I know a few people who just collect anything and everything they can. Hoards and hoards of random porn without rhyme or reason.
Admittedly I originally started off the same. But by a certain point I realised I had so much stuff that I had literally watched once but knew I would never bother to watch those scenes again that I eventually decided to focus more on creating a "refined" database rather than just "collecting for the sake of collecting". So I started the extremely tedious (but very worthwhile) task of doing a significant purge. The goal being to focus on only keeping "the best of the best" of the actresses/scenes I liked the most... and letting all of the rest go.
Of course, with so much stuff to go through this was not a quick process and required multiple extremely tedious spurts of dedication... with long breaks inbetween each purge to get it done. But the result is that I have ended up with a much better and satisfying "porn stash" where almost anything I ever randomly click on is what I would describe as my personal "gold standard" and always worth watching and worth repeated viewings. I have so far managed to reduce it down to fit onto a single 4tb harddrive (with backups of course) which is a miracle from the ridiculous amount I had when I first started purging. It is still an ongoing process unfortunately, there is still more to purge... but what I have now is SO much better than what it ever was before. Despite having less than half the amount now than I had when I started.
Here is the thing. Even my favorite porn actresses have their bad days, or their "less than enthusiastic performances", or their really bad pairing with male (or female) talent, or given terrible outfits for scenes that don't suit them at all or only serve to distract from their natural beauty, or their scenes are shot by an extremely untalented cameraman or wrecked by a post-scene editor that should be immediately fired from working in the porn industry ever again, or are focused almost entirely on aspects of porn that are not things what I am personally "in to". Or simply are scenes that are far too similar to scenes they have already personally performed better in the past. This means that even for my favorite performers... not all of their scenes are worth obsessively keeping for the sake of just "having them". This is also true for studios as well of course.
Via this process I have confirmed that when focusing on the concept of the "best of the best"... 99.9% of porn quite honestly is just not worth keeping or even re-viewing when regarding them outside of just the obsessive collecting "gotta get them all" mentality. It took me a while to shift this mindset, but once I did the quality of my collection improved dramatically and obviously.
Anyway... to your questions.
1) I currently have just under 4tb... but I am working on reducing it further to improve my stash quality overall.
2) I no longer "download for the sake of downloading" anymore. So amounts simply in GB terms mean virtually nothing to me. I search out some of my favorite porn actresses "1sts" that I still haven't managed to find (First Scene, First Deepthroat, First Anal, First DP etc) in the best possible quality I can find. But I mainly focus on "hard to find" rare scenes that are practically impossible to find anywhere (online or otherwise). I also look for "upgrades" in quality of some of my favorite scenes to replace lower quality versions I currently have. Lastly I keep an eye out for new starlets that are starting out and hunt down some of their scenes to try and work out if they are worth adding to my collection in the future. These are now my only real "goals".
3) This is also still a "work in progress" but I don't seperate scenes by studios. They are mainly divided by actresses names, and then by certain catagories when relevant.
At the moment I have...
The Main Folder... simply named "A-Z Pornstars" which is just each of my favorite actresses with all my favorite scenes starring them (that don't fall into any of the specific "kink" catagories below) in their own individual folders. This is by far the largest folder I have.
The other folders are divided into specific "Kinks/Fetishes" (for lack of a better term) that do include scenes from actresses in the main folder above but are specific catagories.
1) "Solo Girls" - This folder is mainly girls who don't ever do Boy/Girl or Girl/Girl porn scenes... but are still too gorgeous to not keep. 2) "Girl on Girl" - This folder is mainly girls who don't ever (or rarely) do Boy/Girl... but do lesbian stuff that are too gorgeous not to keep. 3) "Girls Vs Machines" - As the title indicates. Girls using fucking machines and sybians etc but without any men directly touching them. 4) "Blowjobs/ Handjobs Only" - Actresses using only their talented mouths and hands alone. 5) "Unfamous Girls" - This is mainly amateurs who only did 1 scene and quit or actresses that did fewer than 10 scenes over their entire career. 6) "Webcam Models" - Just camgirls who made their career with home cameras and without a professional porn studio ever involved. 7) "Parody/ Cosplay/ Roleplay" - These are scenes of actresses "dressing up" as superheroines, or game characters, or Jedi/Sith, or nuns, or policewomen etc and doing roleplay stuff. 8) "Reverse Gangbangs" - 1 man vs 3 or more women scenes. 9) "Orgy Scenes" - Exactly what it says. Lots of men and women all in the same scene together. 10) "Dominant/ Submissive" - Scenes with men being extremely dominant with actresses (no Femdom scenes, I've looked but it's just not my thing). Tied up, spanking, slapping, sex slave, "Yes Master", rough stuff etc. 11) "Real Pornstar Sisters" - Real life sisters and twins starring together in scenes (Yes, I know it's twisted... but despite ruthless purging I couldn't bring myself to delete them). 12) "Classic Pornstars" - Long retired actresses who were gorgeous back in the day (and are likely very old now). Mainly icons of porns yesteryear long gone but not forgotten. 13) "Specials (Porn Events or Shows)" - This folder is mainly actresses "fucking fans", Porn Competitions, Live Porn Event Recordings, Pornstar Sex Challenges, Dancing Bear Events... Stuff like that. 14) "Weird or Twisted Scenes (WTF Stuff or Unusual Kinks)" - This folder has just the "weird stuff". Guys using oversized fake penises that "ejaculate" ridiculous amounts of cum, or other strange fucked up fetishes. I mostly keep this for when people don't believe me that porn scenes like these exist. It my smallest folder with 1 "prime example" of each twisted thing basically just for me to show friends if they don't believe me. 15) "Celebrity Sex Tapes, or Nude Vids" - Celebrities real sex tapes. 16) "Celebrity Movie Sex Scenes" - Fake sex scenes of my favorite celebrities from various movies and series. 16) "Fake Celebrity Porn" - A collection of some of the decent "Deepfake" vids of various celebrities faces on pornstar bodies. 17) "Full Movies" - Some of the few storyline porn movies that are worth keeping to watch from beginning to end (rather than just for individual scenes).
... That's it. But still a work in progress.

A lot. I've culled more than 3 TB worth of scenes from my collection and I must have 7 or 8 TB currently. Just in terms of storage space, it's gotten worse the last 2-3 years with higher quality and larger file sizes. I'm gradually getting more selective in what I keep, but I still keep more than I discard.
This may just be my way of justifying it, but I see myself as more of a porn collector and not a porn hoarder. But I'm fine with being labelled a connoisseur or aficionado too.
1) I currently have 25 Western Digital external hard drives for my porn collection. 21 of them are 2TB and five of them are 4TB. That gives me 62TB of capacity but very few of the drives are completely full. I leave some room on them so that when I re-subscribe to a site (which I do often) I can put the new scenes with the current ones so that way I don't have scenes from a specific site spread out across the drives.
So knowing how much I have on these drives I'd estimate that I have between 45 and 50TB of porn. This encompasses DVDs and scenes that date back into the mid-90s that I've been able to find over the years all the way up to current stuff.
Not that this counts, but I have all of this backed up as well. I have 16 of the Western Digital drives that are powered off of AC power rather than USB alone. The newer ones of those are 6TB each but the older ones are 4TB. I'm pretty anal about regularly backing stuff up. It hasn't happened often, but I have had drives fail in the past. Losing a drive is a minor annoyance rather than a catastrophe.
I do a deep dive in my collection every few years to see if there is some stuff I can delete. Back when I first did this maybe six or seven years ago I probably deleted 30% of my collection. I targeted stuff I didn't watch and scenes with low resolution. But. a lot of my 90s collection is low resolution and I'll never get rid of that. In fact, much of that is double-backed up.
2) No goals. I subscribe to sites I like and download the scenes with the models I like. But, I like a lot f models.
3) I'm sure there are many better ways to organize my library but I've used this since my beginning days collecting porn and it would be too big of a job to change now.
My file organization is pretty simple. Each drive has folders named for the site or DVD where it comes from and then in that folder are the files named for the female model(s) in that scene. I will also add a word or two after the file name if the scene has something that I really like. So, for example, in a folder called Babes.com there is a file labelled "Linda Sweet check red hair." So when I plug that drive in I can search for "red hair" or I can just search "check" and all my favourites that I've tagged on that drive pop up.
I track all of this using two Word documents. The first one is for my complete collection and it's pretty simple. I have a three column table where the first column is the name of the site or DVD, the second has the female models listed and the third one lists the number of the external drive where this is. This table is currently 255 pages long.
The second document is also a three-column document. I use this to track favourite scenes. The first column is the name of the site or DVD, the second column is the model and a brief description of why this is on the favourites list and the third column is the drive number where the scene is located. This document is currently 61 pages long.
It's a fairly rudimentary system but it's worked for me for at least 20 years now.
I kind of wonder, for people like me, that download so much more than I can ever possibly watch, what is the psychological significance of that? Why keep actual copies of this stuff at all when it's so easily available via streaming? There must be some sort of explanation for the impulse to collect this type of content and "own" it, as opposed to simply viewing it when I want to on the internet.
^ I've wondered the same thing. But I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it because apart from the social stigma it's not dissimilar to other kinds of collecting.
I have not adapted to downloading. It has been fun using 2-4 dvd recorders, roku plus with av cables, amazon silk browser with hdmi to av converter, and burning up the blank dvds ! Goodwill and $ 10 machines have been so helpful collecting.
1) I have about 5-6 terabytes spread out over a couple external hard drives and my old PC. Although like someone else here mentioned, the file size of scenes has shot up dramatically in the last couple of years, so a fair amount of that data is made up from the last couple years.
2) I don't have a "goal" per se in terms of how much to download. What I usually do is if I'm in the mood to watch something from a specific performer (or I see a new performer that I'm into), I'll go through the sites I've subscribed to and download a handful of scenes to watch later. If it's a performer with a smaller collection of available scenes, I'll go check out their clip-stores and buy a couple if I know they put out quality content.
3) I pretty much just catalog it by performer. The one quirk is I have keep all G/G content sub-categorized under a specific folder. So for example: Samantha Ryan has a folder in the main directory. However, in the "G/G" folder she has a sub-folder for her lesbian content.
I've thought about that exact same thing! I think for me at least, it's partially a side-effect of growing up when internet speeds with DSL services made any kind of streaming or downloading a time-consuming struggle. So, anything I had I was inclined to just save. Also over the years I've subscribed to a sizable number of member sites, and over time depending on the quality of output I may get fed up with the declining quality & determine that it's not worth paying the membership cost. But, I don't want to lose the scenes that I viewed and enjoyed. So I always have a local copy on my hard drive.
I don't use any backup software. I just plug the external drive and the backup drive into my computer and copy and paste. That can take a while depending on the number of files to be transferred so that's why I try to be diligent and back up frequently.
If anyone has a faster solution I'd appreciate hearing it.
I constantly have the urge to download many of my favs porn, or whole sites like familystrokes, pervmom etc. when I get monthly subs.
Regularly I sub to the different Vixen Media Group sites and download all the newest content.
But, and here is the big problem, I never watch all those downloaded scenes. Never. At least not on the harddrives. I either rewatch them when I sub to those sites again all I watch the endless new content by streaming.
Think it's time for me to really rethink if I should even download them in the first place. I put so much time into it and I always have the urge want to download so many new scenes, but If I don't watch them whats the point. To maybe watch them in the future?
I have dvds burned from over 10 years ago that I never rewatched, or regular movies on blu ray I never even opened in a decade, cause I just watch streaming services.

^Yeah, this is exactly how I feel. I do, occasionally, watch scenes that I've downloaded, but mostly it's collecting for the sake of collecting.
^ I have a folder for each one of my "faves", although faves may be too strong a term (I have over 500). Anyway, once I deem a girl a fave, I make it my mission to find and download every piece of video I can find for her.
So much so I have flash drives to store and I have alot of my computer. Now that I got onlyfans its growing even more lol. I only watch g/g and trans/trans, and trans/girl stuff but Ive been following the industry for almost two decades (I feel old even though Im not all that old lol) so the scenes just piled up on me lol.
Me too, but I don't have over 500 faves, just around 100.
I currently have 4 x 8TB, 1 x 4TB desktop hard drives and 4 x 4TB portable hard drives. I also have a few older usb2.0 2tb desktop drives with lower quality porn from the pre HD days (like 2008 and older). I use my laptop to d/l which has a smaller hard drive so I just create folders by numbers and when I need to clear up more space on my laptop I will move them to the external hard drives. I am up to 131, and still have about 2tb space left. Searching is easy so no need to spend a lot of time on organizing. I use a 4tb hard drive for VR videos which I stream via Plex to my OculusGo.
My faves I keep on the portable hard drives in folders by actresses and they are just copies from the desktop hard drives. I like to be able to plug in the portable drives to my TV to watch in the background.
My downloading has slowed down a lot though especially in the past 2 years. I've just committed to buying and renewing annual subscriptions to the major porn sites like NaughtyAmerica, Bang, AdultTime & Brazzers. I got in on that PornPortal deal so I have access to even more sites without renewal fees. For the smaller sites I will do the monthly download everything and cancel plan. I spend about $500 a year on subscription fees which really is a small percentage of my spending. I don't plan to buy any more hard drives, and honestly if one goes bad I'll probably wont feel the need to replace or re-download.

I found Toshiba and magnavox DVD recorders the past few years at thrift stores for around $10 each. I buy blank dvds at Walmart or Amazon, usually Memorex. Then I can watch them on a big screen tv with ease. (response to chocoloco) ...messed up the quoting !
As an older man and somebody who is in retirement, I have much time to spend downloading, so in the last 4-5 years I have collecte a lot of movies. or videos. I can say the number but a lot. But I finish now, I think that the time of the old movies will come to an end concerning the last progressions and incidents in porn industry. Due covid-19 and lockdown of the whole movie industry incl. adult industry. I think is the wrong thread. Write on elsewhere about the future...
