All you'd need is a WMV compatible DVD player (not 100% on that) or a PC with the right connections. I've watched some demo material on my 17" laptop widescreen and it's not hugely noticable. But blow that up to 55" and it should look spectacular. [Link]

I just read the HD players will be $499 and Blu-Ray about $1000. Plus they are consumer unfriendly in terms of copy protection. I think I'll stick with what I have for now. Only bad thing about doing it that was is that by the time the format wars end and the prices come down out of the stratosphere on ANY new technology, it's usually on it's way out and something bigger and better is right around the corner. I know some people who just recently got a nice DVD player and a large collection of standard DVDs. Of course, now, HD is right around the corner and they've spent all that money on standard definition DVDs. Of course, you can upscale 'em but the true HD ones will almost certainly look far better when they get here. And by the time the common people can afford to buy HD TVs, players and large volumes of HD DVDs, super duper HD on steroids will be "coming soon to a store near you". I'm not paying $4,000 for a flat panel TV. I want one but that's beside the point. By the time I can afford a flat panel, they'll be yesterday's news. Irritating! [Link]

If the industry wants to move consumers, yet again, to the next technology, they had better get together and work out a single standard that everyone will adopt. These guys are just kidding themselves if they think consumers feel a need to replace our $50 DVD players and DVD collections with super expensive hardware that, by definition, 50% of which will be obsolete once the "VHS vs. Beta war" shakes out -- and it will. I'll buy a HD player when the price falls to $100 or so and the discs are sold for about the same price as standard DVDs. If it looks like I might get stuck with a white elephant, then I might wait longer. I'm in no super rush. The electronics industry needs to get it's act together. I would always rather receive movies, music and porn through my internet line rather than go into town or wait x amount of days for delivery. I have a 10MB connection, if I try downloading a Linux distro, I can clear 700 Meg in 11-13 minutes if I set 4 simultaneous connections. I would rather have a good quality 700 Meg VOD download in 15 minutes than a DVD in 3 days. I personally think that what ever happens with Blu-Ray/HD-DVD, internet delivery will happen on a massive scale. I think the only reason why it hasn’t yet is because not everyone has a fast enough connection. Statistically speaking around 50% of UK residents are still on Dial-Up. [Link]

I'm not getting an HDtv Until they have a Decent 32"-42" 1080p that is around maybe 1000 maybe 1500 etc. Till then HD-DVD's and Blu-Ray's aren't going to get any sales from me. But I think while Blu-ray' sound better to me, I think HDDVD's are going to win the war because of the name and how simple people think. [Link]
