I have heard that porn addiction progresses like any other addiction. I believe that for many it gets more extreme in whatever way that suits the individual, MF, MMG, gangbangs. Others maybe from regular facials to Bukakke. some younger and younger. Maybe more extreme D/s stuff or into one particular fetish or another.
What has your progression been ?
For me, it seems to be the number of scenes I have to look at before I find a suitable one. I have specific thing I like, but it really takes a very specific girl doing at least some of what I like. but like it can be the same girl doing the same thing in a different scene, and it doesnt work for me. something about THAT girl in THAT scene. Once I have a scene like that, I can use it many times in the future, but they are becoming more difficult to find. Once I find it I am good though. Seems so strange to me.
I am just spending tons of time looking at tons of videos. I used to jsut get horny, go on line and jerk off. . I still decide, hey i am gonna whack and do so, but sometimes its like "hey, ill just troll for pron with no intention of whacking, and hopefully ill find something for later". Maybe i am getting old.
Thanks

You definitely get desensitised, no doubt about it. I often ask myself do I look at porn because I feel horny or in order to feel horny? As far as progressing to more 'extreme' stuff, I wouldn't say my tastes have gotten more extreme as I've always been such a monumental pervert I reckon I could've started out with the ultra-hard stuff had that been available to me (I'm from the UK, where hardcore porn was outlawed until the early 2000s - yeah, I know).
What I watch is entirely dependent on my mood. I like a wide variety of things, from Max Hardcore, Facial Abuse and GGG at one end of the scale, to stuff like The Score Group - who treat their models extremely respectfully - at the other. The main problem I have nowadays is that my collection has grown so ludicrously vast (1000s of DVDs and countless gigabytes of downloaded material) that it's difficult to decide exactly what I want to see. I have been known to deliberate for ages before ending up on the Xbox instead.

I wouldn't say that my porn watching has progressed into more and more extreme stuff or into more extreme variations of the porn I started watching. I have gotten a lot more picky when it comes to sites to join, what scenes to download and what scenes I watch.

The industry will cure porn addiction. Some people will have withdrawals but even hardcore addicts will kick the habit because there is nothing to see anymore.

The whole escalation hypothesis is pretty dubious. I've most commonly heard it laid out by anti-porn Christian groups. While admittedly my tastes in porn have evolved since I first started watching, I don't think it fits a pattern of escalation. I mean, when I first started having sex in high school, a handjob was a pretty momentous thing for me. Now my reaction is, "Meh." I think that happens to most people. Why is it that if your preferences for sex involving partners evolve it's just, "Exploring your sexuality" but if it happens with solo masturbation it's some kind of depraved escalation akin to an addict looking for an even greater high? I think it's just the product of residual moral judgement of masturbation as being corrupt and unnatural.
Anyway, after over a decade of watching I've settled into my tastes and am happy with porn that consistently conforms to those tastes. Shouldn't my so-called escalation be getting more and more extreme instead of leveling out as they have?

^ Mr F, you consistently come out with brilliantly erudite posts that pretty often mirror my own thoughts. You're one of my favourite ADTers and I always enjoy reading what you have to say. Only thing I'd disagree with there is that I still love getting a handjob - I sometimes favour them over full-on sex.

^^ MrF makes a good point. Similary my porn tastes are basically the same as at the start , its just that nowadays in searching for new exceptional stuff i find the law of diminishing returns applies.
If your setting out on day 1 your going to find masses of great stuff , brandon irons et al etc etc , when you know all the great library of porn work (welll not all but a decent amount) finding new stuff is going to become increasingly harder. To the point where its questionable if it warrants the effort. If youve got time and money to kill then its fine as a form of timepass, but from a perspective of finding new arousing material is less clearcut.
The one thing i will say is that ive gone from searching hetero m/f porn to nowadays mainly checking out solo girl stuff , simply because i know trawling through heaps of generic porn im unlikely to find anything exceptional , whereas at least looking at solo girl , i know so long as the girls my type theres a good chance ill find it appealing , kinda back to dasics.
Everything said - its still fun trawling through general porn.

Talking about porn addiction is like talking about food addiction or addiction for air.
Because sexual desire, hunger, and the need to breathe are all natural needs that virtually everyone has, and not some artificially induced desire, as it is with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs that have been made illegal.
I think it confuses the issue, when you start portraying natural needs as some kind of an illness or addiction.

This sums it up well for me and likely for a lot of other people too. I don't think my interests changed any but what changed is that the porn I wanted became more widely available. Back when I started buying and watching porn (in the mid-1980s) it was illegal where I lived which meant I watched what I could get. My interest was always away from the plot-based porn so common then but even black market porn was tame. The internet changed all that: I can now buy what I want.
As an aside, the whole idea of community standards for deciding what is and isn't allowed has been pretty much rendered moot by the internet. Without the internet I'm pretty sure that some church group would insist a shop selling a Kink.com DVD be raided. But this same church group has no idea that as a middle-class guy with a computer I'm buying that exact stuff on the internet.
One other thing that changed personally for me over the years is that as my income increased so did my purchases. I suspect that's the same for many of us. I used to buy one membership every couple of months. These days I have five or six on the go at any time.

I don't know whether I have an addiction or a longstanding habit. But it hasn't "progressed" in the way you described.
The biggest changes in my behavior reflect changes in the world around me– specifically the rise of the internet.
Porn has moved onto the internet, and with that, more variety is available at my fingertips. I still prefer straight BG, but my favorite "kinky" genre is "Jerk Off Encouragement", which most would consider softcore.
My behavior has toned down significantly also. As I've discussed elsewhere, I used to flagrantly masturbate at strip clubs. I can't imagine doing this anymore, in part because the behavior wouldn't be tolerated in any club I know of, and partly because of the emergence of cell phones and the generally high level of surveillance in modern society.
No doubt, my attraction to "Jerk Off Encouragement" is related to the more extreme behavior I used to engage in. But even claiming that my "addiction" has "toned down" over the decades would totally miss the point, because the context of my behavior has changed so dramatically.
That said, I spend a lot more time interacting with porn than I used to. But even this is relatively "Softcore"– I spend far more time on this forum than I do actually looking at porn.

Getting a handjob is like having someone else brush your teeth.

^Wrong analogy. It's more like getting a handjob is like scratching an itch. You can do it yourself but it's way more pleasant when somebody else scratches it.
As to porn addiction somehow escalating to where you need more extreme stuff to get stimulated. If that is true than I must be the exception because what I liked 20 years ago is still what I like today. In fact except for lesbian porn. I still prefer porn made 20 years ago to almost anything made today and there wasn't all that much extreme stuff back then.

Me too.
^^ And Mr F, there's simply no comparison between a self-administered handjob and one given to you by a sexy lady (provided she knows what she's doing of course). It feels like a sleazy act (to me), it's visually stimulating and my orgasm is usually a lot more intense than cumming in a pussy - not that I don't also enjoy that, you understand. But, hey, to each his own. Apologies for the thread derailment - let's get this baby back on track. Enjoying reading about other people's experiences.

Not true. I'm no more into gonzo or anal than I was 10 years ago(give or take) when I started watching porn.

Porn addiction doesn't progress, the collection of porn just gets larger.

I'm much better at judging. I can tell by taking a look at the studio and the director whether this is good shit or not. There has to be studs bringing in an A game, too.

I didn't know why we have to take the POV of the other side into consideration while giving an honest answer.I'll be frank,I used to jerk off to naked pics of WWE Divas(<3 Lita) way before I reached 18 and that was much more than I needed at that time. But once I got my own PC,I started with Vanilla then IR only for a year or so,then every hardcore porn niche under the sun,and now the only reason I have not had sex with a shemale, the kind of porn which gets my attention most now,is because I'm scared of an STD.
So yes, that Porn addiction HAS progressed, though I am not desensitized to anything as I still enjoy everything and go through phases where I only watch Solo/Lesbian stuff.Hell,I even occasionally still have a look at those old pics of Lita,Trish etc ;-).
Whether Porn is an addiction or not,I love it,and I strongly believe I am better off now.The moral custodians of everything on this planet can eff-off.I want this, and more of it.
