First of all before anyone has a conniption fit I'm not trying to bash AVN in any way shape or form. I read the publication every month and enjoy much of what I see in the magazine. There's no doubt that many of us here at ADT make the yearly Vegas trip to enjoy a week-long extravaganza of porn, partying and making connections that might not otherwise be possible without 'em.

However I find myself wondering whenever I hear (mostly negative) talk about the actual award show and how the awards show is conducted.

What about the monthly "Top" lists featured in every issue? Do "brick and mortar" stores actually stock their shelves accordingly and if so have they seen a boost in revenue?

From the average porn fan to the hardcore connoisseur... Do you use AVN to help you make decisions on future purchases/rentals?

For porn stars and industry professionals... Do you think you're represented accurately?

Forgive me if I'm stirring up a shitstorm.

It's a reference point for certain things. No influence on my viewing habits. I don't have a real particular opinion good or bad. Now, before ADT was around, I probably relied on AVN a lot more ... And if you went back 10-12 years, even more than that.

I don't think I've looked at an issue of AVN in 4 or 5 years. (Even when they were sending AVNOnline to us for free.)

Besides ADT, I get industry news from Xbiz, gossip from Luke Ford and events from The Floating World (most of which run on our site too.)

The adult business is changing fast and I think AVN has unfortunately been slow to adapt. At one point they were the focal point of the industry. No so much these days.

As for purchasing decisions based on what's covered in the magazine: I assume it happens quite frequently. Very few brick and mortar retailers have buyers that really know the product well. Many of them take whatever their distributor ships them every month. Those that have buyers that know the product and know the market might refer to AVN but I doubt they use it as a basis for purchasing decisions.

A good, detailed review in AVN will help a studio sell product. Movies that win AVN Awards will see higher sales too. How much? I have no idea. I just know that it's been discussed here in the past by some studio reps.

It might help them if their webssite would load faster. I have a cable connection and most days I just give up.

AVN seems to be more geared towards the Bigger studios like Vivid and Wicked. They get all the pub.

I've been hearing again and again how "irrelevant" AVN is since porn became a hobby of mine. They're still around. They may not be relevant to most of the people that frequent this site, but trust me - they are still a major "mover and shaker" in the porn industry.

I think brick and mortar shops use it to see which titles in certain genres are doing well.

Helps them to make better purchasing decisions.

The items they see on the charts are less of a risk to put on the shelves than other stuff, is the thinking.Depending on location of the store and who your clientèle is ....that line of thinking makes business sense.

If you have longtime fans as majority of your customer base...avn charts are not gonna help you.

It's kind of like Consumer Reports...good info, but not considered to be the holy grail. especially seeing as though some of the stuff they rate very high is utter trash to me.

Look at their advertising rates. Clearly the companies spending thousands monthly put a lot of value in AVN.

To those companies - ADT is CHEAP! :)

I don't read AVN the mag and can't get to the website at home (we have satellite.) At work I'm generally working. So I pretty much never look at it.

None.

I've never seen an issue of their magazine and don't think I would ever want to.

I run an adult "brick and mortar" store and I've been noticing now more than ever out of the 5 1/2 years I've been workin that customers are getting more interested in AVN. My store in particular does stock our shelves accordingly to AVN because of our ties to Paul. But I feel that the mag at one time gave great info and on point info until Mckenzie Lee won best new starlet at last years awards show...then I began to question it abit. It seems like its not about the amount of movies a gal does or if they are even good it's about the size of the advertisements the production companies buy. So I've lost alittle faith in it.
