My wife complains of pain after sex, citing that our intercourse lasts too long, at an average length of 20 mins. This is not including foreplay. We don't do anything unusual or rough, either.
Does 20 mins seem reasonable to you, or is my wife right? I don't want her to be sore afterwards, but I'm not so sure the length of time of intercourse is the cause.

Even when trying to keep it brief, it always consumes at least an hour (incl. foreplay). Usually it takes about 15 minutes to make the missus cum, then another 10 for 1-3 additional orgasms. Almost half an hour spent. To be frank, the whole process has become stale and repetitive. I just live for the foreplay and occasional facials/swallows. Regular vaginal penetration couldn't be more bland.
I'd happily take your 20 minutes. It seems a lot less arduous.

15 minutes seems about right, usually about two or three times per night.

Pain after sex could be an indication of insufficient lubrication or it could be something more serious. She should talk to her physician.

I appreciate the responses, everyone. After doing some research and discussing it, we've decided that the problem is only doing it in one position for 20 mins. Anything past 10 minutes in one position, often results in soreness, according to what we've been reading.
So, tonight, we're going to enjoy at least two positions, use plenty of lube, and take our time. We're hoping it'll be fun and maybe we'll learn a few tricks, in the process. Plus the Mrs. suggested possibly putting on some of our favorite porn and finishing each other off, manually. What a gal.
Thanks again, everybody. I'll post how things go, after trying this out a few times.

I take it the lack of an update suggests that the 20 minute barrier has been well and truly surpassed,,,

Hey Jonny, I appreciate your interest in hearing the outcome of this exciting saga. LOL Well, the experiment was not an unqualified success, but it was not a waste of time, either.
On the chance that others are in my position, and can benefit from what I have to say, I'm going to go into some detail, in explaining what happened, and what's been happening, since.
To be quite frank, my wife is overweight. This makes other positions besides missionary, somewhat difficult and certain ones are just impossible. So, anything other than missionary was a bust, for one reason or another.
As a result, we were back to extended time in missionary. Once I realized how long we were in that position, I called it quits, even though I didn't orgasm. She felt bad, and everything was quite awkward, as you can imagine. That's the bad part.
The good part is that we talked about it the next day, and decided that, for the time being, the intercourse was going to happen in missionary position alone. That meant that we had to work on getting me on the road to orgasm, before the intercourse even starts. We decided to spend much more time on foreplay, and to really concentrate on getting off on it, not just "feeling good" during it. Hopefully, you guys know what I mean by that.
Secondly, since we're both actors and entertainers, we thought it would be fun to see how things went if we just let go of our own personal insecurities about intercourse, and instead do a fun roleplay scenario, where those insecurities are non-existent. We wanted to see if getting out of the familiar routine, and putting aside our predictability to each other as husband and wife, would show us that we're actually better at sex than we realize.
So, a few days later, on my birthday, we made plans to watch the "Three's Company" parody to have a few laughs, loosen up, and hopefully get a little turned on. Then we would try the roleplay scenario we came up with. My wife would play a lingerie salesperson in a boutique with me as her last customer, and the store has just closed. As the customer, my goal is to make the very best choice of lingerie for my wife, since she enjoys keeping it on, during sex. This means that the fabric has to be just right, that it has to look good when it's wet, and it has to still feel comfortable while we're fucking. Naturally, wanting to close the deal, the saleswoman is all too eager to give me a full demonstration.
Well, long story short (too late), we rocked each other's world, that night. Pretending to be someone else really showed us how much of our insecurities and difficulty getting turned on during foreplay, were just issues of us being self-conscious, and all too familiar with the "routine." Breaking out of that routine gave us freedom to be more aggressive, less "careful", and more responsive to the other's advances. We had a blast and learned just how sexy we can be!
Yes, we only had sex in missionary, but by that point, it didn't matter. We were so excited, she had already squirted once, and I practically came upon entering her. It was perfect.
That night, we learned that, for us, sex is all about the build-up. The intercourse is merely the finish line. That realization, plus letting go of the familiar and routine, has changed our love life.
So, there it is. I would love to hear your thoughts on this, especially if it serves to encourage you, if you're in a similar position. Thanks again to everyone for your interest.

Thanks a lot, Jonny. I'm glad you liked what I had to say. I gather by "envy" that you're having issues of your own? Not to pry, though. Just suffice it to say that just as you were interested to know how things were on my end, I'm interested to know how things are on yours. Truth be told, the reason forums like this exist, is so folks can have fun learning though others' experiences and by sharing their own. So go for it, if you want.

I used to love the minute-men. They made me feel like I had the best pussy on earth. Plus, they were almost always up for a second or third shot. Awesome.

We've had that issue in the past. We've overcome the problem in a number of ways. 1. We got a very slick lube and use it liberally. 2. We spend more time focusing on getting her off (with fingers and toys) prior to penetration with my penis. 3. Reading her erotic stories as foreplay really helps her open up much better. 4. I just let myself cum instead of trying to hold it forever trying to reach the orgasm of all orgasms every time.
This is an excellent post!

This may sound kind of harsh, so realize this is just my opinion, but if someone can't masturbate themselves (especially women, since they typically take longer) from zero to orgasm in less than five minutes, then either you've got some kind of medical problem, or you simply are not in touch with your own sexuality.
Sex starts and ends in the brain. If you can't go from zero to orgasm in less than five minutes.. You need to fantasize more. Because if it takes you half an hour to get yourself off... How do you expect a partner to do it any quicker?
On a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being not having a sexual thought in your mind at all, and 10 being having a &(;)$; mind blowing orgasm, there has never been a second in my life, since I was probably about 10 years old that I have been below a 5. It's like I'm always a single split second thought, or grope, away from having a raging hardon and ready to fuck. If I haven't had sex in at least 24 hours, am with a partner that I am connected with, who is enticing me and trying to make me cum as fast as possible, and a partner that can handle my lust and anything I wish to do to her, without having to hold back.. There's no way I'm going to last more than 1 minute. But who cares? We 69 for 5 minutes and I'm ready to go again. The second time might last 5 to ten minutes.. Another 5 minutes of oral and the third time might last 15-20 minutes. After that.. I'm pretty much ready to go again on the hour. I don't know for how long I can keep that up, I know not indefinatly.. But I've never found my stopping point yet. Bit then again.. I'm some kind of freak of nature. :) lol
But anyway... If it takes you more than 5 minutes.. Try fantasizing more. Because again, I don't think one is in touch with their sexuality if it takes longer than that. But again... Just my opinion.

^well my point being.. It doesn't matter weither you are male or female.. If it takes you 20+ minutes to bring yourself to orgasm (if you are not specifically trying to last that long), I beleive you are not in touch with your sexuality.. You need to fantasize more.

My wife also complains of pain during intercourse. It used to be worse when we were first married, but as we've learned her body more, I've learned to adapt how I penetrate her to make it more pleasurable for her. Her gynocologist told her that she has a shallow vagina and as a result, my penis literally pounds right on her cervix, which is what hurts her.
We've learned that intercourse has to start off slowly with shallow penetrations and slowly build up to deeper penetrations. I can't start off deep and hard, or that'll be it for her.
Regardless, though, actual time spent penetrating her can't be more than 15 or 20 minutes. I often have to end up with her jerking me off, or I'll jerk myself off over her.

These are all very helpful replies, and I thank you guys for sharing such helpful information. That last post about a shallow vagina rings true, and I think we're in the same boat as you. So, I will take your advice, and go shallow at first, and build up to deep. That plus keeping the time to 15 mins max, will hopefully make a difference.
Plus, as I mentioned, part of it was just letting go during foreplay and letting ourselves get excited and worked up and "on the road" before intercourse begins.
I have found this thread very interesting to keep up with, and look forward to hearing from more of you!

20 minutes for actual intercourse in a number of positions sounds right,,... but there should be at least 30 minutes of foreplay and oral (both ways thanks!) before that.
