Ok, I've never had much success with women. Mind you, I've only known one or two and even those I didn't know very well. If I'm at a public swimming pool and I want to start a conversation with one of them, how can I do that without a) sounding like a complete tosser b) without sounding creepy or weird? What can I say to sound natural? I'm fine once I start talking to someone but it's getting there that I have problems with. Any suggestions? Cheers.

If you haven't got anything intelligent to say, please don't say anything.

^ Maybe that is what Joey was saying. ;)
Ryan, I don't think that a swimming pool is the right place to meet a girl(friend). I would rather talk with a stranger when I'm fully dressed and not when I simply know that he talks to me because I have these DD knockers in my bikini.
Can't you join a group of people who have the same interests then you? And then you can start talking about the mutual theme in a not so awkward situation. If a woman is interested, she will come back to you for further talk. Maybe you can become a good Basketball-teamplayer, or visit courses in your local college. Learn a language, collect vinyl-longplayers, whatever makes you socialize in general is good. Avoid "flirt places" when you feel under pressure to come up with a cool line.

be yourself.
what janet said is a good start; having something obvious in common is the best way, as it fills the gap of "what to say, what to sayyyy??".
You could chat about her. If i know one thing about women, they dont like a man to talk about himself much, at least when in the dating stages.
However, that can be a double-edged sword; asking her "how she does her hair coz its amazing" will probably put you in the dreaded & unescapable "friend zone".
failing that, drunken women in nightclubs are great for meaningful conversation.

Is she reading? Look at the cover. What genre is it? Romance? Horror? Suspense? Non-fiction? These are not only clues to her personality, but opportunities:
"Hi."
You may get a smile or nod, you may not. Don't freak. Be polite.
"May I ask you something?"
This is your one chance. Don't blow it! No pressure. No, really. Next:
"I was at the book store the other day and saw some other books by (or about) -- " whomever, whatever. "Can you recommend anything?"
There you are. You're welcome.
Or --
"Nice tits. Wanna fuck?"
I can't help you not sound creepy and weird, though, because I happen to be creepy and weird. Take some acting classes, that might help.

It may also end here. It's OK. Move on. Don't push it or word will get around. Chicks have a secret grapevine we dudes don't know about and trust me - you will be labeled like America's Most Wanted.
You may say to yourself "why listen to this married putz?"
Because I still practice. I flirt. I read body language and eye contact and I can still give a woman the flutters if I turn the charm up to eleven.
So listen up!

I've tried these so-called dating agencies and they're no good. All the singles clubs in the area are for over 30's, which automatically puts me out since I'm only 25. Nearly all my friends have left the area and so I only go out once a week with one of my friends, since he's very busy.
But I don't agree with you when you say that the guy would only want to talk to you in a swimming pool because of the way you look in a bikini. Likewise, you could say that he's only interested in talking to you when your fully clothed because he's busy staring at your ass through tight jeans or tits via a low-cut dress. Let's face it, the first thing a person looks at is your physical appearance; that's just an evolutionary instinct, whether you're a male or female.
Funnily enough, I am studying part-time at college at the moment. Now, while there are only 4 males in the class (including me), all the women are either much older, married or single with kid(s) So, no good there, either.
Obviously I like swimming very much but there are only leisure clubs in the area (like the one I go to) not social groups where all the members enjoy swimming. I like history but realistically, how many girls out there are interested in history? From my own experiences, not many. It's not the sort of subject that most girls find interesting. Besides, I don't know of any 'history' clubs in the area.
What I have suggested to my friend is that next week we go out and try and find a pub where there are quite a few girls. Wait there for a while and see if we get any positive indications from them. If so, just go over to their table and ask them if they want to join us? What do you think? The only two things they can say is either 'yes' or 'no' Naturally, there will be occasions when they'll say 'no' but that's just a fact of life.

Good post, hehehe. Thing is, they don't read in the swimming pool. Or by the side of it, either. Another problem is that while I like reading, I only read historical, non-fiction books. Not a girl's favourite, unfortunately.

Ryan, u can have my freshly exed missus; she's a masters in history.
cobalt60 - "Nice tits; wanna fuck?"
you'd be surprised how ofter that works.
one night i decided to see if it would, as i was walking through the club, and a secretary-like chick passed the other way, i smiled, said "hi.. how are you fixed for a ride?", and she kept walking, as did i.
a minute later she came back to me and said "thats a great chat up line". It worked, didn't it??
by the way, my reply to her was "fuck off, you had your chance a minute ago"
Hoo-haw, now THATS funny.

I like the idea of you going out with a friend and look what the night has to offer, that sounds like a good start.
Now I don't know you and how you come across, but sometimes I've met guys who were rather desperate to make contact. As you know, there is a big difference between "open for meeting someone" and "desperately trying to get laid" . And your target gets the difference at once, which reduces your chances to someone equaly desperate or someone who just does not care. And when you push, you get rejected, nothing you need for your ego.
Finally...
Ehem, I don't know how to put this eloquently and we are on a porn board after all, so... I would respectfully advice you to consider jacking off before you go out, that takes the edge off it.

Basically....you will make a fool out of yourself unless she likes you. There's just no way around it. If you want her, you have to try to talk to her. If she likes you, she'll talk back. If she doesn't, she'll ignore you or give you a polite yawn. That's your lot in life as a male. We're supposed to get used to being slammed.
It's not an accident that there are few public places where you feel comfortable talking to women you don't already know. People say bars are bad places to meet women but you don't really have much choice. If you approach them anywhere where they're not expecting it, they're gonna think you're weird, desperate, creepy or any combination of the above. At least at a bar, you know she's probably there for the same reason you are. A swimming pool just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen if you already don't have the greatest confidence or self esteem.

Well, my friend thought that my idea was abit 'forced' so he wasn't keen on it. He'll apparently come up with an idea for next week, though. I know what you mean when you say there's a difference between making contact and acting desperate. Of course, I wasn't planning on marching through the doors and immediately going over to the first group of girls and saying "Fancy a fuck, darlins'?" The important thing is to get positive vibes from them first, then initiate a friendly greeting. After all, that's how people meet.
As for your last point, do you say that from personal experience, Janet? On a serious note, I like to jack off in the evenings, though. It's abit of a ritual and since we're meeting up at 7pm, there won't be time. It really wouldn't make a difference to me, though. I've just received John Thompson's "Sperma Brutal" and "Ich Schwimm in Pisse & Sperma" (I didn't even know they arrived today until this evening!) so that will be some nice eye candy ;) I'll feel much better after a viewing.....

Good points, Random. You also think a swimming pool isn't the best place to meet someone? Best just to stick to meeting places like pubs and cafes?

Lines don't work, otherwise every guy would be saying exactly the same thing.
They only work if you can say them with confidence and/or the humor of how bs it is.
So you decided the woman at the swimming pool is interesting to you? Just say that you've seen her there before and wanted to say hi. She'll let you know pretty fast if you should leave or not.
If she is making nice conversation and there are gratuitous mentions of a boyfriend/SO, it isn't accidental.

RandomPrecision is right, you will sound like an idiot (in your ears) until you get used to this.
Faint heart never won fair lady.
You never get good at talking to people until you talk to people until you are good at it. So, no embarrasment and your hand or risk some ego and perhaps get a date?

Well, I'm certainly no expert on women. However, I do think places like swimming pools wouldn't be the ideal place to try and meet women if you're feeling kind of awkward and shy and just getting started. I'd say that, in general, it takes a lot more skill and finesse to get a date in a place like that. Just because not only does the approach have to be right - But you also have to know who wants to be approached and who doesn't. That little obstacle is largely out of the way in a place like a bar.
The worst thing in the world to do would be to beat yourself up if you get rejected. No matter where you choose to try and meet someone, don't let rejection get you down. It happens to everybody who plays the game. And many have been playing the game for many years. You can expect more rejections until you learn how to play the game and what the general rules are.

Rejection is just a fact of life. That's absolutely no problem for me. Just move onto the next one.

Well, I didn't listen to any of you guys who said that a swimming pool isn't the best place to meet a girl, hehe. There was a nice Czech girl and her friend who were giving me positive indications last week and so today I started chatting to her without any problems. She looked interested and said 'see you next week' when she left, which is a good sign.
So, there you have it. Perhaps it's not such a bad place to find a girl after all. The only downside is that she has been living in England for 4 years and she said she'll be going back to Czech Republic in August for good.

Here's a fine chance for her to go home with a good taste of England in her mouth.

I hope your "follow-thru" on the course (assuming golf) is better than your love-life. Nice priorities.
