old paperwork day after day is mind-numbingly dull. For me, but certainly I won't speak for all performers, the attention and affirmation is worth at least as much as the money. If that isn't enough, and again, I speak only for myself, I feel empowered. Because of the money, I have more options. I'm not pay check to pay check. Because I have so much more time outside of work there are so many more things I can do for myself and my family. I'm sure there are jobs outside of the adult entertainment industry that provide these kind of perks, but I haven't had any of those. Yeah, it's mega hard to give it up.
