How much stock do you put in Freeones rankings?

Valentine Member flash in the pan 153 Posts 8/11	Posted - May 27 2012 : 2:46AM I ask this because it's there in the Biography section on Freeones and because of this Miss Freeones contest, etc, etc. So, I'm not a big Taryn Thomas fan, and I'm not a T.T. hater, either. And I'm not a fool and not blind - I would totally do her in a New York minute. But I was shocked to find that her highest pornstar ranking ever according to Freeones is 170 and that other than that one blip on the Richter scale she never broke into the top 200, ever. Am I wrong or is/was Taryn Thomas a big time and very successful pornstar? Or did she never achieve such fame and are those rankings accurate? And then by analogy are these rankings a fairly accurate picture/portrait of the popularity (do they for example correspond to DVD sales, appearances on various subscription-based websites, various awards including but not limited to AVN, Twitter followers, Facebook Friends/Foes, and number of fans?) of pornstars? On the flip side, I look at Sophie Dee (and I know she is a superstar who has steadily risen in popularity over the years and earned her fame) and I think 'yeah, OK number 10, number 13' that seems about right.' The reality is that there may only be a page worth of different scenes. I've never voted for any freeone models and don't plan to join their site to do so. [Link]

The discussions here, and the individual and collective knowledge here, seems far greater than over there. And in Google searches of various topics this site comes up as often as that site. You still have many performers that are ranked quite high on Freeone and these are performers that are no longer active and were never all that active to begin with. Just to take one example. Katerina/Katarina Hartlova is ranked 23. This is a woman who started doing porn 12 years ago and only worked with her boyfriend. Just look at all the women that are ranked further down and tell me why she is at that number. I don't use Freeone because I honestly don't care what the ranking of a performer is and I think there are better sources for info on performers. I prefer Porn Teen Girl, EBI, IAFD and this forum because ultimately it's not their ranking that interest me but who are they and where can I find their work. [Link]

I used to visit "data18" but realised that they only bothered to keep track of a very small amount of sites and their tagging system left a lot to be desired. These day's Porn Teen Girl or EBI or ADT will be a superior source of info on new or estabslied performers. [Link]

If it doesn´t fit here , then I´ll move these posts to another topic . Take Antonia Sainz from Czech R , who is on today´s front page of the top 100 , rank 79 . Not so popular here , but at the EBI forum she is . She is not among my absolute favourites , but in the broader field of women who have caught my interest . Compare that to Kendra´s thread at ADT : 2 pages only ( thread started Oct 2017 ) Daisy´s thread : 8 pages ! Well , I never did it before , but since I am trying to get more Asians at my favourite site(s) [ sometimes together with fellow forum users ] , I am rather saddened by the fact that Asians are not as popular as it seems . I would like to have 1/3 of all scenes done by Asian models , but I see that this is too much for most users . However , I would have thought that the popularity range lies between 5-15 % , but even this quota is not reached by the meager ranking results at Freeo . Somehow I had the impression that Asians would be much more popular , specially since some years ago Asia Carrera , Tera Patrick , Katsumi and Asa Akira were all over the place and often got the highest awards . I really have no idea how they are calculated. For all I know, people can vote. For me, the models I like is highly subjective, and I'm certain that's the same for everyone else. I have a few favourites who aren't necessarily popular, and if they don't score well on Freeones, that's no worry of mine. [Link]

As a result there might be lots of biases . However I think that the rankings are 60 - 75 % accurate and rather represent today´s state of popularity. ( Forget some long retired models who will simply not go away from the top 100... ). For example : Anissa Kate , Eli Ibarra , Liz Jordan , Vanna Bardot , Valentina Nappi , Angela White , Chloe Amour are currently in the top 100, as expected. They shouldn´t be too far away from there, otherwise it would strike me as not up to date. The " B-graders " fnd their their place between 500-1000 ( Just putting a label , no offence : Some of my favs are B-graders , others even F-graders etc...) Whereas newbies oscillate somewhere between 25.000 and 8.000 and might climb upwards if they get a reasonable fanbase and sufficient exposure; or they might get stuck there with bad luck or bad career decisions. All in all , it works me , I can dissect the valuable from the superfluous : It´s fun and informative. As a counterbalance I have tried to compare Freeones´rankings to another ranking site , but this endeavour is accompanied by administrative difficulties. I agree with you that the ratings at Freeones accurately reflect a model's popularity. I took a look and noted that the rankings aren't based on votes, so I presume that they are based on searches. That makes sense, and it does make the rankings a bit more objective. The way I answered the question was to say that I'm not influenced by those rankings at all. If a model is ranked in the Top 10 who is not a type I usually follow, then her being in the Top 10 won't change that. If a model I like is #10,000, that won't affect my interest in her. But I can see how those rankings can give some useful information - it tracks overall popularity and that's a good indicator of who is, well, popular. When it comes to being influenced in any way, I'm more influenced by ADT threads than anything else. You particularly do great work in creating threads for new models. I always scan those and when it's a model who fits what I like, I'll usually bookmark the thread and keep an eye on it. I'll also search her out on Freeones and Indexxx for a listing of sites where she has scenes. The bottom line for me being influenced is that you ADT generally, and you particularly, play a much bigger role than any other source.
