I am just curious. . . how many men are circumsized? I always had the impression that more men were circumsized than men who weren't, mostly because I remember in my fifth grade sexual education classes, they would say how a uncircumsized penis may look unusual to most boys. But, at least from watching porn (which I realize is a horrible place to get sexual statistics for the average person) it seems most men aren't circumsized. So, are more men circumzised, or vice versa? Also, is it different world wide? I suspect non-religious circumsision was a practice mostly done in the USA.

Yeah it's more common in America, I'm from England and am circumcised. I'd say around 1 in 10 or 12 are circumcised over here, an advantage though, those girls who watch porn seem to want to try a cut cock and when they see one they literally go wild! Well a lot of them anyway!

Yeah I find this very interesting. A friend on my mine who is about to have baby boy informed me that her baby was not going to be circumsized. I was in shock. Then we started talking and she was telling me about all these other women she knows that say if they have boys that they were not going to practice this. It seems like most of the only people I know that are getting this done now are jewish people.
^^ 5 years ago, we decided to leave our son's foreskin intact. At the time, our only concern was social stigma. We were worried that he'd be teased by boys in the locker room come middle school. His pediatrician said that 40% of baby boys that year were uncircumcised. We did our research, and it turned out to be roughly accurate. That clinched the decision for us. No cutting on our baby boy.

Why were you in shock? I guess I'm completely the opposite. I find it shocking when people do decide to do it. But to answer the topic question, the latest statistic I read states that 10-15% of men in the world are circumcised. Of course, the statistic is significantly higher in the U.S.

I guess because here in North America it used to be a very common practice. Growing up as a non-circumsized kid, I was always really insecure about it. I guess to see many women who grew up in households that had brothers that were, it's just surprising to me that they wouldn't follow what their families had practised before them.

I didn't even know about it. It never occurred to me that circumcision was an issue until I became an adult. Before then, the only thing I learned about circumcision in school was that Jews and Muslims practice it. So I figured they were the only ones who did it. Even when I started watching porn, it took me a while before I started noticing that most of the guys in porn are circumcised. It probably took me a few years before I finally realized, "Hey, these guys have no foreskin." Since I knew that there was no way in the world that every guy performing in porn could be Jewish or Muslim, I didn't understand the reason for it. It was only when I got to college that I learned that most American men are circumcised at birth, which explained why it is so common in porn. It appeared that I was in the minority. I just didn't know it.I tend to think that the decision to circumcize is usually the idea of the father or the doctor, and that mothers just go along with it. Do most women know whether or not their family practices circumcision unless they specifically ask about it? I'm not sure.
Yeah, we know. If you have brothers, you've probably seen them naked. If you're an older sister, you've changed diapers.

It's more common in the United States. I think it's barbaric and no one would think of doing this to their daughter for whatever reason they think it might have for health reasons in the future. Saw a report on this many years ago and how some boys here in the US have died after the procedure was done by their doctor.
There is a medical reason for it! At the age of 5 I found taking a piss to be very painfull, reason was the foreskin was too tight, so snip snip. Can't say I think losing it is a big deal, I think it would just get in the way.

Well in your case it was medical. But with most boys, there is no reason to do it to a baby.
Like all boys, uncut boys start fiddling with themselves at around age 5. It's also an age in which little boys get insecure or even fearful of something bad happening to their penis. As such, they touch it often. It's a comfort thing. Unfortunately this irritates the foreskin, and the child can suffer from pain. More unfortunate is that some doctors decide to fix the problem by amputating the foreskin. Instead of managing the symptoms with medication or topical treatments, they reach for the scalpel. So, right when the kid is more aware of his penis than ever in his life, he gets part of it cut off. My boy is 5 right now, and he's constantly got his hand down his pants. And yes, he's irritated the tissue from time to time. I just keep him clean and treat him with aloe vera gel, or a mild cortizone if it's swollen. No problem. Certainly not a big enough problem to resort to amputation.

This is exactly what some of my female friends are saying. I think the trend is going to start turning away from this.
